• No child restraint can gu arantee protection from injur y in every situation. Howe ver , proper use of this child restraint reduces the risk of serious injury or death to your child. • F AILURE T O PROPERL Y USE THIS CHILD RESTRAINT increases the risk of serious injury or death in a sharp turn, sudden stop or crash.

**United States F ederal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards hav e dened a new system for installing child r estraints in vehicles. The system is called LA TCH. LA T CH may ONL Y be used IN PLACE of vehicle belt if vehicle is equipped with LA TCH anchor points.

7.1 V ehicle Seat Location Requir ements • Children are saf er when properly restrained in r ear vehicle seating positions. Whenever possible secure the child restraint in the center position of the seat directly behind the front seats.
MANY SEA T BEL T SY STEMS ARE NO T SAFE TO USE WITH THE CHILD RESTRAINT . THE VEHICLE SEA T BEL T MUST BE DESIGNED T O HOLD THE CHILD RESTRAINT TIGHTL Y A T ALL TIMES.
7.4 F or Built-in Harness Only • Lap Belts - Manually adjusted when buckled, the belt is tightened manually by pulling on the free end . • Combina tion Lap/Shoulder Belt with Locking Latch Plate - Once it is buckled, this type of belt has a latch plate that will not allow the lap portion of the belt to loosen.
7.6 UNSAFE V ehicle Belt Sy stems • Lap Belts with Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) This lap belt stays loose and can move until it locks in a crash or sudden stop .
• Passiv e Restraint - Lap Belt with Motorized Shoulder Belt DO NO T use vehicle belts that are attached to the door in any wa y or that move along a track to automatically surround the passenger when the door is closed.
United States F ederal M otor Vehicle Safety Standards ha ve defined a new system for installing child restraints in v ehicles. The system is called LA T CH . LA T CH stands for: L ower AN chors and T ether for CH ildren. LA T CH in the vehicle consists of a t op tether anchor point and two lower anchor points.
NO TE: Some vehicle manufacturers have low er maximum weight ratings for LA TC H anchors, so you must c onsult your vehicle owner’ s manual or call the vehicle manufacturer to confirm the limits on y our vehicle ’ s LA T CH anchors .
8.2 LA T CH Sy stem LA T CH consists of a permanently attached lower anchor belt and a top tether strap . ONL Y use LA T CH in a seating position recommended by v ehicle manufacturer . LA T CH low er vehicle anchor points are defined as 11 inches from the center of one LA T CH anchor to the c enter of another LA T CH anchor .
Y ou must carefully follow the instructions provided by y our vehicle manufacturer , in addition to the information in this manual . Before pr oceeding be sure y ou have r ead and understood, “7.0 Choosing an Appropriate V ehicle S eat Location ” on pages 22-26.
