GB - 5 1. DANGER! TO A VOID SERIOUS INJUR Y O R DEA TH Read Owner/O perator Manual. Keep children and others away from unit while o perating. Never direct discharge toward other people. Thrown objects can cause injury . Remove objects that could be thrown by the blade.
GB - 6 3. W ARNING! Do not operate mower unless guards are in operating position or bagger is attached. Always stand clear of discharge area. Do not opera te mower unless bagger is attached or guards are in operating position. 4. HOT SURF ACES! DO NOT touch parts which are hot from operation.
GB - 7 NEVER operate unit after or during the use of medication, drugs or alcohol. Safe operation requires your complete and unimpaired attention at all times. DO NOT w ear loose clothing or jewelry and tie back hair that may get caught in rot a ting parts .
GB - 8 Know the weight of loads. Limit loads to those you can safely control and the unit can safel y handle. Disengage PTO when att achment is not in use. AL WA YS turn off power to attachment when travelling, crossing driveways, etc. Mow up and down slopes, not across them.
GB - 9 AL WA YS wear safety glasses and protective gear near ba ttery . Use insulated tools. DO NOT TIP battery beyond a 45° angle in any direction. AL WA YS keep batteries out of reach of children.

Unpack Unit - Remove shrink wrap and packaging materials. 2. Remove Unit From Container - O pen Bypass V alves (dum p valves) (See Moving the Unit wit h the Engine Off on page 16).

GB - 12 CONTROLS AND FEATURES See Figure 4 for Controls and Features locations. Safety Interlock Syste m Perform the f ollowing tests to ensure the safety interlock system is working properly . If the unit does not perform as stat ed , contact your Gravely dealer for repairs.
GB - 13 Throttle Lever The throttle lever changes the engine speed. Move the throttle lever to F ast (1) to increase engine speed. Move the lever to Slow (2) to decrease engine speed. Bypass Valve Leve r Pull the lever back to set the pump in n eutral and move the unit with t he engine off.
GB - 14 The alert starts counting down two hour s before the maintenance is due. The meter flashes the word, "Now ," when it reaches the maintenance time. Press and hold the toggle button to reset t he maintenance clock to zero after perfo ming the service.
GB - 15 3. C heck Engine Fuel and Crank case Oil Check and add f uel if required. Check t hat engine crankcase o il is full. Follow Engine Manual Maintenance Schedule. 4. Che ck Tir e Pressur e See Specif ications on page 31 for correct tire pressure.
GB - 16 MOVING THE U NIT WITH THE ENGINE OFF IMPORT ANT : Never tow unit. 1. Shut OFF engine. 2. Place seat in the servic e position (See Serv ice Posit ion on page 18). 3. Pull the right and left bypass levers to the neutral position. 4. Disengage parking brake.
GB - 17 Proper maintenance can prolong the life of unit. The following charts show t he recommended serv ice schedule. More frequent service may be required due to working conditions (heav y loads, high ambient temperatures, dusty conditions, or airborne debris).
GB - 18 Gr ave ly Dealers will provide any service whi ch ma y be required t o keep your unit operating at peak efficiency . Should engine serv ice be required, it can be obt ained from a Gravely Dealer or the en gine manufacturer ’s authorized service cent er .
GB - 19 HYDRAULIC FLUID Check Hydraulic Fluid Level Check the system with the unit cold and parked on a flat, level surface. Then run the unit for about one m inute and recheck the levels. T o Add Hydraul ic Fluid: 1. Rem ove the cap from the expansion tank.
GB - 20 9. Follow the instru ctions in T o Add Hydraulic Fluid: on page 19. Purging t he Hydrauli c System 1. With the unit up to and f acing a wall, jack up the unit so that both drive wheels are off the ground. 2. Disengage the parking brake and put the transaxle bypass levers in the neutral position.
GB - 21 Sharpen the Mower Blades 1. Remove mower b lade from unit. Discard mower blade if: • More than 1/2 in. (1.27 cm) of metal is removed. • Air lift s become eroded. • Blade is bent or bro ken. 2. Sharpen mower blade by removing an equal amount of mat erial from each end of mower blade.
GB - 22 BATTERY Unit comes equipped with a maintenance- free battery that requires no regular maintenance except cleaning the terminals. Remove Battery 1. Shut OFF engine. Engage parking brake. Remove the ignition key . 2. Place seat in the servic e position (See Maintenance Schedule on page 17).
GB - 23 3. Connect positive (+) lead of charger to positive (+) terminal, and negative (–) lead to negative (–) terminal. 4. Charge battery accor ding to charger and battery manufactu rers ’ instructions. 5. Replace battery . See Replace Battery on page 22.
GB - 24 Aligning the Steering Leve rs (Figure 14) 1. Shut OFF engine. Engage parking brake. Remove the ignition key . 2. Place seat in the servic e position (See Serv ice Posit ion on page 18). 3. Loosen brake interlock on the same side as steering lever to be adjusted.
GB - 25 ADJUSTING THE HEIGHT OF THE STEERING LEVER HANDLES The handles have three height positions (Figure 16) . 1. Shut OFF engine. Engage parking brake. Remove the ignition key . 2. Remove the spacer , handle, and eccentric spacer from the steering lever .
GB - 26 PTO BEL T PTO Belt Access 1. Properly stop a nd park unit (See Operation on page 12). 2. Lower the mower . 3. Place seat in most r earward position. 4. Remove belt covers. 5. Place foot boar d in open position (Figure 18). Replacing Mowe r Belt s NOTE: Long mower belt must be removed to remove short mower belt.
GB - 27 Replacing t he Hydro Pump Belt 1. Properly stop a nd park unit (See Operation on page 12). 2. Remove the PTO belt from t he mower clutch sheave (See Replacing Mower Belt s on p age 26). 3. Slowly release the tension on the hydro pump belt idler until all t he tension is removed f rom the spring s.
GB - 28 Push the mower lift pedal forward between cutting height number 4 and number 5 to align the holes in the deck lift shaft and the deck lift cover . Insert the cutting height pin in the holes on the side of the deck lift cover so it passes all the way through the deck lift cover and shaft.
GB - 29 NOTE: Pitching the front of the blades lower than the rear provides a balance between cut quality and the power needed to cut grass. Certain cutting conditions require t he deck to be pitched with t he rear of the blades lower than the front. Heeling the deck this w ay requires more engine power but can provide better cut quality .
GB - 30 SHORT TERM NEVER spray unit with high-pressure water or store unit outdoors. Inspect unit for v isible signs of wear, breakage or damag e. Keep all nuts, bolts and screws properly tightened and know unit is in safe working condition. S tore unit in a cool, d ry protected area.
