1 900 SERI ES™ INTRODUCTION Y our 900 Series™ Ultra Wide Screen Fishing System c omes in the following configuration: • Humminbird® 94 7c 3D Combo : Ultra Wide Screen Fishing S ystem with Chartplotter (Maps ) and Dual Frequency 455 kHz and 83 kHz T ransducer , GPS Receiver included.
GPS AN D CART OGRAPHY Y our 900 Series™ uses GPS and sonar to determine your position, display it on a grid, and provide detailed underwater inf ormation. The Global Positioning Syst em (GPS) is a satellite navigation syst em designed and maintained by the U.
3 AC CESSORY BUS Use the Accessory Bus to expand the functionality of your 900 Series™. Accessories plug directly into the 900 Series™, enabling Advanced featur es such as W eatherSense® and the Smar tCast® Wireless Sonar Link.
Basic installation tasks that you must perform include: • Installing the c ontrol head (choosing either gimbal or in- dash mounting) • Installing the tr ansducer (choosing either the transom mount.
5 1. Place the contr ol head into the gimbal brac ket. Make sure that the straigh t side of the gimbal arm is against the back side of the c ontrol head. 2. Place a 1" (25 mm) diameter blac k washer on the gimbal knob and then thread the knob and washer into the housing.
5. Set the gimbal brack et aside and drill the four mounting screw holes using a 5 /32" (4.0 mm) drill bit. 6a. If the cables must pass through a hole directly beneath the mounting brac ket, mark and drill an additional 1" (25 mm) hole centered between the f our mounting holes.
7 9 . While holding cables in place in the cable collector insert, thread the cables through the slot in the bot tom of the cable collector co ver , line up the cable collector insert and cover , then slide the cover into place on the insert. NO TE: T ab on cable collector insert goes into slot on c over .
IN-DASH MOUNTI NG THE CONTROL HEAD If you are in- dash mounting the control head, start by placing the components on the surfaces where you intend to install them befor e installation. Make sure that the surfaces you have chosen provide adequate pr otection from wave shoc k, and that all cables can reach the c ontrol head.
9 6. Insert cable connectors into the pr oper recesses on the cable collector insert. The cable connectors are k eyed to prevent reverse installation, so be careful not to force the c onnectors int o the wrong slots. If you don ’t have a cable for ever y hole in the insert, install the blank plugs to protect the unit from the weather .
C ONN ECTING TH E C ONTROL H EAD POWER CABLE T O THE BOA T A 6' (2 m) long power cable is included to supply power to the c ontrol head. Y ou may shorten or lengthen the cable using 18 gauge multi- stranded copper wire.
11 TRANSOM TRANSDUCER I NS T ALLA TION If you will be installing a transom mounted transducer , use the procedures in this section. There are several procedures you will have t o perform in order to install a transom-mounted transducer .
T o mount the transducer br acket to the boat: 1. Remo ve the transducer mounting template from this manual. (See Appendix A, T ransducer Mounting T emplate: SHS 7W ). 2. Hold the template on the transom of the boat in the location where the transducer will be installed.
13 T o mount the transducer piv ot assembly to the brack et: 1. Slide the assembled transducer into the metal brac ket from the bot tom, aligning the large hole at the top of the brac ket with the hole in the pivot. 2. Insert the headed pin through the pivot holes in the brack et and pivot.
5. If access to the top moun ting hole is not possible due to the selected height of the transducer , fully tighten the two lower screws , then simply remove the headed pivot pin and the transducer assembly , and tighten the top screw , then reassemble.
15 T o per f orm a final test of the transom tr ansducer installation: Af ter transom transducer installation, please perform the final testing and then finalize the installation (see T est and Finish the T ransducer Installation ).
4. Fill the hull with enough water to submer ge the transducer body . Use a sand-filled bag or other heavy object to hold the transducer in position. The transducer cannot transmit through air , and the water purges any air from between the transducer and the hull, and fills any voids in the coarse fiber glass surface.
17 TROLLING MOT OR TRANSDUCER I NS T ALLA TION If you want to install the transducer on a tr olling motor , use this procedure. Several styles of the transducer are compatible with tr olling motor mounting. If you have a trolling motor brac ket, refer t o the separate installation instructions that are included with the brack et.
NO TE: Due to the wide variety of boat hulls , it is not always possible to obtain high speed depth readings. NO TE: It is often necessary to mak e several incremental transducer adjustments before optimum high speed performance is achieved.
19 2. Screw on the receiver base to the st em first, making sure that the stem pipe does not protrude from the r eceiver base. This adds protection to the cable when pulling it thr ough the pipe stem. In addition to this , de- burr the pipe edges to reduce cable abrasion.
NO AC CESS U NDER MOU NTING LOCA TION Follow these steps t o deck mount the GPS r eceiver in a situation where you must rout e the cable to the side because there is no space f or a cable underneath the mounting location. 1. Determine the best location, then test r oute the cable from the moun ting location to the con trol head.
21 TEMPERA TU RE PROBE AC CESSORY INS T ALLA TION The T emperature Probe inc orporates a temperature sensitive probe in a high- impact plastic housing.
3. Route the cable to the C ontrol Head, and insert the connector into the appropriate slot. Use the c onnector designated for accessories on the c ontrol head. 4. If the connections are corr ect, the Contr ol Head will begin displaying water temperature information immediat ely (assuming that the c ontrol head is powered on).
