1 Introduction The APC Sm art-UPS ® RT is a high- performan ce, uninterrupt ible pow er supply (UPS) th at provides protection for electron ic equipment f rom utility power blackouts, brown outs, sags an d surges.

3 B ASIC C ONNE CTORS serial com Power management sof tware and interface kits can be used with the UPS. Use only cables appro ved by APC. 4 C ONNECT THE E XTERNAL B ATTERIES Ba ttery Safe ty Read and adhere to the follow ing warnings when installing or serv icing the external batteries. Failure to observe these warn ings may result in seriou s injury, death or d amage to th e equipment.
5 T HIRD P ARTY B ATTERY S OLUTION Batteries mu st be Sealed L ead-Acid ty pe. Use 50 A, 250 VD C fuses wi th an Interru pt rating of ≥ 20,000 A . Ensure that the extern al batteries are wired prior to connecting the batteries to the UPS.
6 C ONNECT E QUIPMENT AND P OWER TO THE UPS 1. Connect equ ipment to the UPS. 2. 3000 VA models : Using a power cord, plug the UPS into a two-pole, three-w ire, gro unded receptacle only. Avoid using ext ension cords. 3. Turn on all conn ected equipment.
7 O PERA TION Load S MART -UPS RT F RONT D ISPLAY Battery Charge Indicator Description Online The Online LED il luminates when t he UPS is draw ing utility power an d performing double con versi on to supply power to conn ected equipment. On Battery The UPS is supplying battery power to the conn ected equipment.
8 Feature Function Cold Start This is not a normal conditio n. When there is no utility po w er and the UPS is o ff, press and hold the button to power up th e UPS and connected equipment. The UPS will emit two beeps. During the second beep, release the bu tton.

11 C ONNECT THE EPO (E MERGENCY P OWER O FF ) O PTION The output pow er can be disabled in an em ergency by closing a switch conn ected to the EPO. Adhere to national and local electrical codes wh en wiring the EPO. Wiring must be performed by a qualified electrician.
12 T ERMI NAL M OD E TO C ONFIGU RE UPS P ARAMETER S 3000/50 00 VA models: Terminal Mode is a menu driven interface that enables enhanced configuration of the UPS. Connect the serial cable f rom the computer to the serial com conn ector on the back of the UPS.
