1 1 Getting to Know Y our Phone Y our V odafone 830 phone can operat e in virtually all countries, automatically switchin g between WCDMA/HSDP A 2100 and GSM/GPRS 900/1800/ 1900 networks. This allows you to enjoy communica - tion wherever you use your mobile phone.

Home Screen 3 Getting to Know Y our Phone 1 Home Screen Icon bar This area displays the phone status. The fo llowing table illustra tes the icons that may appear on this bar . Icon Description Indicates signal stre ngth. The more hori - zontal bars that app ear , the stronger the signal.
Introduction to the Menu 4 Introduction to the Menu Y our phone provides an extensive range of fu nctions. Y ou can use these functio ns by navigating the follow - ing menus: Web, Ema il, Applications, Music, Mes - saging, My Files, Entert ainment, Contact s, Organiser & T ools, Mobile TV , Call s and Settings.
5 2 Getting St arted Loading the SIM Card Load your SIM card before u sing your phone. T o use the SIM card properly , please read the foll owing instructions carefully . Note • Keep the SIM card out of the reach of chil - dren. • The SIM card and its metal contacts can be easily damaged by scratching or bending.
Charging the Battery 6 1 Unload the back cover out of the phone . 2 Please unload the battery accordin g to the fol - lowing picture. 3 Press the SIM card with one finger and sl ide it out of the slot. Charging the Battery Before charging the battery , please read the following precautions carefully .
Charging the Battery 7 2 Getting St arted Before charging th e battery with a cable charger , ensure that the battery has been pr operly loaded into your phone. T o charge the battery , do as follows: 1 Insert the plug of the charge r into the connector of the phone as shown in the foll owing figure.
Powering On/Off 8 Powering On/Off Powering On Ensure that the SIM card is in your phone and that the battery has been charged. Press and hold to power on your phone. Powering Off Press and hold to power off your ph one. Access Codes For setting and changing t he access codes, please refer to "Settings/S ecurity" on page 41 .
9 3 Call Service Making or Answering Calls Making a V o ice or Video Call Y ou can make a video call to other person whose phone also supports vi deo calls. 1 Enter or edit a phone number in one of the fol - lowing ways: • Enter a phone number through the ke ypad.
Operations During a V oice Call 10 Note When the phone is closed and there is no ongoing call, you can press and hold the cam - era key to mute the ringtone of an incoming call. Y ou can also pre ss and hold the volume keys to reject the call. Y ou can also set t he auto an swer mode to Immedi - ate answer , T ext message or Recorded voice .
Operations During a Video Call 11 3 Call Ser vice • Conference call/Private call : T o switch to the con - ference call d uring a 3-party call or to t alk with a party privatel y d uring a conference call.
Calls 12 Calls The recently dialed calls, received calls and missed calls are saved automatically . Select Calls in the main menu and then press th e left/right scroll key to select All calls , Missed , Received or Dialed . Then select Options for the following options.
13 4 T ext Input Y ou can use the keyp ad to enter alphanumeric char - acters and symbols. For example, you can add entries to the cont acts, write messages or schedule events o n the calendar . Note While entering text: • Press to switch between input metho ds.

15 5 Cont act s Contact s enables you to save and manage such information as phone nu mbers and addresses of your contact s. Y ou can save such information in yo ur phone or your SIM card. Making Calls from the Cont act s Y ou can make a voice/video call with a contact selected from the co ntacts list.
Groups 16 • Memory st atus : T o view the memory stat us of both your phone and SIM card. Group s Adding/Dele ting Group Members 1 In the Contact s screen, press the lef t/right scroll key to select Groups . 2 Select a group and press OK key t o view the details.
17 6 Messaging , Email Messages The maximum content fo r a single text me ssage is 160 characters. If the ch aracters you enter exce ed this limit, the text is divided into two or more continu - ous messages when it is sent. Creating a Message With this option, you can create new SMS, MMS.

Email 19 Messaging, Email 6 ◆ Outbox Outbox is used to save the messages that failed to be sent. Icons in Outbox : A message that fails to be se nt. Viewing and Editing Messages in the Outbox 1 Select Messaging > Outbox . 2 Press the up/down scroll key to select a mes - sage and press OK key to edit it.
Email 20 ◆ Inbox All Emails received are saved in the Inbox. Icons in Inbox : A re ad email . : An unread ema il. Viewing and Editing Emails in Inbox 1 Select an email and press OK key to view the content. 2 In the Details screen, select Options for the fo l - lowing operations: • View : T o view the content.
Broadcast Inbox 21 Messaging, Email 6 Viewing and Editing Email s in Outbox 1 Select an email and press OK key to access the editing screen. 2 Edit the rela ted information. For detail s, perform the same operations as in creating an email. ◆ Blocked The blocked emails are saved in this folde r .
22 7 Music Music enables you to manage your music files easily and conveniently . Recently Played Select this option, you can play the recently played music file. Music Library Y ou can play various music files, including those su p - plied with the phone, recorded by using the phone, downloaded from the Intern et, and attached to emai l.
23 8 Organiser & To o l s This function provides you with various help ful tools. Y ou can select Organiser & T ools from the main menu. Alarm s Setting Alarm Clocks Enter alarm function , you can s elect one alarm from the list, and then press OK key to set an alarm clock .
Synchronis e 24 Synchroni se Y ou can synchroni s e contacts with your personal phone book in t he V odafone ne twork. Before u se the synchronise function, you may need to set a profile. 1 T o create a profile, select Options > New to cre - ate a profile.
Currency Converter 25 Organiser & T ools 8 length. Select CE to clear the numeric values you entered. Currency Converter Y ou can convert a value from one currency to another using your phone. Pr ess the up/down scroll key to switch between the setup items.
26 9 My Files Y ou can select My Files from the main menu. My Files enables you to manage the Pictures, Ring - tones, Music, V ideos, Themes , and Ot hers files con - veniently . Select Pictures , Ringtones , Music or V ideos folder . Y ou can perform the following operations on files.
27 10 Web, Applications, Mobile TV Web The built-in browser makes it easy to browse the V odafone live! portal. Y ou can access the V odafone live! by selecting We b from the main menu. Applications S elect Applications from the main menu . Yo u c a n run applications, downl oad more applications and access the web fu nction.
28 11 Entertainment Games In the main menu, select Ente rtai nment > Games . V odafone of fers a great choice of games for your mobile phone. T o download one of these to the phone or memory card , select Download Games . Camera / Video Camera In the main menu, select Ente rtai nment > Camera to start the camera.

Video call 40 Caller ID This options allows you to select whet her to display your phone number on the phone of t he party who you called. I f s elect Auto , w hether your phon e num - ber will be shown on the called phone depe nds on the network. Select line This option is used to set the call line for your phone.
