JVS0124X PRECAUTIONS ON DISTANCE CON- TROL ASSIST SYSTEM The system is intended to assist the driver to keep a following distance from the vehicle ahead traveling in the same lane and direction.
5-56 Starting and driving — When rain, snow or dirt adhere to the system sensor — On steep downhill roads (frequent braking may result in overheating the brakes) — On repeated uphill and downhill roads . Do not use the Distance C ontrol Assist system if you are towing a trailer.
In these instances, the Distance Control Assist (DCA) system may not be able to decelerate the vehicle properly. Be sure to chec k and clean the sensor regularly . The DCA system is designed to help assist the driver to maintain a following distance from the vehicle ahead.
5-58 Starting and driving SSD0252 The detection zone of the sensor is limited. A vehicle ahead must be in the detection zone for the system to operate. A vehicle ahead may move outside of the detection zone due to its position within the same lane of travel.
SSD0253 When driving on some roads, such as winding, hilly, curved, narrow roads, or roads which are under construction, the sensor may detect vehicles in a different lane, or may temporarily not detect a vehicle traveling ahead. This may cause the system to work inappropriately.

5-78 Starting and driving SD1006MA WARNING . Do not stop or park the vehicle over flammable materials such as dry grass, waste paper or rags. They may ignite and cause a fire. . Never leave the engine running while the vehicle is unattended. . Do not leave children unattended inside the vehicle.
WARNING If the engine is not running or is turned off while driving, the power assist for the steering will not work. Steering will be harder to operate. The power assisted steering uses a hy- draulic pump, driven by the engine, to assist steering. If the engine stops or the drive belt breaks, you will still have control of the vehicle.
5-80 Starting and driving BRAKING PRECAUTIONS The brake system has two separate hy- draulic circuits. If one circuit malfunctions, you will still have braking at two wheels. Y ou may feel a small click and hear a sound when the brake pedal is fully depressed slowly.
erating could cause the wheels to skid and result in an accident. . If the engine is not running or is turned off while driving, the power assist for the brakes will not work.
