TIP: To help prevent ri ps, wrinkles, and curled or bent edges, store all paper fl at in a resealable bag. If th e paper is not stored properl y, extreme chan ges in temperat ure and humidity mig ht result in curled paper that doe s not work well in the HP All-in-One.
4. Insert the stack of pa per into the input tray with the short ed ge forward. Ensure that the side you want to print on face s down. Slid e the stack of paper toward the device until it stops. CAUTION: Make sure that the H P All-in-One is idle and sil ent when you loa d paper into t he input tray.

To load index car ds in the input tray 1. Remove all pa per from t he input tray. 2. Insert th e stack of card s, with the s ide you want to pr int on faci ng down, in to the far- right side of the inp ut tray. Slide th e stack of cards forward unt il it stops.
To load envel opes 1. Remove all paper f rom the input tra y. 2. Insert one or more envelopes into the far-right side of the input tray with the envelope flaps up and on the le ft. Slide the st ack of envelopes forwar d until it stops. TIP: For more help on loading envelo pes, refer to the diagram engra ved in the base of the in put tray.
HP Inkje t labels (for prin ting on ly) 1. Always use lette r or A4 label sheets designed for use with HP inkjet devices (suc h as HP inkjet l abels), and make su re that the labe ls are no more than two ye ars old. Label s on older sheet s might peel off w hen the paper is pul led through the HP All-in-One, causing subsequent pa per jams.
7 Print from your computer The HP All-i n-One can be used wit h any softwa re applicatio n that allow s printing. You can print a range of p rojects, such a s borderless imag es, newsletters, greeting cards, iron-on transfers, and post ers.
6. Click OK to close the Properties dialog box. 7. Click Print or OK to begin printin g. Make the HP All-in-One the default printer You can set the HP All-in-O ne as the default printer to use fr om all softwa re applications.
5. Click the Features tab. 6. In the Resi zing Options area , click the appropriat e paper size from the Size list. The followin g table lists the sug gested paper size setti ngs for the diffe rent types of paper you can load in th e input tray.
View the prin t resolution The printer sof tware displays the print resolution in dots per inch (dpi). The dpi varies according to th e paper type and p rint quality th at you select in the printer softw are. To view the print reso lution 1. Make sure you ha ve paper loa ded in the in put tray.
To change the p age orientation 1. Make sure you have pa per loaded in the input tray. 2. On the F ile menu in your softw are application , click Print . 3. Make sure the HP All -in-One is the sel ected printe r. 4. Click the button t hat opens t he Properties dial og box.
Preview your prin t job You can preview you r print job before sending it to the HP All-in -One. This h elps to prevent wasting paper a nd ink on projects that do not print a s expected. To preview y our print j ob 1. Make sure you ha ve paper loa ded in the in put tray.
Use the Printing Shortcuts ta b for the following print tasks: • General Ev eryday Printin g : Print documents quickly. • Photo Printi ng–Borderl ess : Print to th e top, bottom , and side edge s of 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6 inch) HP Premium Plus Photo Papers with a tear-off tab .
5. In the Printing Shortcuts list, click the printing shortc ut that you want to delete. 6. Click Delete . The print ing shortcut is remo ved from the li st. NOTE: Only the shortcu ts that you have creat ed can be delet ed. The origi nal HP shortcuts cannot be deleted.
6. In the Resi zing Options area , click the appropriat e paper size from the Size list. If a borderle ss image can be prin ted on the specified size, the Borderless check box is enabled. 7. In the Basi c options area, click a paper type in the Pape r Type drop-down li st.
9. In the HP real life tech nologies area, click the Photo fix drop-d own list and select from the following options: • Off: applies no HP real l ife technologi es to the image. • Basic: automatically focuses the image; mode rately adjust s image sharpne ss.
NOTE: If a phot o print cartridge is also instal led, the prin t quality is e nhanced. A photo print cartridge can be p urchased separat ely if it is not i ncluded with t he HP Al l- in-One. To print in Ma ximum dpi mode 1. Make sure you have pa per loaded in the input tray.
7. For binding , do one of the f ollowing: • For bindi ng on the top like a not ebook or calendar, select th e Flip Pages Up check box. This causes the od d and even pag es of your document to print o pposite of each other top-to-bott om.
To print a multiple-pag e document as a booklet 1. Load paper into t he input tray. The paper sh ould be thick enoug h that the ima ges do not show t hrough to the oth er side. 2. On the F ile menu in your softw are application , click Print . 3. Make sure the HP All -in-One is the sel ected printe r.
10. Follow the inst ructions tha t appear on your screen for rel oading the paper to print on the second si de, and then click Contin ue . 11. When the entire document ha s finished printing, fol d the stack of paper in ha lf, so that the first pag e is on top, then stap le the documen t along the crease.
4. Click the button t hat opens t he Properties dial og box. Depending on your software applicati on, this butto n might be cal led Properti es , Options , Printer Setup , Printer , or Pref erences . 5. Click the Features tab. 6. In the Pages per sheet list, click 2 , 4 , 6 , 8 , 9 , or 16 .
7. Click Page Or der in the Layout Opti ons list, and then click Front to Back . NOTE: If you set your do cument to pri nt on both si des of the p age, the Front to back opti on is not available. Your document w ill autom atically print in the correct order.
6. In the Basi c Options area, click the appropriate t ransparency t ype in the Paper Type list. TIP: If you want to make notat ions on the back of the t ransparencies and erase them later withou t scratching the origi nal, click the Ad vanced tab, and select the Mirror Image check box.
Print a poster You can create a post er by printin g a document on mult iple pages. T he HP All-in-O ne prints do tted lines on some pag es to indicate where to trim the pages before tapi ng them together. To print a poster 1. Make sure you ha ve paper loa ded in the in put tray.
7. In the Poster Printing drop-down list, click either 2x 2 (4 sheets) ; 3x3 (9 sheets) ; 4x4 (16 sheets) ; or 5x5 (25 sheets) . This selection tells th e HP All-in-One to enlarge your docum ent so that i t fits on 4, 9 , 16, or 25 pages. If your original docu ment is multipl e pages , each of th ose pages will be printed on 4 , 9, 16, or 25 pages.
To stop a print job from the compu ter ▲ You can cancel most print jo bs from the print queu e. For more info rmation about ho w to do this, see the Windows H elp.
8 Use the copy features The HP All-in-O ne allows yo u to produce high -quality color a nd black-an d-white co pies on a variety of paper type s. You can enlarge o r reduce the size of an orig inal to fit a specific paper size , adjust the copy qua lity, and m ake high-quality copies of photo s, including borderless copi es.
Refer to the fo llowing tabl e to determine wh ich paper type sett ing to choose b ased on the paper loaded in the input t ray. Paper type Control p anel setti ng Copier paper or letterh ead Plain HP .
Set the copy pa per type Copy a two-page black-and-white document You can use the HP All-in -One to copy a single- or multi ple-page document in color or black and white. In this example, th e HP All-in-One is used to copy a two-page black- and-white o riginal.

9 Use the scan features Scanning is the proces s of converting text an d pictures into an el ectronic format for your computer. You can sca n almost anything (photos, magazine article s and text documents) on the HP All- in-One.
you want it, you can open it in anothe r application, sen d it through e-mai l, save it to a file, or print it. To scan to a compute r 1. Place your origina l with the side you wa nt to copy or scan face down on the left front corner of th e glass.
Edit a scanned document You can edit a scann ed document using your Optical Character Recog nition (OCR ) software. Scannin g text using OCR software e nables you to bring the content of magazine articles, books, and ot her printed matte r into your favorite wo rd processor and many ot her applicatio ns as editable text.

10 Maintain the HP All-in-One The HP All- in-One requ ires little mai ntenan ce. Sometimes you mi ght want to clea n the glass and lid backing to remove surface dust and ensure tha t your copies and sca ns remain clear. You w ill also need to rep lace, align, o r clean your prin t cartridges f rom time to time.
Clean the lid backin g Minor debris can accumula te on the white docume nt backing located un derneath the l id of the HP All-in -One. To clean the lid b acking 1.
3. Make sure the test p atterns show a comple te grid and the thick co lor lines are complete. • If more than a few lines in a patt ern are broken, th is might indica te a problem with the nozzles.
Handle the print cartridges Before you replace or cle an a print cartri dge, you should know th e part names a nd how to handle the print cart ridges. 1 Copper-colored contacts 2 Plastic tape with pin.
NOTE: Ink from the ca rtridges is used in the print ing process in a number of different ways, includin g in the ini tialization p rocess, which pre pares the device and cart ridges for printing, a nd in printhead servicing, wh ich keeps prin t nozzles clear and ink flowin g smoothly.
To replace the pr int cartridges 1. Make sure th e HP All-i n-One is on. CAUTION: If the HP All -in-One is off when you o pen the print cart ridge door to access the print cart ridges, the HP All -in-One will no t release the cart ridges for changing.
3. Wait until the print carriage is idle a nd silent, and th en lightly press down o n a print cartridge to release it. If you are replaci ng the tri-color print cartridge, remove t he print cartridg e from the slot on the lef t. If you are rep lacing the bl ack or photo print cartri dge, remove the pri nt cartridge from the slot on the right.
6. Remove the n ew print cartrid ge from its pa ckaging, being careful to to uch only the black plastic. Gent ly remove the pastic tape using the pink p ull tab.
8. Close the print cartridge door. 9. If the print cartri dge alignment shee t prints, load it on the lef t front corner of the glass with the top of the page to the l eft. 10. Press the Scan button. The HP All-in-On e aligns the print cartri dges. Recycle or discard the prin t cartridge alignment sheet.

Installed print cartridge Result Black print cartridge Colors print as grayscale.
NOTE: Your printer m ight be packaged with only a t ri-color print cartridge. F or better results, instal l a black print cartri dge in addition to the tri-color prin t cartridge.
One came wit h a print cartridge protector, you can use an a irtight pla stic contai ner to protect your prin t cartridge. The print cartri dge protector is design ed to keep a print cartridge secure and pre vent it from drying out when it is not bei ng used.

5. Load the pri nt cartridge alig nment sheet print side down on t he left fr ont corner of the glass. 6. Press the Scan button. The HP All-in-One aligns th e print cartridges.
Make sure you have the following materials avai lable: • Dry foam rubber sw abs, lint-free cloth, or any so ft material t hat will not come apart or leave fibe rs.
9. Repeat if nece ssary for the othe r print cartridge. 10. Gently close the pr int cartridge door and plug the p ower cord in to the back of th e HP All-in-On e.

Remove ink from your sk in and clothing Follow these i nstructions to remove ink from yo ur skin and clot hing: Surface Remedy Skin Wash the area with an ab rasive soap. White fabric Wash the fabric in cold water an d use chlorine bleach. Color fabric Wash the fabric in cold water an d use sudsy ammonia.

• Check the co nnection from the HP All-in-O ne to your computer. Veri fy that the U SB cable is securely plug ged into the USB port on the back of the HP All-in-One . Make sure the other e nd of the USB cable is pl ugged into a USB po rt on your comput er.
• Do not use paper tha t is heavily textured. It ca n cause graphics or text to print improperly. • Do not combine different pap er types and paper sizes in the input tray; the entire stack of paper in the input t ray must be the same size and type.
connected the HP Al l-in-One to your compu ter before the so ftware inst allation screen prompts you to do so, you m ust follow these st eps: Troubleshooti ng common setup issues 1. Disconnect th e USB cable from th e computer. 2. Uninstall the sof tware (if you have alre ady installed i t).
• Test the power outlet to make sure it is working. Plug i n an appliance tha t you know works, and see if the appliance has p ower. If not, the n there might be a problem with t he power outlet. • If you plugged the HP All-in-One int o a switched outlet, make sure the switch is on.
For more informa tion on in stalling the so ftware and co nnecting the USB cabl e, see the Setup Guid e that came with t he HP All-in-O ne. The HP All-in-O ne does not prin t Cause: The HP All-in-One and com puter are not comm unicating wit h each other.
• If you are connect ing the HP All-in-One throug h a USB hub, make sure the hub is turned on. If the hub is on, try connect ing directly to your compute r. • Check other printers or scanners. You might need to disco nnect older products from your comp uter.
Solution: Click Details to see what t he specific proble m is, and then correct the problem before a ttempting to insta ll the soft ware. A red X appears o n the USB conne ct prompt Cause: Normally, a green check ap pears indicating that the plug an d play is successful .
Solution: Try to continue wi th the installat ion. If that does not work, sto p and then restart the in stallation, and follow th e directions on the screen. If an erro r occurs, you might need t o uninstall and then re install the software. Do not si mply delete t he HP Al l- in-One applicat ion files from your computer.
Uninstall and reinsta ll the softw are If your installa tion is incomple te, or if you con nected the USB cable to the co mputer before prompted by th e software inst allation screen , you might need t o uninstall and then reinstall the sof tware. Do not simply d elete the HP All-in -One applica tion files from your computer.
To uninstall fr om a Windows computer, method 3 NOTE: Use this method if Uninstall is not availa ble in the Windo ws Start menu. 1. Insert the HP All -in-One CD-ROM in to your computer’s CD-ROM drive and t hen start the Setup program . 2. Disconnec t the HP All-in -One from your comp uter.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 f or the tri-color print cart ridge on the left side. 4. If the problem persist s, print a self-test re port to determine if there is a problem wit h the print cartridges. This report pro vides useful i nformation abo ut your print cartridges, including status informatio n.
To print a self-test report 1. Load lette r or A4 unused p lain white pap er into the in put tray. 2. Press and hold the Cancel butt on and then press the Start Copy Color button. The HP All-i n-One prints a se lf-test repor t, which might indicate the source of the printing problem.
3. Lightly press dow n on the print cartridge t o release it, a nd then pull it toward yo u out of the slot. NOTE: Do not remove both print cartrid ges at the same t ime. Remove and clea n each print cartrid ge one at a time. Do n ot leave a p rint cartridge outside the HP All- in-One for more than 30 minu tes.
To replace the print cartrid ges 1. Make sure the HP All -in-One is on. CAUTION: If the HP All-in-One is off when you open t he print cartridge do or to access the print cartridges, the HP All-i n-One will not rel ease the cartridg es for changing.
3. Wait until the print carriage is i dle and silent, an d then lightly press do wn on a print cartridge t o release it. If you are repl acing the tri- color prin t cartridge, remove the print cartridg e from the slot on the lef t. If you are rep lacing the black or photo print cartridge, remove the print cartridge f rom the slot on the right.
6. Remove the new prin t cartridge from it s packaging, being ca reful to touch only the black plastic. Gent ly remove the pasti c tape using the pink pull tab. 1 Copper-colored contacts 2 Plastic tape with pink pull tab (must be removed before installing) 3 Ink nozzles under tape CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles.
8. Close the pri nt cartridge door. 9. If the print cart ridge align ment sheet prints, load it on the left f ront corner of the glass with th e top of t he page to the lef t. 10. Press the Scan button. The HP All-in-One aligns th e print cartridges. Recycle or discard the print cartridge alignment sheet.
• Do not open the print cartridge door un less necessary. This exposes the print cartridges to air, which reduces the life of the print cartridges. NOTE: If you leave the print cartridg e door open for a long period of t ime, the HP All-in-One will recap the print cartrid ges to protect th em from exposure to air.
• Printouts or copies have vertical stre aks • Paper is not picked up fro m the input tray • Printouts or copies are slanted or skewed Ink is bleedin g or smearin g Cause: The paper type is not suitab le for the HP All -in-One. Solution: Use HP Premi um Papers or any other paper type that is appropriate for the HP All-in-On e.
Solution: Change the paper type setting to mat ch the type of pap er loaded in the input tray. For more information, see: • Set the p aper ty pe for prin ting • Set the copy paper type Cause: The prin t quality or copy set ting on the HP All-in -One is set too low.
Solution: If t he paper you are using is too fibrous, the ink applied by the H P All-in- One might not fully cove r the surface of the pap er. Use HP Premium Papers or any other paper type th at is appropriat e for the HP All-in -One. For more information, see: Informat ion on paper Cause: The copy or print paper type se tting is in correct.

Cause: The wrong type of enve lope is loa ded. Solution: Do not use shiny or embossed enve lopes or envelo pes that have clasps or windows. Borderless printi ng produces unex pected results Cause: Printing a borderless image from a non-H P software a pplication prod uces unexpected results.
Solution: Load paper in the input t ray. For more information, see: Load full -size pape r Cause: The pri nt carriage has stall ed. Solution: Turn the HP All -in-One off , remove any objects that are blocking the print carriage (inc luding a ny packing mate rials), and then turn th e HP All-in-One on again.
the HP All- in-One and plugg ed into a power outl et. Press the On bu tton to turn on t he HP All-in-On e. Cause: The HP All-in-One experienced an error. Solution: Turn t he HP All-in-O ne off, an d then unplug the po wer cord. Plug the power cord back in, and then press the On button to turn on the HP All -in-One.

Solution: If the HP Al l-in-One is performin g another task su ch as copying or scanning, your print jo b will be delayed un til the HP All-in-One comp letes the current task.
Solution: Clear t he paper jam. For more information, see: Clear paper ja ms Cause: The print carriage has st alled. Solution: Turn t he HP All-in-One off , remove any objects tha t are blocking the pri nt carriage (includin g any packing materials), and then turn the HP All-in-One on again.
Make sure the margi n settings for the do cument do not exceed t he printable ar ea of the HP All-in -One. To check your margin settings 1. Preview your print job before send ing it to the H P All-in-One.
Text or graphics are cut off at the edge of the page Cause: The margins are not set correctly i n your software a pplication. Solution: Make su re the margin se ttings for t he document do not exceed the printabl e area of th e HP All-in-On e. To check you r margin settings 1.
Solution: Check the e stimated ink l evels remain ing in the p rint cartridg es. If the print cartridges are lo w or out of ink, you might need t o replace the print cartri dges.
For more information, see: Replace the print cartri dges Ink is spraying th e inside of the HP All-in-O ne when I p rint a photo Cause: The borderless print se ttings requ ire photo paper to be loaded in the input tray. You are using the wr ong paper typ e.
Solution: Check the On light. If it is blinki ng, the HP All-in-One is busy. Cause: The H P All-in-One does no t recognize the paper type. Solution: Do not use the HP All-i n-One to copy onto envelopes or o ther papers the HP All-in-On e does not support .
The printout is b lank Cause: The original is plac ed incorrectly o n the glass. Solution: Place your ori ginal print side down on the left front corner of the glass. Cause: The print cartridges nee d to be cleaned or mig ht be out of ink. Solution: Check the estimated ink levels remain ing in the print cartridges.
Scan troubleshooting Use this section to solve these scan p roblems: • Scan halts • Scan fails • Scan fails because of insu fficient comput er memory • Scanned imag e is blank • Scanned imag.
