Background T asks www.3ware.com 69 About Initialization For 3ware SA T A RAID controllers, initialize means to put the redundant data on the drives o f redundan t units into a known state so that data can be recovered in the event of a disk driv e failure.
Chapter 6. Main taining Units 70 3ware Serial ATA RAID Controller User Guide for the Power Mac G5 Initialization of RAID 1 and RAID 10 Un its RAID 1 and RAID 10 units do not need to be initialized when they are created to be fault tolerant and are imme diately available for use with full performance when created.
Background T asks www.3ware.com 71 What V erification Does For a RAID 1 or RAID 10 unit, a verify compares the data of one mirror with the other . For RAID 5, a verify calcu lates RAID 5 parity and compares it to what is written on the disk drive. V erification checks each sector on a driv e.
Chapter 6. Main taining Units 72 3ware Serial ATA RAID Controller User Guide for the Power Mac G5 How Errors Are Handled V erification makes use of the same error checking and error repair techniques used during ordinary use of drives configured through 3ware RAID controllers.
