1 Get started Step 1: Get star ted Using this book This book helps you set up y our pr inter and scanner (MFP option). If you do not ha ve an option listed here , you can skip that por tion of the setup guide and continue to the ne xt task.
Selecting a location f or y our printer and MFP Height Width Depth CA UTION: The printer weighs 20.4 kg (45 lb) and requires at least two people to lift it saf ely .
3 Get started Customizing y our MFP option Y ou can customize y our MFP with various input and memor y options. The printer base provides stability when configuring the pr inter plus input options.
Step 2: Assemb le paper handling options CA UTION: If you are using a 2000-sheet dra wer , a duple x unit with one or more input dra wers, or more than one 500-sheet dra wer , you must use either a printer stand or a caster base.
5 Place po wer adapter brack et (1) aside for later use . The other pow er adapter brac ket is not used with this scanner and can be discarded. Note: Be sure to set up the Use the f ollowing table to locate the instructions you need to set up items in the order listed in your printer and the paper handling options you purchased.
4 T urn the 2000-sheet draw er over so the bottom side is up . Dra wer bottom 5 Remov e the four scre ws and rubber feet from the bottom of the 2000-sheet dra wer . 6 Place the caster cov er on the bottom of the 2000-sheet dra wer . 7 Place the frame assemb ly inside the caster cover .
8 Inser t the two long machine scre ws from the caster base hardware bag thro ugh the scre w holes of the frame assemb ly and the caster cov er , and then into the holes in the bottom of the 2000-sheet dra wer . Each scre w goes through a lock w a sher , then a flat washer , then through the frame assembly and cov er .
Installing scre ws in the 2000-sheet dra wer Assembling the caster base f or the 500 or 250-sheet dra wer 1 Inser t two shor t stabilizer scre ws (2) into the pock ets of the 2000-sheet dra wer .
Installing scre ws in the 500-sheet dra wer and caster base Dra wer bottom 1 Remov e a 500-sheet dra wer from the car ton. 2 Remo v e all packing material and tape from the drawer and paper tra y . 3 If y ou are using a table or printer stand, then place the 500- sheet dra wer in that location and go to step 8, otherwise continue to step 4.
Installing additional 500- sheet dra wer s Installing 250- sheet dra wer s Dra wer bottom 1 Remov e a 500-sheet dra wer from the car ton. 2 Remo v e all packing material and tape from the drawer and paper tra y . 3 Use a flat tip scre wdr iv er to remov e the r ubber f eet from the bottom of the 500-sheet dra wer .
11 Assemble paper handling options 5 Place the dra wer on top of the previously installed dr awer or caster base. 6 Inser t two shor t stabilizer scre ws (2) into the pockets of the 250-sheet dra wer . The screws go through the dr awer and into the top of the screws of the pre viously installed dra wer or into the caster frame assemb ly .
12 Assemble paper handling options 5 Place the duple x unit on top of any installed dra wers. If you are not using a caster base , place the duplex unit on a table or optional printer stand and go to “P ositioning the printer . ” 6 Make sure the dr awers and duple x unit lock together securely .
13 Assemble paper handling options 8 Complete steps a and b if y our configuration does not include a duple x unit. a Inser t the two shor t stabilizer posts (4) into the top of the stabilizer scre ws that were pre viously installed in the optional dra wer .
14 Assemble paper handling options Installing printer memory and netw ork options 1 Press the release latches to open the upper and lower front doors. 2 Press down on the side door latches and open the side door . Remo vi ng the shi eld 1 Loosen, but do not remo ve , the six screws on the shield.
Ins tallin g m em ory Ins talling a firm ware card Ins talling an op tion ca rd 1 Unpack the memory option. 2 Open both latches on the connector . 3 Push the memory card fir mly into the connector until it snaps into place. 1 Locate the holes on the system board near the option card connectors.
16 Assemble paper handling options 6 Inser t the two scre ws sav e d from the metal plate (or the e xtra screws shipped with the card). 7 Tighten the screws to secure the card. Re attac hing the sh ield and closing the doors 1 Align the three ke yholes on the shield with the screws.
17 Set up the printer Step 3: Set up the printer Remo ving the print car tridge pac kaging 1 Open the printer upper front door . 2 Pull the print car tridge up and out. 3 Remov e the tabs and packaging from the car tridge. 4 Reinser t the pr int car tridge into the pr inter .
Attaching decals 1 Attach the numbered decals to the recessed areas on the and o verlay optional dra wers and tra ys. 2 If English is not your pref erred language: a Locate the adhesiv e ov er la y packaged with y our pr inter . b P eel the backing off the o verla y .

V erify ing th e IP s etting s Note: On Windows computers, clic k Star t Programs Command prompt (or Accessories Command prompt if using Windows 2000). Attaching the scanner shelf 3 Press Menu until y ou see Std Net Setup (or Network 1 Setup or Network 2 Setup), and then press Select .
3 Remo v e the top cove r or any pre viously installed print media handling options from the printer . Y ou will not need the cov er when the scanner shelf is attached. Store the cov er , it will be needed if you remo ve the shelf . 4 Align and inser t the scanner shelf mounting brack ets into the slots on top of the printer .
23 Install the scanner Step 4: Install the scanner 1 Open the scanner bo x and then remov e all items from the box e xcept the scanner . 2 Make sure y ou hav e the follo wing items: 3 Place all items e xcept the scanner aside for later use . 4 Remov e the scanner from the bo x and place it on a flat, le vel surf ace.
Step 5: Install the f eed tra y and paper stop 1 Connect the paper e xtension to the feed tr a y . P aper e xtension F eed tra y 2 Attach the f eed tray to the automatic document f eeder .
3 Open the paper suppor t on the feed tr ay . 4 Attach the paper stop to the top cov er . Install the feed tray and paper stop 25.
Step 6: Attac h cables and po wer cor ds Attaching cab les to the printer Note: Germany: Use only the Ger man T AE type F adapter shipped with this product because it contains a billing tone filter . The adapter is designed only f or the F connector of the Ger man wall outlet.
27 Attach cables and power cords Attaching cab les to the scanner 1 Connect the scanner cab le to the scanner . 2 Connect the automatic document f eeder cable to the connector on the back of the scanner . 3 Connect the powe r adapter cord to the scanner .
Step 7: T urn on the scanner and printer P erforming a power up sequence On/off s witch 1 If y ou are using a pr int ser v er with a modem, plug the telephone f ax line cable into the phone line outlet. 2 If y ou disconnected the Ether net network cable from the print ser v er or wall outlet, reconnect it.
6 W ait f or the MFP to initialize. When the scanner comes on, there is a shor t wait cycle while the firmware is initialized. Please Set Date/Time is displa yed on the first line of the MFP control panel and “ Please Wait ... ” is displa yed on the second line.
Step 8: Chang e y our default cop y settings A number of cop y settings are av ailable f or customizing the MFP output to suit your needs . Some settings or values are displa yed only if a specific option is installed on your printer . The indicator light ne xt to the value on the control panel illuminates to indicate the current setting.
Using y our br owser Note: Many of these settings depend on the printer , options, and scanner combination y ou hav e. 1 T ype the IP address of the MFP in the URL field of your browser (f or e xample, http://192.168.236.24), and then press Enter . 2 Clic k Configuration .
Step 9: Set send and receive fax inf ormation Under standing FCC fax requirements Note: See “Electronic emission notices” on page 48 and “T elecomm unications notices” on page 48 f or more FCC inf or mation. Note: If you do not ha ve a TCP/IP environment, y ou must use the MFP control panel to set your basic f ax inf or mation.
P e r for mi n g ma nua l f ax setup Y ou can quickly change men u settings from the MFP control panel by pressing Menu and then selecting the menu f or the area you w ant to change. T o man ually enter the f ax setup information: 1 On the control panel, press Men u repeatedly until y ou see F ax Quick Setup , and then press Select .
P erforming bro wser f ax setup Note: Configuration is a task usually done by a network administrator . If you are prompted f or a passw ord during the follo wing instructions, see your network administrator f or help .
Using Mar kVisi on Professional to set fax inf orm atio n Note: Instructions for installing MarkVision Prof essional are in the CD booklet shipped with the drivers CD . Creat ing permanent f ax desti nations Note: Once per manent f ax destinations are created, they become accessib le on the MFP control panel. Press Fax/Scan mode repeatedly until SCAN → F a x appears in the control panel displa y . Press Menu to mo ve through the list.

When an e-mail cannot be sent, notification is retur ned to this address. Creating permanent e-mail destinations Note: Bef ore you create a destination, check the list at the bottom of the W eb page.

Step 11: V erify MFP setup Making a test cop y Cop y mode is the default setting of the control panel. 1 Make sure the Ready message is displa yed. 2 Place your original document in the scanner . 3 Press Go/Send to send a cop y to your printer . Sending a test fax Send a one page test fax to someone and ask f or f eedback.

Cleaning the automatic document feeder F eed rollers The scanner par ts can become contaminated with ink, toner par ticles, or paper coatings. Clean the scanner f eed rollers if documents do not f eed smoothly or easily , or if se ver al documents f eed at one time.
45 Maintain your scanner Cleaning the document glass 1 Open the document cov er . 2 W et a clean, lint-free cloth or cotton sw ab with water . 3 Wipe the scanner glass and automatic document f eeder area by mo ving the cloth or sw ab from side to side.
Mo ving the If you need to transport the scanner , follo w these instr uctions to scanner relock the scanner: Wa r n i n g : F ailure to loc k the scan mechanism bef ore moving the unit can cause inter nal damage . 1 Raise the scanner high enough to mov e the s witch down to the lock ed position.
47 Maintain your scanner 3 Remov e the old automatic document feeder pad assemb ly by squeezing and pulling out the upper par t of the pad clamp. 4 Hold the upper par t of the new clamp , squeeze , and place it gently in the pad holder . 5 Close the automatic document f eeder .
