About Caller Identification (Caller ID) This product has a Caller ID with Call W aiting feature that wor ks with ser vice from y our local phone ser vice provider . Caller ID with Call W aiting lets you see who’ s calling before y ou answ er the phone, ev en when you’ re on another call.
T able/Desktop Installation ¥ NOTE: Install this telephone aw ay from electr onic equipment, such as personal computers, television sets or micro wa ve o vens. Av oid excessiv e heat, cold, dust or moistur e. 1 Connect the telephone line cord. 2 Connect the power cord.
3 Install the handset battery. Use only A T&T Batter y 2401, SKU# 91077. 4 Charge the handset battery. • Place the handset in the base. • Charge the battery at least 12 hour s. After the fir st charg e, the batter y will charg e in eight hour s.
W all Installation 1 Connect the power cord and telephone line cord to the underside of the corded base, as shown (figure a). 2 Position the mounting bracket as shown (figure b).
Spare Batter y/Power Failure Backup Y ou can buy a spare handset batter y (A T&T Batter y 2401, SKU# 91077, sold separatel y) and keep it charged in the base at all times.
7 Belt Clip Y ou may choose to use the optional belt clip with y our handset. Headset Y ou can use this telephone hands-free when you install any industry standard 2.5 mm headset (purc hased separatel y). For best r esults use an A T&T 2.5 mm headset.
8 Feature Setup Menu Press the softkey under to enter the Feature Setup menu. Use or to choose featur es, then select to save y our choice. ¥ NOTE : If y ou wait mor e than 20 seconds without pr essing a k ey , the handset r eturns to the idle scr een.
9 Clock Mode Y ou can choose to display the time when the phone is idle, or y ou can tur n this f eature off. The default setting is ON . 1 Press . 2 Press until the scr een highlights 3 Press . The screen displa ys 4 Press or . 5 Press to sav e the displayed setting.
10 Sound Select This telephone uses the latest acoustic receiver design, providing you with f our different sound quality settings. During a call, you can adjust the quality of the sound. Pressing repeatedly will cyc le you through four diff erent responses.
11 OK Ringer V olume Adjust the volume of the handset ringer. Setting the volume so that no bars show on the graph turns the ringer off. 1 Press , then until the scr een highlights HANDSET SETTINGS . 2 Press . 3 Press when RINGER VOLUME is highlighted.
12 Ringer Melody The Ringer Melod y sets which ringer y ou hear when you hav e an outside call. The Ringer Melod y default setting is #01 ; ther e are eight Ringer Melod y selections. 1 Press , then until the scr een highlights HANDSET SETTINGS . 2 Press , then until the scr een highlights RINGER MELODY .
13 Vibrate Control When this featur e is on, the handset vibrates when y ou have an incoming call. The default setting is OFF . 1 Press , then until the scr een highlights HANDSET SETTINGS . 2 Press , then until the scr een highlights VIBRATE CONTROL .
14 Low Batt T one Y ou can set the handset to sound a tone when batter y power is lo w , or you can turn the tone of f. Default setting is ON . 1 Press , then until the scr een highlights HANDSET SETTINGS . 2 Press , then until the scr een highlights LOW BATT TONE .
15 Range T one Y ou can set the handset to sound a tone when you are approaching the r ange limit, or you can turn this tone off. The default setting is ON . 1 Press , then until the scr een highlights HANDSET SETTINGS . 2 Press , then until the scr een highlights RANGE TONE .
16 Keypad T one When this featur e is on, each key press makes a sound. The default setting is ON . 1 Press , then until the scr een highlights HANDSET SETTINGS . 2 Press , then until the scr een highlights KEYPAD TONE . 3 Press . The screen displa ys 4 Press or .
17 Set Contrast Y ou can adjust the screen contrast for easy vie wing. 1 Press , then until the scr een highlights HANDSET SETTINGS . 2 Press , then until the scr een highlights CONTRAST . 3 Press . The screen displa ys 4 Press or to increase or decrease contrast.
18 Language Setting Y ou can set each registered handset so the displa y appears in English, Spanish or Frenc h. The default setting is ENGLISH . 1 Press , then until the scr een highlights HANDSET SETTINGS . 2 Press , then until the scr een highlights LANGUAGE .
19 Ringer V olume 1 Make sure the base is not in use. 2 Press V OL + or V OL - to adjust the r ing er volume. Eac h time you press + or - you will hear how loud the setting is.
20 Ringer Melody 1 Make sure the handset is off. 2 Press *** . Y ou will hear a tone and the IN USE light will f lash. 3 Press 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , or 8 to select a ringer melody . Each time you pr ess a ke y , you’ ll hear a sample of the melod y .
21 Dial Mode (T one/Pulse) 1 Make sure the handset is off. 2 Press *** . Y ou will hear a tone and the IN USE light will f lash. 3 Press 0 . If the IN USE light goes on, y ou have selected TONE. If the light goes off , you hav e selected PULSE. Press 0 again to chang e your selection.
22 Make a Call At the Handset 1 Press P , then dial the number — OR — Dial the number , then press P . 2 T o end the call, press O or place the handset in the base. At the Base 1 Press K , then dial the number . 2 T o end the call, press K again. Answer a Call At the Handset 1 Press P to answer a call.
23 V olume Handset Y ou can adjust the volume of what you hear through the handset during a conversation b y pressing + or - on the right side of the handset. Y ou will hear a special tone when you reac h the highest or lowest setting. Speaker During a conversation, press V OL + or V OL - to adjust the base speaker volume.
24 j j j p p p Handset Speakerphone When the handset speakerphone is activated, y ou can use the phone hands-free. Stand the handset on a f lat surface (not in the base) and continue your conversation.
25 TELEPHONE OPERA TION TELEPHONE OPERA TION o o o j j j k k k j j j j j j Redial Handset The last ten phone numbers dialed at the handset are stored in r edial memor y . 1 Press then press or to scroll through the numbers in Redial Memor y . 2 Press P or K to dial the highlighted number .
26 Flash/Call W aiting If you subscribe to Call W aiting service with your local telephone ser vice provider , you can ans wer a new incoming call without losing your current call. Handset 1 Press P / F to connect to the new call when you receiv e a call-waiting signal.
27 TELEPHONE OPERA TION TELEPHONE OPERA TION Mute Handset 1 During a telephone conversation, mute the handset microphone by pressing . The other party will be unable to hear anything on y our end. The screen displays 2 T o return to two-wa y conversation, press again.
28 Hold Handset ¥ NOTE: When a call is on hold, the scr een displays CALL ON HOLD . If the c lock f eature is on, this message will be displa yed f or five seconds, then r eturn to the clock display with H on top of the scr een. After fiv e minutes, the handset will ring to remind y ou there’ s a call on hold.
29 TELEPHONE OPERA TION TELEPHONE OPERA TION T emporar y T one Dialing If you hav e dial pulse (rotar y) ser vice, y ou can chang e from dial pulse to touch tone dialing during a call. 1 Make the call, and wait until it is connected. 2 Press t . K e ys pressed after this send touch tone signals.
30 DISPLA Y SCREEN MESSAGES SCREEN DISPLA YS: WHEN: INCOMING OUTSIDE CALL Y ou have an incoming phone call (without Caller ID). INTERCOM FROM Y ou have an intercom call from [ PARTY [PARTY NAME] NAME ], f or example HANDSET 2 . Once an intercom call is underwa y , the handsets will show the icons of the participating parties.
HANDSET ICONS THIS ICON: INDICA TES Line In Use indicator On steady with no number ne xt to it when another phone on this line is in use. On steady with one or mor e numbers next to it , indicating which e xtensions are using the line. For e xample, 12 indicates that Handset 1 and Handset 2 are on an outside call.

33 Intercom Calls If you hav e more than one handset (A T&T 5800, purc hased separately) register ed with your 5830 base, you can make inter com calls between handsets. From Base to All Handsets 1 Press I on the base. 2 All handsets will ring. From Base to Selected Handset 1 Press I on the base.
34 Answering Intercom At handset , press P . At base , automatically ans wered. End Intercom At handset , press O . At base , press K . Answer an Incoming Call While on an Intercom Call If an incoming call is received while y ou are using the intercom, you will hear a beep and the screen will display call inf ormation as usual for 15 seconds.
35 Blind Call T ransfer If you hav e installed additional A T&T 5800 handsets (purc hased separately) with your 5830 telephone, you can transf er a call from one handset to another . From the Handset 1 Press , then use to highlight were y ou want the call transf er red.
36 Conference Calling 1 If one handset is already on a call, you can connect a second handset to the call by pressing P on the second handset — OR — If you are on a call and hav e a second call on hold, press P to add the held call to the confer ence call.
37 PHONE BOOK This telephone can store up to 50 telephone numbers and names. Each number can be up to 32 digits long and each name can be up to 16 c haracters. Store a Number and Name in Phone Book 1 Enter the number you want to stor e. The screen displa ys the number you enter .

42 If you subscribe to Caller ID ser vice with y our local phone ser vice provider , this phone stores all incoming calls (up to 50 at the handset) with valid Caller ID inf or mation in the calls log. Name, number , time and date information can all be stored, if the y are sent with the call.
43 Setup T alking Caller ID When you set up this f eature, the base can announce the name or telephone number of up to 50 callers whose names/numbers are stored in your phone book befor e you answ er the call. Each announcement can be up to three seconds long.

Batter y Life A fully c harged batter y provides an av erage talk time of about eight hours, or standby time of five days. ¥ NOTE: T alk time and standb y time may vary depending on oper ating conditions.
