6 Batter y Informati on New bat ter ie s The battery for a new 9p23 portable handset is not fully charged. The ba ttery should be fully charged prior to the first use of the handset. Bat te ry use and car e A rechargeable battery ha s a long service life, if treated properly .

8 The 9p23 portable handset is delivered with the standard belt clip. If there is a need to replace the belt clip , see instruction s below . Press these keys to perform the function indicated by the text in the handset’ s display .
12 Basic Oper ation Figure 5.1 P owe r on Press and hold the blue Off Hook key . An audible tone is heard, and ascom appears on the display . Once the handset is po wered on, the Standby mode display is visible (see Figure 5.1). The System Indicator icon will be steady when the handset is l ocked to the system.
13 Basic Oper ation V oic e Ma il o pti ons When the 9p23 portable handset is p rogrammed to access a Voic e Mail system the option “Conn ect to Voice Mail” is presented (see page 30 for more information). Use the Left Soft key to select Menu press the Left Soft key to select Messages.

17 Mobili ty Server Mobility Server configuratio n i s appl icable when there is a PRI inter face to the PBX. Con firm with the system administrator t hat th e i nstallation supports en- hanced features such as caller line ID and Multiple Line Appearance ( MLA).
18 In Call Menu Opera tion Depending on the system configuration, eith er Standard or Enhanced Digital, control of the I n Call menu fea tures may vary. Based on the current handset system, some In Call Menu Options may not be avai lable. If t he system configuration is for Mobility Server , please refer to p age 19.
19 In Call Menu Opera tion Mob il ity Serve r co nfig ura ti on Mobility Server configuration is applicable when there is a PRI interface to the PBX. The Mobility Server (MS) In Call menu allows users access to features during a call the same way as with the standard system configuration.
20 Con fe ren ce Depending on system configuration, a conference call can be invoked in two ways. Option 1. Pre-conference Used with the EDI interface to Meridian and Avaya PBXs, and with all analog and T1 CAS PBX interfaces. 1. During an active call use the Left Soft key to select Options.
21 Menu Optio ns Use the steps described previously to view and change handset settings in all menus. T o exit any menu or submenu without changing settings use the Right Soft key to choose Back, Cancel or Sa ve. T o change a handset setting within a menu or submenu, use the Left Soft key to Confirm or Save.

Che ck with the system administrator to learn whether the handset is configured for Limited or Full Menu support. For details on Limited Menu Options see the Limited Menu section of this guide.
24 Menu Descr iptions Opt io ns Access and modify messaging settings. Voice Mail No. Configures the access number to connect to any Voice Mail system with dial-up capability .
25 Menu Descr iptions Cal l In fo Mis se d cal ls View a list of Missed calls. The Missed calls icon will appear in the display . The Missed calls display shows an index number identifying the entry (up to 20 entries), the time or date the call was received, and the telephone number of the caller .
