GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 6 – English Bef ore using a new c hain sa w • Please read this manual carefully . • Check that the cutting equipment is correctly fitted and adjusted. See instr uctions under the heading Assembly . • Refuel and star t the chain saw .
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 7 Al wa ys use common sense It is not possib le to cov er e v er y conceivab le situation y ou can f ace when using a chain saw . Always e xercise care and use your common sense . Av oid all situations which you consider to be be yond y our capability .
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 8 – English T ake care when using y our saw and mak e sure the kickbac k zone of the bar ne ver touches any object. • The chain brak e (A) can either be activated man ually (by y our left hand) or automatically by the inertia release mechanism.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 9 • In the f elling position the left hand is in a position that makes man ual activation of the chain br ake impossible .
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 10 – English Vibration damping system Y our machine is equipped with a vibration damping system that is designed to minimize vibration and mak e operation easier . The machine ′ s vibration damping system reduces the transf er of vibration between the engine unit/cutting equipment and the machine ′ s handle unit.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 11 • Keep the chain’ s cutting teeth pr operly sharpened! Follow our instructions and use the recommended file gauge . A damaged or badly shar pened chain increases the risk of accidents. • Maintain the correct depth gauge setting! Follow our instructions and use the recommended depth gauge clearance.

GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 13 • File all the teeth to the same length. When the length of the cutting teeth is reduced to 4 mm (5/32") the chain is worn out and should be replaced. General advice on adjusting depth gauge setting • When you sharpen the cutting tooth (A) the depth gauge setting (C) will decrease.

GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 15 B Rim sprock et (replaceable) Regularly check the degree of wear on the driv e sprock et. Replace if wear is e xcessiv e.
ASSEMBL Y 16 – English Fitting the bar and chain Check that the chain br ake is in disengaged position b y moving the front hand guard to wards the front handle. Remov e the bar nuts and remo ve the clutch co v er (chain brak e). T ake off the transportation r ing (A).
FUEL HANDLING English – 17 Fuel Note! The machine is equipped with a two-strok e engine and must alwa ys be r un using a mixture of petrol and two- stroke oil. It is impor tant to accurately measure the amount of oil to be mix ed to ensure that the correct mixture is obtained.
FUEL HANDLING 18 – English Fuelling Clean the area around the fuel cap . Clean the fuel and chain oil tanks regularly . The fuel filter must be replaced at least once a year . Contamination in the tanks causes malfunction. Make sure the fuel is well mix ed b y shaking the container bef ore refuelling.
ST AR TING AND ST OPPING English – 19 Star ting and stopping Cold engine Starting: The chain brake m ust be engaged when the chain saw is started. Activ ate the brak e by mo ving the front hand guard f orwards. Ignition; choke: Set the chok e control in the choke position.
ST AR TING AND ST OPPING 20 – English pre vents unnecessary wear to the clutch, clutch drum and brak e band. Note! Reactivate the chain br ake b y pushing the front hand guard back to wards the front handle . The chain saw is now ready f or use. • Ne ver start a chain saw unless the bar , chain and all cov ers are fitted correctly .
W ORKING TECHNIQ UES English – 21 Bef ore use: 1 Check that the chain br ake works correctly and is not damaged. 2 Check that the rear right hand guard is not damaged. 3 Check that the throttle loc kout w orks correctly and is not damaged. 4 Check that the stop s witch works correctly and is not damaged.
W ORKING TECHNIQ UES 22 – English lose control. Both situations can cause ser ious personal injur y . 6 Bef ore moving y our chain saw s witch off the engine and lock the chain using the chain br ake . Carr y the chain saw with the bar and chain pointing bac kwards .
W ORKING TECHNIQ UES English – 23 the saw chain is jamming, the sa w ma y be pushed back at y ou. 8 Unless the user resists this pushing f orce there is a risk that the chain saw will mov e so f ar bac kwards that only the kickbac k zone of the bar is in contact with the tree, which will lead to a kic kback.
W ORKING TECHNIQ UES 24 – English Cut difficult branches piece b y piece. Cutting If you ha v e a pile of logs, each log y ou attempt to cut should be remov ed from the pile, placed on a sa w horse or runners and cut individually . Remov e the cut pieces from the cutting area.
W ORKING TECHNIQ UES English – 25 Mak e sure that no-one else is in this ”risk zone” before or during felling. Felling direction The aim is to f ell the tree in a position where you can limb and cross-cut the log as easily as possible . Y ou want it to f all in a location where you can stand and mo ve about saf ely .
W ORKING TECHNIQ UES 26 – English Felling F elling is done using three cuts. First you mak e the directional cuts, which consist of the top cut and the bottom cut, then you finish with the f elling cut. By placing these cuts correctly you can control the f elling direction very accurately .
W ORKING TECHNIQ UES English – 27 When the f elling cut and directional cut are complete the tree should star t to f all by itself or with the aid of a f elling wedge or breaking bar .
W ORKING TECHNIQ UES 28 – English If you m ust cut across tree/limb , make tw o to three cuts, one inch apar t, one to two inches deep . Continue to cut deeper until tree/limb bends and tension is released. Cut tree/limb from outside the bend, after tension has been released.
MAINTENANCE English – 29 General The user must only carry out the maintenance and ser vice work described in this manual. Carb urettor adjustment Due to e xisting environmental and emissions legislation your chain sa w is equipped with mov ement limiters on the carburettor adjuster scre ws.
MAINTENANCE 30 – English High speed jet H At the factory the engine is adjusted at sea level. When working at a high altitude or in diff erent weather conditions, temperatures and atmospheric humidity , it ma y be necessary to make minor adjustments to the high speed jet.
MAINTENANCE English – 31 Checking the right-hand brake trig ger Chec k that the right hand guard is not damaged and that there are no visible def ects , such as crac ks. Push the trigger up and forw ards to check that it mo ves freely and is securely hinged to the clutch cov er .
MAINTENANCE 32 – English necessar y with an aluminium chain catcher (is av ailable as spare par t). Right hand guar d Chec k that the right hand guard is not damaged and that there are no visible def ects , such as crac ks. Vibration damping system Regular ly check the vibration damping units f or crac ks or def or mation.
MAINTENANCE English – 33 use a muffler if the spark arrestor mesh is missing or defective. The muffler is designed to reduce the noise le v el and to direct the e xhaust gases aw a y from the operator . The e xhaust gases are hot and can contain sparks, which may cause fire if directed against dr y and comb ustible material.
MAINTENANCE 34 – English • Lubricate the recoil spr ing with light oil. Fit the cassette with recoil spring in the star ter . Fit the star ter pulley and tension the recoil spring. Fitting the starter • T o fit the star ter , first pull out the starter cord and place the star ter in position against the crankcase.
MAINTENANCE English – 35 Lubr ication inv olves engine oil dripping into the centre of the clutch drum as it rotates. Adjustment of the oil pump (346XP/353) The oil pump is adjustable . Adjustments are made by turning the screw using a screwdriver or combination spanner .
MAINTENANCE 36 – English electr ical heating coils. These are supplied with electricity from a generator b uilt into the chain saw . When the s witch is pushed upwards, the heat is s witched on. When the s witch is pushed downwards, the heat is s witched off.
English – 37 MAINTENANCE Maintenance schedule The f ollowing is a list of the maintenance that must be perf or med on the machine. Most of the items are descr ibed in the Maintenance section. Daily maintenance W eekly maintenance Monthly maintenance Clean the outside of the machine.
