Introduction 3 Y our new appliance is guaranteed* and will give lasting service. This guarant ee is only applicable if the appliance has been installed in accordance with the inst allation instructions detailed in this booklet. T o help make best use of your cooking equipment, please read thi s booklet carefully .

NEVER . . . NEVER leave children unsupervised where the cooker is installed as all sur faces will get hot during and after use. NEVER allow anyone t o sit or stand on any par t of the cooker . NEVER store items that children ma y attempt to reach abov e the c ooker .

Know y our Timer (KD643E only) CL OCKF ACE The timer incorporates a 24 hour clock. Ensure the correct time of day is alw ays set, before using your cooker. SYMBOLS A ‘bell’ symbol will light up when you select a M inute Minder Period and will remain lit for the period set.
8 Elec tronic Clock & A utomatic Ov en Timer Operation (KD643E only) SETTING THE TIME OF DA Y Step 1 Make sure all oven controls ar e turned O ff . Step 2 Check the electricity supply to the cooker is turned on. Step 3 When switched on the display will show 0.
9 Elec tronic Clock & A utomatic Ov en Timer Operation (KD643E only) Step 3 Press and hold in the C ook Period button. The display will read 0.00 with the ‘ cook pot’ symbol lit. Step 4 With the Cook P eriod button still held in, set the required Cook Per io d using the “+” and “–” buttons.

11 Elec tronic Clock & A utomatic Ov en Timer Operation (KD643E only) O THER NOTES ON TIMER OPERA TION 1. When cooking Automatically the Cook P eriod can be checked at an y time simply by pressing the Cook Period button. 2. When cooking Automatically the End Time can be checked at any t ime by simply pressing the End Time button.
The hotplate has two high speed burners and two simmering burners which will accommodate pans between 100mm (4”) and 230mm (9”) diamet er . All pans should be positioned centrally ov er the burners.
13 SAFET Y REQUIREMENTS FOR DEEP F A T FRYING 1. Never fill chip pans more than one third full with oil or fa t . 2. Never leav e oil or fat unattended during the heating or cooli ng period. 3. Never heat fat or fry with a lid on the pan. 4. Always dry food thoroughly bef ore fr ying, and lower it slowly int o the hot oil or fat.
14 T O USE THE GRILL 1. Open the grill/top oven door and plac e the shelf in the requi red position. 2. T urn the grill control knob clock wise to 4 (max) for full width grilling or anticlockwise for the half grill. 3. Slide the grill pan toward the back of the grill compartment until it stops.
15 Both ovens ha ve a thermostat light that will illuminate until the ov en has reached the set temperature . It will then switch off and on during cook ing as the thermostat maintains the temperature . Each shelf has a safety stop to prev ent it from being pulled ou t too far when attending to food .
O VEN COOKING CHART Beef/ Lamb (slow roasting) Meat 170/180 35 mins per 450g (1lb) + 35 mins ov er . Runner 1 from bottom of ov en. 35-40 mins per 450g (1lb) 40 mins per 450g (1lb) + 40 mins ov er 40 .
Note: If soft margarine is used for cak e making, temperatures recommended by the manuf acturers should be follo wed. T emperatures recommended in th is chart refer to cakes made with b lock margarine only . O VEN COOKING CHAR T 17 Scones Food Pre- heat Ye s 210/220 10-15 Runner 1 from bottom of ov en.
The 90˚ setting on the main ov en thermostat can be used for slow cookin g. PREP ARING FOOD FOR SL OW COOKING 1. All dishes c ook ed by the ‘S’ setting should be cooked for a minimum 6 hours. They will ‘hold’ at this setting for a further hour but marked deterioration in appearance will be noticed in some cases .
Switch off the electricity supply and allow to c o ol before cleaning the c ooker . Clean the cooker r egularly and wipe up spills soon af ter they occur to pr event them from becoming burnt on.
20 C OOKER FINISH CLEANING METHOD Vitreous Enamel Hotplate , pan suppor ts, hotplate front trim, burner caps, roasting dish, grill pan, main oven base , inside of grill compartment, inside of doors. Cloth wrung out in warm soapy water . Stubborn stains can be remov ed with a cream paste, liquid cleaner or by rubbing with fine steel wool soap pads.
21 Take particular care not to damage the inner sur face of the door inner glass that is coated with a hea t reflec tiv e layer . D o not use scouring pads , or abrasive powder , which will scratch the glass. Ensure that the glass panel is not subjected to any sharp mechanical blo ws.
PROBLEM CHECK Ignition does not work. 22 Before contacting your near est S ervice Cen tre or Installer , check the problem guide below , there may be nothing wrong with y our cooker . Burner por ts Ignitor Hotplate burner . I f all burners fail to ignit e: Check that sparks appear at the burners; a click ing noise should be heard .
(KD643E only) Cannot set an “ Auto C ook ” programme or cannot get the timer to turn the ov en on or off at the required times . Read the Timer instruc tions in this book carefully remembering that the Cook period is the length of time that the timer will switch the ov en(s) on as par t of an Auto Cooking Programme .
Prior to installation, ensure that the local distribution conditions (nature of the gas and gas pressure) and the adjustment conditions ar e compatible. The adjustment conditions for this appliance ar e stated on the rating label which is fitted on the back panel.

SP A CE FOR FIXING The cooker can be close fitted below hotplat e level. This requires a minimum distance of 600mm between cupboard units of hotplat e he ight. When installing next to a tall cupboard , par tition or wall, for a minimum distance of 400mm abov e hotplate level, allow a side clearance of at least 65mm.
LEVELLING T wo rear wheels and two front f eet are fitted which can be adjusted up or down to set the height (915mm) and level the cooker . 1. The rear wheels can be raised or low ered from the BACK of the cooker by adjusting the levelling screws ‘ A ’ in the plinth.
28 W arning - THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED The cooker must be connected by a qualified electrician to a suitable double - pole control unit with a minimum rating of 32A and a minimum contact clearance of 3mm, which should be fitted adjacent to (but not abo ve) the cooker , in accordance with IEE regulations.
