2 I. GENERAL OPERA TION • Read, understand, and f ollow all instructions in the manual and on the machine bef ore star ting. • Only allow responsib le adults, who are f amiliar with the in struc tions, to operate the machine. • Clear the area of objects such as rocks , toys , wire, etc.
3 • Be sure the area is clear of other people bef ore mowing. Stop machine if any one enters the area. • Nev er carr y passengers or children e ven with the b lades off . • Do not mow in rev erse unless absolutely necessar y . Al ways look down and behind bef ore and while backing.

6 Y our new tractor has been assemb led at the factory with exception of those par ts left unassemb led for shipping purposes. T o ensure saf e and proper operation of your tr actor all par ts and hardware you assemb le must be tightened securely . Use the correct tools as necessar y to insure proper tightness .
7 ASSEMBLE GA UGE WHEELS T O MO WER DECK (See Fig. 5) The gauge wheels are designed to keep the mo wer deck in proper position when operating mow er . Be sure they are prop er ly adjusted to ensure optimum mower per for - mance. • Slide gauge wheel bar down into brac ket channel, Be sure that gauge wheel bar aligning holes are on top .

9 CHECK TIRE PRESSURE The tires on your tr actor were ov er infl ated at the factory f or shipping pur poses. Correct tire pressure is impor tant f or best cutting performance. • Reduce tire pressure to PSI shown in “PRODUCT SPEC I FI CA TIONS” section of this man ual.

14 OPERA TION T O ST ART ENGINE (See Fig. 8) When star ting the engine f or the fi rst time or if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take e xtra cranking time to mov e fuel from the tank to the engine. • Be sure freewheel control is in the transmission en gaged position.
15 OPERA TION MO WING TIPS • Mower should be properly lev eled f or best mowing per- f or mance. See “T O LEVEL MOWER HOUSING” in the Ser vice and Adjustments section of this manual. • The left hand side of mower should be used f or trim- ming.
16 LUBRICA TION CHART BEFORE EACH USE T R A C T 0 R Inspect Muffler/Spark Arrester Lubrication Chart Check Brake Operation Clean Air Filter Change Engine Oil (with oil filter) Replace Air Filter Paper.
17 MAINTENANCE TRA CT OR Alwa ys obser v e safety rules when perf or ming an y main- te nance. BRAKE OPERA TION If tractor requires more than six (6) f eet stopping distance at high speed in highest gear , then brak e must be adjusted. (See “TO ADJUST BRAKE” in the Ser vice and Ad just ments section of this manual).
18 MAINTENANCE CLEAN AIR SCREEN Air screen must be k ept free of dir t and chaff to prev ent engine dam age from ov erheating. Clean with a wire br ush or compressed air to re mov e dir t and stubborn dr ied gum fi bers. TRANSAXLE COOLING The transmission f an and cooling fi ns should be kept clean to assure proper cooling.
19 MAINTENANCE IN-LINE FUEL FIL TER (See Fig. 18) The fuel fi lter should be re placed once each season. If fuel fi l ter becomes clogged, ob str uct ing fuel fl ow to car bu re tor , re place ment is re quired. • With engine cool, remov e fi lter and plug fuel line sec- tions.
