1 Introduction The APC Sm art-UPS® RT is a h igh-perf ormance, unint erruptible pow er supply (UPS) that prov ides protection for electron ic equipment from utilit y po wer blackou ts, brownouts, sags and surges.
2 Wiring and Connecting the UPS 5000 VA XLI MO DELS O NLY : H ARDWIRING I NSTRUCTIONS • Wiring must be performe d by a qualif ied electrician. • Install a high magnetic 30/32 A utility circuit br eaker. • Adhere to all national and local electrical codes.

4 B ASIC C ONNE CTORS serial com The serial connector is to be u sed for interf acing with APC Po w erChute software and terminal emulation software. Use only cables appro ved by APC. Any other interface cable will be incompatible with the UPS connector.
5 C ONNECTING E QUIPME NT AND P OWER TO TH E UPS 1. Connect equ ipment to the UPS (cables not included for XLJ/XLT/XLTW m odels). 2. Avoid using exte nsion cords. • 3000 VA XLJ/ XLT/XLI/XL TW and 5000 VA XLJ/ XLT/XLTW models : Using a pow er cord, plug the UPS into a two- pole, thr ee-wire, grounded receptacle only .
6 O PERA TION Load S MART -U PS RT F RONT D ISPLAY Battery Charge Indicator Description Online The Online LED il luminates when th e UPS is drawing utility powe r and performing double con version to supply power to con nected equipment. On Battery The UPS is supplying battery po w er to the connected equi pment.
7 Feature Function Cold Start When there is no utility po wer and the UPS is off, press and hold the button to power up th e UPS and connected equipment.

10 C ONNECTING THE EPO (E MERGENCY P OWER O FF ) O PTION The output pow er can be disabled in an emergen cy b y clos ing a switch connected to the EPO. Adhere to National and local electrical codes wh en wiring the EPO. The EPO switch is intern ally po wered by t he UPS for us e with non-po w ered switch circuit breakers.
11 T ERMI NAL M OD E TO C ONFIGURE UPS P ARAMETE RS 3000 VA m odels: Terminal Mode is a menu driven interface that enables configuration of the UPS by users not wi shing to use P o werChut e ® soft ware or an o ptio nal Ne twork M ana geme nt Car d. Connect the serial cable to th e serial co m con nector on the back of the UPS.

13 • Press 2 and ENTE R to change the Battery Settings. • Type in the number of external battery packs (four batt ery modules per pack ), and press E NTE R. (Num ber of packs: 1 = 1 S URT192XLBP, 2 = 2 SURT192XL BP etc.) • Press 3 and ENTER to accept the changes.
14 M AIN TE N AN C E AN D T RA NSPOR T Replacing the Battery Module This UPS has an easy to replace, h ot-swappable battery module. Replacement is a safe procedure, isolated from electrical hazards. You may leave the UPS and connected equipm ent on during the procedure.
15 R EPLACING B ATTERY MODULES X Y Z [ ] ^ _ Disconnecting the Battery for Transport Alway s DISCONNECT THE B ATTERY(s) befo re ship ping in compliance with U.S. Departm ent of Transportation (DOT) and I ATA regulations. The battery(s) m ay remain in the UPS.
