1 How to use the scanner This manual describe s how to use the HP Scanj et G2410 Flatbe d Scanner and the HP Scanjet G2710 Pho to Scanner. This section presents an overview of the scanner and how to use it.

Front-panel bu ttons Icon Feature name Description Scan button Scans pictures, graphics , documents, or objects. Copy button Scans the item and sen ds it to the printer to make a copy. Scan to PDF button (G2710 model only) Scans one or more pages and saves them as a PDF file for sharing or storing.
To start the HP Soluti on Center: 1. Do one of the foll owing: a . On the Windows desktop, double-click the HP Solution Center icon. b . On the taskbar, click Start , point to Programs or All Prog rams , point to HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
Select or iginal typ e — document or picture You have two choices for orig inal type: Document or Picture . The scanner optimize s settings based on you r choice.
Scan documents Use the Scan but ton ( ) to sca n documents. The scanner scans an or iginal document to th e destination th at is selected in the HP Scanning di alog box.
5. When you are finishe d with that page, p lace the next pa ge on the glass and click Scan to scan another document or p age. 6. When you are finished w ith all pages, cli ck Done . After you click Done , the software sends the scanned file to the specified l ocation.
Scan film NOTE: This section applies to the HP Scanjet G271 0 Photo Scanner on ly. This section cont ains informat ion about usin g the transparent materials ad apter (TMA) to scan positives, including 35 mm slides, and negatives.

Tips for sc anning tr ansparent i tems • To scan items larger th an those that the t ransparent materi als adapter (TMA) or template ac cepts, place t he transparency o n the scanner glass, p lace a white sheet of paper on top of the transparency, and then scan a s described in Scan pictures .

Scanner has stop ped working properly If the scanner stops scanning, complete the followin g steps, in order. After each ste p, start a scan to see if the scan ner is working. If the problem contin ues, proceed with the next step. 1. A cable might be loose.
Scanner will not tur n on If the scanner wi ll not turn on when you press the front-panel scanner bu ttons, check for these possible problems: • The scanner might have been unplug ged. Check to see t hat the power cab le has not become disconnected from the scanner or unplugge d from the power so urce.
Issues with scanning doc uments or text (OCR) The scanner uses optica l character recognition (OC R) to convert text on a page to text that you can edit o n your computer. • If you scan text but cannot edit it, make su re that you make the fo llowing selections during scanning: • HP Scanning (Select Document .
For more de tails, see Care and maintenance . Slides, negatives, and TMA issues NOTE: This section applies to HP Scanjet G 2710 Photo Scan ner only. Use this section to h elp resolve issues with 35 mm slides or 35 mm nega tives that have been scanned by using the TMA.
No light or only dim light is vi sible in the TM A after select ing slides or nega tives in the Scan dia log box After each step, start a scan to see if the scanner is working. If not, proceed with the n ext step. 1. Make sure that the TMA is connected to t he scanner.
