7 PREP ARATION SELECTI NG A LOCATION You can place the phone on a des k t op or table, mount it on a standard wall plate, or mount it direct ly on t he wal l.
8 INSTALLING THE PHONE Placi ng the Base o n a Desk T op 1. Remove the moun ting bracket by holding in both tabs an d g ently pull- ing out the wide end of the bracket. 2. Plug one e nd of the supplied long modular cord in to the telephone jack on the back of the b ase.
9 7. Plug the adapter into a standard AC outle t. The T AD-73 2 beeps and 00 appears . 8. Raise the b ase’ s antenna to a v erti- cal p os it io n . Moun ting th e Bas e on a W all Pl ate 1. Remove t he mount ing bracket by holding in b oth tabs and gently pull- ing out the wide end of t he bracket.
10 5. R oute the end of the modular cord through the hole in the bracket, and insert the tabs on the narrow e nd of the bracket into the inner pair of slots near t he top of the b ase as shown. 6. Snap the tabs at the wide end of the bracket into place.
11 1 . Drill tw o holes 3 15 / 16 inches ( 100 mm) apart. Then thread a screw int o each hol e, letting t he heads ex- tend abo ut 3 / 16 inch (5 mm) from the wall . 2. Remove t he mount ing bracket by holding in b oth tabs and gently pull- ing out the wide end of t he bracket.
12 7. Align the keyhole slots with the mounting sc r e ws and slide the base downward to secure i t. 8. Plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet. The T A D-732 beeps and 00 appears . 9. Plug the e nd of the m odular cord into a modul ar phone line jack.

15 T URNING THE RINGERS OFF OR ON To turn of f the ringers on the base, set RINGER on the back of the b ase to OFF . To turn off the ringer on the handset, set RINGER on t he left side of the handset to OFF . You can still ma ke or receive calls using t his ph one, and telephon es on the same l ine still ring w hen there i s an in- coming call.
16 W ith the Hand set 1. Press REMOTE . The REMOTE indi- cat or light s. 2. Press CHANGE ( ) then CLOCK (8) . The T AD announces the currently set day. 3. T o chan ge the day , repe atedly press SKIP (6) to m ove forward o r REPEA T (4) to m ove backward.
17 T E LEP HONE OPERATI ON MAKING AND RECEIVING A CALL To make a call, lift the handset and press TA L K . When you hear the dial tone, dial the desired p hone number or m emory numbe r (see “Memory Dialing ” on Page 19). To answ er a call if the handset is on the base , simply lift the ha ndset and begin your convers ation.
18 USING REDIAL You can quickly redi al the last num ber di- aled. Simply l ift the ha ndset and press TA L K . When you hear the dial tone, press REDIAL. Notes: • The T AD’s r edial memory stor es up to 32 digit s, so you can redial long- distance as well as local numbers.
19 USING T ONE SERVICES ON A PULSE LINE Some s pecial services, such as bank-by- phone, require tone signa ls. If you have pulse se rvice, you can still use these specia l tone services by foll o wing t hese steps. 1. Be sure T/P is se t to P . 2. Lift the handset and press TA L K .
20 Storin g a Number in Memory 1. Press MEM on the ha ndset. T he T ALK indicat or flashes. 2. Enter the number and a ny tone or pause entries (see “ Using T one S er- vices on a Pulse Line” on P age 19 and “ Entering a Pause” on Page 20). Notes: • Each t one or pause en try uses one digit of memory .
21 T esting S tored Emer gency Numbe rs If yo u store an e mergency service’s numbe r (police department, fire depart- ment , ambulance) a nd you choo se to test th e stored n umber, ma ke the tes t call during the late ev ening or early mornin g hours to avoid peak demand periods .
22 Insert a flat-blade s crewdriver into either side of the b elt clip, then p ull off it. To repla ce the belt clip, insert e ither tab of the bel t clip into one slot of the hand- set, then snap th e other tab into other slot of t he hand set. 43-7 32.
23 T AD OPERATION SETTI N G THE T AD TO ANSWER CALLS The TAD-73 2 is ready to ans wer and record calls with the p rerecorded o utgo- ing m essage as s oon as y ou co nnect it to AC power. To record your own outgo- ing m ess age, s ee “Recordin g a n O utgo- ing M essage.
24 • If the T AD’ s memo ry i s fu l l ( FL f lash- es) you must delete some mess ag- es before you can record a new outgoing message. Using the Handset 1. Press REMOTE . The REMOTE indi- cator li g hts and –– ap pears on the base. 2. Press CHANGE () then ANNC (0 ) .
25 USING T HE ANNOUNCE- ONLY F EATURE Your T AD-732 is preset to play an out- going message and record a c aller’s mess age. However, you can also set it to play an outgoing mess age but not let callers le ave a mes sage. To turn o n the announce-onl y feature, hold down bot h M- BOX 1 and M-BOX 2 for abou t 2 seconds.
26 RECORDING IN COM ING MESSAGES Aft er the TAD ans wers a ca ll, t he calle r can select a mailbox by entering # then 1, or # then 2 af ter the outgoing mes- sage plays over within 6 secon ds. If the caller does not select a mailbox, the TAD records the message in the mes- sage center.
27 PLAYING M ESSAGES After a new m essage is recorded, the TAD ’s message c ounter window shows the total numbe r of messages stored, and the REMO TE indicator on the hand- set f lashes. T he message count er dis- play flashes if there are new m e ssages in th e message c enter.
28 DELETI NG MESSAGES To delete the current mess age during playback, pres s DELETE on t he base or handset. Note: You can rep lay a deleted m es- sage by repeatedly pressing REPEA T on the base or handset before the TAD an- nounces “End of message s.
29 REMOTE OPERAT ION W hile you are aw ay from your home or office, you can us e a touch-tone phone or a pulse (rotary) pho ne with a pock et tone dialer to enter your remote opera- tion security code.

31 T ROUBLESHOOTI NG W e do not expe ct you to have any problems with your T AD-732, but if you do, t he fol- lowing suggest ions mi ght help. If y ou still have prob lem s, disconnec t the phone . If ot her phones on the sam e line work prope r ly , the fault is in this phone or its installation.

33 REPLACING THE BATTE RY PACK If you follow the instructions in “ Connect- ing and Chargi ng the Handset Ba ttery Pack” on Page 12, the batt ery pack shou ld last about one year. If the ba ttery pack d oes not hol d a charge for mo r e than 2 hou rs after an overnight ch arge, replace it with a 3.
