1 Model 8601 Sof tPhone for Pocket PC User Guide W ELCOME The Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocket PC is a software-based, Session Initiation Pro- tocol (SIP) softphone that ru n s on th e P oc ket PC 20 02 (or later) Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) platforms.

3 Model 8601 Sof tPhone for Pocket PC User Guide The following table describes th e Model 8601 icons and menus. No# ICON/MENU DESCRIPTIONS REF . PA G E 1 TA L K Places a call. Th is icon changes to HOLD or RESUME , depending on the phone status. 13 2 CALL LOG Opens the Call Log that shows the call history of up to 30 calls.
4 Model 8601 Soft Phone for Pocket PC User Guid e S ETTING U P V OICE M AIL T o begin usin g your voice mailbox, yo u will need to complete a few basi c set-up pro- cedures to initialize your mailbo x, customi ze your personal g reetings, and record your voice mail directory name.
5 Model 8601 Sof tPhone for Pocket PC User Guide Recording Y our Personal Greetings Y ou can store two dif ferent personal greetings in your voice mailbox: a primary and an alternate. Y ou can then select whic h greeting you want played when a caller reaches your voice mailbox.
6 Model 8601 Soft Phone for Pocket PC User Guid e Recording Y our V oice Mail Directory Name Y our recorded name is used to identify you in the voice mail directory and to verify your mailbox number when messages are addressed to you. T o change yo ur directory name: 1.

T o program the settings, tap the desired option from the bottom bar . Phone The Phone menu provides acce ss to Call Log, Speed-Dial, Do-Not-Disturb, and Mes- sage(s) settings.
8 Model 8601 Soft Phone for Pocket PC User Guid e Speed Dial The Speed Dial option allo ws you to save up to te n numbers. T o see the Speed-Dial list: Ta p SPD DIAL or select Speed Dial . While viewing the Speed-Dial list , you have the following o ptions: • Call: Places a call to the highlighted number in the list.
9 Model 8601 Sof tPhone for Pocket PC User Guide Message(s) When you have received a voice mail message, the display shows, “Y ou have xx mes- sage(s).” (where the xx indicates the number of the message). T o listen to the message: Ta p MSG or select Message(s ) .

13 Model 8601 Sof tPhone for Pocket PC User Guide Sharing an Extension The Model 8601 functions as a single SIP pho ne and as a shared extension . A shared extension allows up to five SIP phones to use the same extension number on the Axxess system. Incoming calls to a shared extension are se nt to SIP phones simulta- neously .
14 Model 8601 Soft Phone for Pocket PC User Guid e Switching Between T wo Calls The Model 8601 can establish up to two simu ltaneou s calls. If the second inc oming call is answered, the first call is placed on hold, and you are connected with the sec- ond caller .
15 Model 8601 Sof tPhone for Pocket PC User Guide Placing Conference Calls Y ou can establish a conference call with up to three intercom and/or out side parties (four , includin g you). T o place a conference call: 1. While on the first call, tap CNF .
16 Model 8601 Soft Phone for Pocket PC User Guid e T ransferring Calls Although transferring calls is considered a basic function of a phone, your Model 8601 has many advanced options for this feature. W ith your phone, you can transfer to another extension or an outside line.
17 Model 8601 Sof tPhone for Pocket PC User Guide Redialing Calls Y ou can redial a call in two methods. The first and simplest method is red ialing the last number dialed; the second method is redialin g a number that is saved in the Call Log. T o redial the last number dialed: Ta p TA L K .
18 Model 8601 Soft Phone for Pocket PC User Guid e Accessing Y our Mailbox If you want to check your voice message from a remote site, you must first access your mailbox. TIP: Ge nerally speaking, tapping during any voice mail operation wil l advance you to the next step.
19 Model 8601 Sof tPhone for Pocket PC User Guide Using V oice Mail Messages Once you’ve accessed you r mailbox, the system will tell you how many ne w and saved messages you have. Y ou can then lis ten to messages, delete messages, save messages, etc.

21 Model 8601 Sof tPhone for Pocket PC User Guide Undeleting Messages If you accidentally delete a voice mail messa ge, you can retrieve it within a specific time frame (programmed by yo ur system administrator). An y retrieved messages are then restored to your saved-message que ue.
