1 The basics NOTE: For basic operating instructions, see the printed Quick Sta rt guide included in the box with your tablet. IMPORTANT: Be fore using the tablet for the first time, connect it to external power, and then charge the battery for at least 15 minutes.
2 Using the Home screen The Home screen p rovides a centra l location wh er e you can access information and email, browse the Web, stream videos, view photos, and ac cess social media websites. NOTE: The appearance of the Home screen may vary. ● Swipe down from the top to display notifications.
3 Using apps and widgets Apps are shortcuts placed on th e Home screen and used to open applicatio ns installed on you r tablet. Widgets are apps with special fu nctionality that disp lays co ntent that is up dated frequently. You can view the updated co ntent without opening the widget.
Using the calendar ● Touch the Calendar icon, and then follow the on-screen in structions. NOTE: When you add a Google a ccount, the email, calendar, and contacts a ssociated with the account are synchroni zed automatically. ● To add the Calendar to the Home screen, touch and hold the Calendar icon until it appears on the Home scree n.
4 Using the cameras Take your own pho to or take screenshots with the front camera. Taking your own photo ● Touch , and then touch . ● To take a photo, touch the rotating camera ic on above the blue circle, an d then touch the blue circle. The photo is saved in the Gallery.
5. Select the number of copies. 6. To select options, to uch the down arrow, and then follow the on-screen instructions. 7. Touch Print . A message is displayed to in dicate the print status. – or – Activate HP ePrint (select models only), wh ich allows you to print di rectly to an HP ePrint-ena bled printer.
5 Connecting to networks You can connect th e tablet to a wireless ne twork, Bluetoot h® devices (select models only), a mobile network (select models only), a Mi racast-compatible wireless display (select models only), or a Windows® computer. Connect to a wireless network Browse the Web, rea d your email, or perfo rm other online act ivities.
Connect to a mobile network (select models only) If a SIM card is not prein stalled, a SIM card can be purchased fro m a mobile carrier. T o insert the SIM card, see the Quick Start guide includ ed with your product. 1. Touch , and then touch . 2. Under WIRELESS & NETWORKS , touch Mobile Networks , and then touch Access Point Names .
Connect to a Windows comput er (select models only) NOTE: USB tethering must be turned off befo re y ou can use USB to transfe r files between your tablet and the co mputer. 1. Connect the micro USB cabl e to your tab let and to a Win dows computer. The USB storage appea rs as a drive on the com puter.
6 Using Settings Use Settings for co nnecting to ne tworks, setting preferences , and finding information abou t your tablet. ● Touch , and then touch .
ACCOUNTS Existing accounts are displayed. ● Add an email accoun t or another typ e of account —Under ACCO UNTS , touch + Add account , and then fol low the on-screen instructions. ● Sync an account — Under ACCOUNTS , touch the name of the accou nt.
7 Securing your tablet To prevent ot hers from access ing the data on your tablet, selec t a screen lock met hod. Set a screen lock 1. Touch , and then touch . 2. Under PERSONAL , touch Security , and then under SCREEN SECURITY , to uch Screen lock . 3.
