1 Welcome Thank you for purcha sing an HP Photosmart A61 0 series printer! This printer makes home phot o printing si mple, convenient, and fun, an d it produ ces high-quality color prints you will be plea sed to share with family and friends.

Front of printer 1 Control panel : Contro l the basic functions of the printer from here. 2 Printer screen : View photos and menus here. The printer screen pops up automatically when you open the output tray. Tilt the screen up to adjust the viewing angle.
Input tray and in side front of printer 1 Input tray : Load paper here. The input tray opens autom atically when you open the output tray. 2 Input tray extension : Pull out to suppo rt paper. 3 Paper-width gu ide : Move to the width of the current paper to position the paper properly.
Indicator li ghts 1 On light : This light, surrounding the Powe r button, is solid green when the printer is on. It is green and flashing when the prin ter is busy, and it is red and flashing when the printer requires attention.
Contro l panel 1 On : Press this button to turn the pr inter on or off. 2 Layout : Press this button to select a print layout. Use the 4-way arrow button to scroll thr ough layout selections. Press OK to select a layout. 3 Printer screen : View photos and menus here.

3 Paper basics Choose and load paper Learn how to cho ose the right pap er for your print job and how to lo ad it into the input tray for printing. Choose the right pa per Use HP Advanced Phot o Paper. It is especi a lly de signed to work w ith the inks in your printer to create beaut iful photos.
For a full list of sup p or ted paper sizes, see Specif ications . To load pa per 1. Open the out put and input trays, and pull ou t the input tray extension . 2. Load up to 20 sheets of p aper with the prin t side or glossy side facin g the front of the printer.
4 Print from a memory card This section describes the ste ps for printing photos that are stor ed on a memory card. This section co ntains the following topics: ● Get photos from a memory card ● N.

To view ph otos nine at a ti me 1. Insert a memory card. 2. Press to view nine photos at a time. 3. Press or to highlight one of the nine photos. 4. Press to change back to viewing one b y one . Select multiple photos If you want to print more t han one photo, or delete a grou p of photos all at once, you need to select t he photos.
3. Use the 4–way a rrow button to sele ct a layout: – Print one ph oto per sheet – Print two ph otos per sheet – Print four photo s per sheet 4. Press OK . The printer may rotate your phot os to fit the layout. Note Borderless printing i s the default.
To print camera-sele cted photos 1. Insert a memory card th at contains camera-sele cted (DPOF) ph otos. 2. Select Yes when the printer asks you whether yo u want to print the camera-selected photos, and t hen press OK .
5 Creative projects Once you have master ed basic photo printi ng, experiment with some of t he other grea t features the pri nter has to offer. Th is section contains the following t opics: ● Print.
Select any pho to ➔ Select one or more photos on a memory card and use the steps below to turn on panoramic mo de. Panoramic mode prints the select ed photos with a 3:1 aspect ratio. To print p anoramic photos 1. Insert a memory card. 2. Press Menu to open the printe r menu .
Note You can also print 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6 in ch) photo sticke rs using HP Self- Adhesive Photo Paper. For thi s project, use the basic print i ng i nstructions as if you were printing standard 10 x 1 5 cm (4 x 6 inch) photo s. Print passport photos To print passp ort photos 1.
To print nine frames fr om a video clip 1. Insert a memory card th at contains a video clip. 2. Press Me nu , select Print Options , and the n select Video action p rints . A preview of all video clips o n the memory card appears. 3. Use the 4–way arrow but ton to scroll to the video cl ip you want to print, and th en press OK to select it.
3. Select Video Enha ncement , and then press OK . 4. Use the 4–w a y arrow bu tton to highlight On , and t hen press OK . Note When you im prove the quality of prin ted video clips using thi s preference , print times may be sl ower than when t his preference is turned of f.
4. Select Add Color Effect , and then press OK . 5. Use the 4–way arrow bu tton to high light the color effect you wan t to use, and the n press OK . The photo appears on th e print e r screen with the select ed color effect appli ed. The effect do es not change your original photo.

6 Print from other devices This printer ca n print photos sto red on several types of devi ces including computers , digital cameras, a nd iPods. Each connection type lets you do different t hings.
Print photos from a Bluetooth device Print from any device wi th Bluetooth wireless te chnology to the printer. Before you begin To print from a Bl uetooth-enabled devi ce, you wil l need the followin.
3. Insert a memory card and select photos to transfer. For inform ation on viewing and selecting photo s, see Select multiple phot os . 4. In the HP Photosmart screen , click Start Using the Device . 5. Select the drive f or the HP Photosmart A610 se ries printer, and the select the location to save photos.

7 Maintain and transport the printer The printer requires very l i tt le maintenance. Fo llow the guidelines in this sectio n to extend the life span of t he printer and printing supp lies, and to ensure that the photos yo u print are always o f the highest quality.
For best print quality, H P recommends th at you install all retail print cartridg es before the date stamped on the box. To prepa re the printer a nd cartridge 1. Make su re the printer is on. 2. Open the prin t cartridge door of the printer. 3. Remove the brigh t pink tape fr om the cartrid ge.
Each time you insta ll or replace a print cart ridge, a message appears on the printer screen asking you to loa d paper so t he printer can align the cartri dge. This ensures high- quality print s. Load photo pape r in the input tray, press OK , and then foll ow the onscreen instruc tions to align t he cartridge.
Note If the cartrid ge or printer has been recently droppe d, you may also see white streaks or missing colors in your prints. Thi s problem is te mporary and clears up within 24 hours.
Align the prin t cartridge The first time you install a print cartridge in the p rinter, the print er aligns it aut omatically. However, if col ors in the printouts are misaligned, or if the alignmen t page does not print correctly when you install a new print ca rtridge, use the following proced ure to align the print cartridge.
5. A message appears on the prin ter screen remindin g you to loa d plain paper. Load HP Advanced Photo Paper so the pri nter can print an al ignment page. 6. Press OK to begin a ligning the print cartridge . When the printer fini shes aligning the cartridge, it pr ints an alignmen t page to confirm that the alignment was successful.
Store the pr int cartridge When you store or t ransport the printer, always leave the active print cartridge inside the printer. The print e r stor es the print cartridge i n a p r ote ctive cap durin g the power-dow n cycle.
3. Remove all pape r from t he input and output trays, the n close the input and output trays. 4. Push the printer scree n down into the flat po sition. Note Make sure the printe r completes its power-d own cycle bef ore you unplug the p ower cord. This allo ws the printer to store the print cartridge properly.
8 Troubleshooting The HP Phot osmart printer is designed to be re liable and easy to use. This chapter answers freq uently asked quest ions about using the pr inter and printing wit hout a computer.
Solution ● Check the printer screen for inst ructions. If you h ave a digital camera connecte d to the printer, check the camera scree n for instructions. If the printer is connected to a compu ter, check the computer monitor for instructions. ● Turn off the print er.
The printer i s plugged in, but it will not turn on. Solution ● The printer may have dra wn too much pow er. If the optional HP Pho tosmart Internal Batt ery is no t inst alled in the printe r, unplug the p rinter power cord. Wa it about 10 seconds, an d then plug t he power cord back in.
Printing problems Before contactin g HP support, read thi s section for troublesh ooting tips or go to t he online support services a t www.hp.com/support . The printer does not prin t borderless photos whe n I print from the control panel. Cause The borderless printing option may be turned off.
No page came out of the printe r. Solution ● The printer may need attention. Read the pri nter screen for inst ructions. ● The power may be off or there may be a loose connecti on. Make sure that the power is on and the p ower cord is securely connected.
A blank page came ou t of the printe r. Solution ● Check the ink-level icon on the pri n ter screen. If th e print cartridge is out of in k, replace it. Fo r more informat ion, see Replace the print cartrid g e . ● You may have begun printi ng and then cancelled th e process.
● The print cartridge may need to be alig ned. For more informa tion, see Align the print cartridge . ● Photos may be stacked i n the output tray. T he printed surface of your photo s needs to be left exposed to t he air for up to 5 minutes after printing.
● The passkey (PI N) that th e device with Bluet ooth wireless technology i s using for the printer may be incorrect. Make sure the correct pa sskey for the printer is entered in the device with Bluetooth w ireless technology. ● You may be too far from t he printer.
Error message: Paper j am. Clear jam then press OK. Solution Try the followi ng steps to clear the paper jam: ● If the paper came pa rt way throug h the front of the print er, gently pull the pap er towards you to remove it.
Error me ssage: Cartr idge service s tation is stuck . Solution The print cart ridge service station is th e component located beneath th e print cartridge cradle th at wipes and caps the prin t cartridge for storage. Follo w the se steps to clear the obstruction bl ocking the print cartridge se rvice station : 1.
