6 G ETTING S T AR TED Make sure your package includes the items shown here: M ODULAR J ACK R EQUIREMENTS Y ou need an RJ11C or RJ14C type modular jack, which is the most common type of phone jack and might look like the one pictured here. If you don’ t have a modular jack, call your local phone company to find out how to get one installed.
7 I NST ALLA TION O PTIONS This unit can be used from a freestanding position on a flat surface or while mounted on the wall. Grooves are provided on the back of the unit and desk adapter to help position the telephone and wall adapter cords.
8 D ESKTOP I NST ALLA TION O PTION 1 1. Feed one end each of the wall adapter and telephone cords through the opening on the back of the base plate. 2. Connect the wall adapter cord to the DC 9V jack. 3. Connect the cord from the telephone to the corresponding jack.
9 W ALL I NST ALLA TION O PTION 1 1. Connect the wall adapter to the DC 9V cord. Giving the cord a little slack, loop it over the telephone jacks and press it into the “POWER LINE” groove provided on the right. 2. Connect the cord from the telephone to the corresponding jack.

13 ANSWER ON/OFF ADVANCED SETTINGS P ROGRAMMING THE S ETTINGS There are five features under the Settings menu. T o access these features: 1. Press SETTINGS . 2. Use SCROLL UP and DOWN to choose the option you want. 3. Press SELECT to accept that feature.
14 There is no maximum time for greetings. If you decide to record special greetings for programmed telephone numbers, use greetings 2-6. Since the unit will default to Greeting 1 for all non-programmed callers, it is best to record a general announcement for this greeting.
15 Press SELECT to accept your choice. TONE Y ou can select 1 of 4 options available with this feature. Press SELECT to accept your choice. If you select No T one/Silence, ther e will be no distinguishing beep for any caller . If you select Distinct T one 1, the unit will insert one beep periodically .

18 D IGITAL M ESSAGING F UNCTIONS When the answerer is on, the green ANSWER ON will be lit. When the unit receives a call, the display will light and remain lit until the calls are retrieved. This unit is supplied with 8 greetings. Six have default greetings that can be recorded over .

20 M EMORY F ULL When the memory is full, the message light will flash rapidly and the display will show “ Msg. Memory Full .” The unit will answer all calls on the 11th ring and announce that memory is full, but no message will be taken. The unit will prompt the caller for a security code, but if none is entered it will disconnect the line.
21 Using the security code you have set, you can access your messages and change your settings from a remote location. 1. Dial your phone number . 2. Press any key to bypass your greeting. 3. Enter your security code after the prompt. There are three different remote menus, grouped by their functions.

23 C ALLER ID F UNCTIONS This unit is capable of storing up to 99 caller ID entries, complete with day , date and time of call. Caller ID information is retrieved between the first and second ring. If a call is answered before the information has a chance to register , no entr y can be made into the unit’ s memor y .
24 REJECT CALL DO NOT DISTURB VIP or programmed entries are denoted with a “*” by the entry . This tag allows you to attach certain custom settings to the entry for future activity . TO PROGRAM AN ID : 1. Press PROGRAM CID . 2. Use SCROLL UP and DOWN to find the entry you want.
25 ST ANDARD SETTING If you select Standard Setting, the unit automatically programs the number with the same settings as those for general callers. Choosing this option with a VIP tag ensures that the number will be kept as a VIP number and will not be bumped from the unit’ s memory when the total number of calls exceeds 99.
26 This will bring up a confirmation display to erase the old unprogrammed IDs only . VIP/ programmed numbers will remain in memory . Use REVIEW and SKIP to select one of the three options. Selecting No will bring up the next entry . Selecting Y es will delete the ID and then bring up the next old, non-programmed, non-VIP entry .
27 T ROUBLESHOOTING T IPS Doesn't answer or messages are incomplete • Caller spoke too softly . • Make sure answerer is on. • Memory is full; erase some messages. • Caller left a message longer than the time limit allowed. • An extension phone was picked up.
28 G ENERAL P RODUCT C ARE T o keep your unit working and looking good, follow these guidelines: • A void putting the unit near heating appliances and devices that generate electrical noise (for example, motors or fluorescent lamps). • DO NOT expose to direct sunlight or moisture.
