Over view The WI-Client is intended to conne ct devices with ethernet or serial interface s to a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) corresponding to the 802.11 a/b/ g standard. The WI-Client co nnects over the ethernet interfac e all devices in its LAN segment wi th a LAN that is accessibl e over WL AN.
The ethernet port has a RJ45 plu g. Because of t he auto MDI functio nality the WI-Client ca n be attached to a HUB or the LAN port of a comp uter with standard pat ch cables. The WI-Cl ient recognizes the cable polarity and automatically con nects the right signal lines.

First T ime Setup To set up the WI-Clien t it has to be connecte d with a patch cabl e to the ethe rnet inter face of a computer. Because of the auto MDI/M DIX capability, you can use a straight or crossover patch cable. After applying power, the green “Li nk LED“ on the RJ45 conn ector shines when a link is dete cted.

Wireless page Configuring the WLAN interface The WLAN radio can be switch off or here. Wireless mode Infras tructur e = Connect to AP Ad hoc = peer to peer connect ion SSID, Service Set Identifier . Name of the WLAN network. This name must be the same as the access points SSID Transmission rate .
Security page Setting up the security options If the user selects the 802.1x aut hentication the PS K or the WEP-Keys don’t have to be define d because the WI-Clie nt and the Radius-Ser ver wi ll dete rmine thes e parame ters automatic ally.
Admin page Setting up administration rights a nd configure basic features, upd ate firmware Wi-Client Option to block the bridgin g funktion of th e Wi-Clie nt. This could be useful when the Wi -Client only works as a ser ial client adapter . The configurat ion via LAN-Int erface is not blocked with this option.
Advanced page The advanced page offers more detailed opt ions to define the behavi or of the WI-Client in the WLAN environment. Cloning The cloning parameter d efines the MAC address of the WI -Client’s radio. Usually the WI-Client le aves the MAC address at the manufactu rers value.
Roaming Roaming is the term for autom atically changing to anothe r access point when the WI-Client recognizes a decreasing RF sign al level when leaving the cov ered area of the current acce ss point and a better level with anot her A P av aila ble.

Serial interface setup The WI-Client can have one or t wo serial interfaces, depending on the options. Each interface is configured on its own WE B page.

“Keep alive“ settings A TCP/IP conne ction remains open a fter being est ablished unti l one of the communicating devi ces closes the connection. If the physi cal connection between the WI -Clien t and the other dev ice is interrup ted with out closing the TCP/IP connection, there is a possibility that the WI-Client is not able to reconnect.
6) 3964R : This is a special protocol wh ich is commonly used for communicatio n with SPS (programmable control systems). This protoc ol uses special characters and event s to signal when it is ready to tran smit and receive. Descri ptions of this protocol are available in l iterature.
