2 Safety and Handling Precautions Camera Information Do not take apart or attempt to service the camer a yourself . • Do not expose the camera to moisture, or extreme temper atures. • Allow the camera to warm up when mo ving from cold to warm temper atures.
3 Photography Terms and Definitions Terms Definitions Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB) A simple technique professional photogr aphers use to ensure they properly expose their pictures, especially in challenging lighting situations. When AEB is selected, the camera automatically takes thr ee or more shots with a different exposure f or each frame.
4 Terms Definitions StorageID A device-specific four byte unsigned integer (UINT32) that represents a unique storage area that ma y contain data objects. The most significant sixteen bits of a StorageID represents the Ph ysicalStorageID , while the least significant sixteen bits of a StorageID represents the LogicalStor ageID.

6 Getting Started Attach the Camera Strap T o reduce the risk of dropping the camer a, it is strongly recommended to attach and use the provided camera str ap. Inserting the Batteries Follow these instructions to insert the bat teries into the battery/memory card compartment.
7 Inserting an SD/SDHC Memory Card It is highly recommended that the camera stor age is expanded by inserting a SD or SDHC memory card. These memory cards are av ailable at most consumer store and online locations. Make sure to power off the camer a before proceeding.

10 Camera Buttons Button Description Power Press the Power but ton to turn the power on/off . Stabilizer The stabilizer sets the optimal ISO v alue according to light levels to compensate for camera shake and help r educe motion blur . Press to set stabilizer on/off .

12 Initial Settings When you turn on your camer a for the first time, you will be ask ed to do the initial settings of your camer a. First is the setup of language menu. Specify in which language menus and messages are to be displa yed on the LCD monitor .

19 Changing the LCD Display The type of information displa yed on the LCD monitor can be changed using the button. Press the button repeatedly to change the LCD display f rom one type to another .
20 R ecording Photos, Mo vies and V oices Taking Photos This camera is designed to mak e the experience of taking photos simple and quick. It’s A uto mode feature will optimise the internal settings so that in most situations, it can take photos with ease.
21 Recording Videos This camera is capable of recor ding videos. Since video recording requires significant memory capacity , i t is highly recommended to use SD/SDHC cards with this feature. The a vailable recording time depends on the capacit y of the memory card.
22 Using the Stabilizer Feature The Stabilizer feature is f or Photo taking only . This feature is designed to help reduce the blurring eff ects on photos caused by slight camera mov ement.
23 Digital zoom 1X to 5X Optical zoom 1X to 4X Digital zoom is not av ailable for video recording. • Slightcameramov ementindigitalzoomwillmakeitmoredifculttofocuson • objects/subjects. Use of a tripod can reduce this issue.
24 Slow sync. This would be used to capture a dimly lit background while keeping the f oreground (subject) properly lighted. This flash mode forces the camer a to use a slower shutter speed in combination with the flash. The flash fires briefly to light the foreground (subject) while capturing ambient light to r eveal more detail in the background.
25 Pan Focus. This mode is designed to accurately f ocus on a desired subject so that closer and further objects are out of f ocus. For example, the camer a might focus on a nearby tree, and the distant trees and mountains are blurry , as well as an even closer object such as a flower .

29 Using the Record Menu In Photo mode, access to the R ecord menu is done by simply by pressing the Menu button on back of the camera. When the menu is displayed, use the 4- way navigation control and the OK button to mo ve through menu selections and apply the desired settings.
30 The table below shows the av ailable scene mode settings: Icon Item Description Auto The simplest and usually safest way to shoot basic photos. Set tings are automatically adjusted by the camera. Each time the camer a is Powered off then on, this mode will be selected by default.
31 Icon Item Description Night Portr ait This scene mode uses the flash and will leave the shutter open longer to get more ambient light from the background. This will help r educe typical flash pictures where the subject does not have a black/dark backgr ound.
32 Icon Item Description Aperture Priority This mode allows manual adjustment to aperture v alue. The camera automatically selects the shutter speed to match the brightness. Shutter Priority This mode allows manual adjustment to shutter speed. The camer a automatically selects the aperture value to match the brightness.
33 Using Intelligent Scene This feature is most useful f or novice users to capture great images even without basic knowledge of photogr aphy . Simply frame the shot with the help of I ntelligent Scen.
34 Using Sports Mode Ideal to taking a series of sports motion images, such as a golf swing, or try to capture the images of a flying hummingbird/butterfly , be sure to switch the scene mode to sports mode.
35 Frame the subject and press the 4. Shutter button to take the first shot. Press the 5. OK button to continue the second shot. Or , press 6. Menu button to go back the first shot. Repeat step 4 to 6, until the pat tern is filled in images. 7 . Press 8.
36 Using Smile Capture Mode When facing the camer a, especially kids, smiles are always short and hard to seiz e by manual shutter . Smile capture mode detects every smile all the time and performs Automatic F ocus (AF) to capture an image without pressing Shutter button.

39 Using Voice Recording From the Scene menu, select 1. . The V oice Recording screen layout is displa yed on the LCD monitor . Press the 2. Shutter button to start recording.
40 Setting the AEB AAEB stands for Automatic Exposure Br acketing. It takes 3 consecutive photos in the or der of standard exposure, under exposure and overexposur e compensation. To set AEB From the Record menu, select 1. AEB . Use the 2. or keys to go through the selection.
41 Setting Sharpness This function allows you to enhance or soften finer details of your photos. To set Sharpness From the Record menu, select 1. Sharpness . Use the 2. or keys to go through the selection. Press the 3. OK button to save and apply changes.
42 Setting Contrast This function allows you to adjust the contr ast of your photos. To set Contrast From the Record menu, select 1. Contrast . Use the 2.
43 Setting the Date Stamp The date of recording can be printed directly on the still images. This f unction must be activated befor e the image is captured. Once date and time are stamped on a photo, they can no longer be edi ted or deleted. Limitations of Date Stamp functions are as follows: Av ailable for Photos only .
44 Recording Videos Record videos with the camer a, the available recording time depends on the capacity of the memory car d. Videos can be recorded until the maximum memory capacity has been reached. Howev er the length of a single video may be limited (the limitation depends on the camera model).
45 Settings of Recording Videos Press Function button to enable video setting menu bef ore recording a video. Video Size The Video Size function appears only in Video mode.
46 White Balance, Metering, Color Mode T o set above set tings, please refer to “ Using the Function Menu ” on page 25. Pre-record Catch the first three seconds of action that may would hav e potentially missed. Once enable this function, the camer a starts recording movie automatically befor e pressing Shutter button.
47 Viewing Thumbnails This feature will display 9-thumbnail images or by calendar mode on the L CD monitor at the same time. Searching numerous of images is much easier then single view navigation. To set 9-images mode Set the camera to Playback mode 1.
48 Thumbnail icons: Thumbnails images may contain icons. These icons indicate the type of file or r ecording: Icon Item Description V oice Memo Indicates that a voice memo is attached to the image. Movie Indicates a recorded movie. The image displa yed is the first frame of the movie clip.
49 During playback, use the 5. Zoom buttons to control volume. Press the button to increase volume/Press the button to decrease volume. Press the 6. k ey to pause playback. Press the key again to resume. When paused, the play info will remain on screen except .
50 Playing Voice Memo V oice memo is separately recorded and attached to a captured image. See " Voice Memo " on page 56 on how to record voice memo. Set the camera to Playback mode 1. . Use the navigation controls to scroll through the sa ved images.
51 Press the 7 . OK button to delete. The next image is displayed on the L CD monitor . T o delete another file, use the 8. or keys to scroll through the images/videos/audio clips. Then, repeat steps 5 to 7 . T o close the Delete function and go back to the single na vigation mode, select Cancel.
52 To change slideshow settings: From the Slideshow menu, use the 1. or keys to move through the selections. Select Interval set ting. Press the 2. or keys to adjust. Choose among the av ailable interval settings: 1 sec. , 3 sec. , 5 sec. , and 10 sec.
53 To delete attached voice memo: Set the camera to Playback mode 1. . View images/videos/audio clips in Single navigation mode. 2. Use the 3. or keys to scroll until the desired image with voice memo is displayed on the screen. Press 4. Menu button to launch the Playback Menu.
54 Protect Set the data to read-only to prevent images from being er ased by mistake. A protected file has a lock icon when viewed on Playback mode. To protect les: From the Playback menu, select 1. Protect . The Protect submenu is displayed on the L CD monitor .
55 To unlock all les: Select 1. Unlock all in the Protect submenu. A confirmation message appears. Select 2. Yes . Press the 3. OK button to unlock all protected files. Red-eye Correction The Red-eye Corr ection function is used to reduce red eye in captur ed images.
56 Time left (n seconds) for recording. When recording a voice memo to an image with an existing v oice memo, the old recording file would be replaced by the new one. Color Mode The Color Mode function lets you adjust edit still images to apply diff erent colors or tones for a more artistic eff ect.
57 The succeeding table shows the av ailable settings. Icon Item Description Normal No effect is added to the image. Sepia I mage is saved with a sepia tone. B&W Image is saved in black and whi te. Negative Image appears to be the opposite of the original image.
58 Trim The T rim function allows you to trim an image to another image size. This f unction is only available for still images. To trim an image: Set the camera to Playback mode. 1. Use the 2. or keys to scroll and select an image to trim. Press the 3.
59 Resize Resizes a pr eviously saved image and only resizing to a smaller size is a vailable. To resize an image: Set the camera to Playback mode 1. . Use the 2. or keys to scroll and select an image to resize. Press the 3. Menu button to launch the Playback menu.
60 DPOF DPOF is the abbreviation for Digital Print Order F ormat, which allows you to embed printing information on your memory card. Y ou can select the images to be printed and how many prints to make with the DPOF menu in the camera and insert the memory card to the card compatible printer .
61 PictBridge The PictBridge function allows you to print images captured by y our camera without connecting the camer a to a PC. Print images with a PictBridge compatible printer directly . To activate PictBridge: Connect your camera to a PictBridge compatible printer using the USB cable.
62 Using the Setup Menu Y ou can access the Setup menu whether you are in R ecord or Playback mode. The Setup menu allows to configure general camer a settings. To go to Setup Menu: Press 1. Menu button to launch the Record/Playback Menu. Use the 2. or keys to switch the menu tab to Setup menu.
63 Setting LCD Save Enable the LCD Save f unction to automatical ly decrease the L CD brightness to conserve battery power . When the camera is idle f or 20 seconds, the LCD darkens. Press any but ton to resume to normal brightness. The camera is idle when no but tons are pressed.
64 Setting File Numbering This function allows you to select the method in which to assign file numbers to images. Available settings are: • Series. Assigns number to files in sequence even if the folder is changed. • Reset. Starts from 0001 each time the folder is changed.
65 Setting Memory Kit This utility formats the internal memory (or memory card) and er ases all stored images and data. Available settings are: • Format. Select to format currently used memory . • Copy to Card. Select to copy all files stored in the internal memory to the memory card.
66 Reset All Use this function to reset the camer a to its factory settings. However , the following settings are exceptions and not affected by R eset.
67 Making Connections Connect your camera to: computer , or a printer . Connecting the Camera to a PC Y ou can transfer images, videos and audio fi les to your PC. Connect one end of the USB cable to an av ailable USB port on your computer . 1. Connect the other end of the USB cable to the USB terminal on the camera.

Connect one end of the USB cable to the printer while the other end to USB terminal on the camera.

71 Appendix About Folder and File Names Y our camera automatically creates specific directory of f older in the internal memory cards to organize captured images, videos and audio files. File Naming File names begin with “HPIM” and followed by a 4-digit number that increases in sequence.
72 T roubleshooting Problem Cause and/or Action Camera does not turn on. One or both of the bat teries may be exhausted. Replace the bat teries. Camera turns off automatically . Press any button except the P ower button to power on the camera. LCD turns blank.
