6 INST ALLING YOUR NEW VCR CHECK CONTENTS 1 Make sure the package contains all of the accessories listed in “SPECIFICA TIONS” ( Z pg. 50). SITUA TE VCR 2 Place the VCR on a stable, horizontal surface. CONNECT VCR TO TV 3 The connection method you use depends on the type of TV you have.

10 12 45 3 6 8 0 7 9 SELECT TIME ZONE 5 Y ou can either select “AUT O”, or select the correct zone. If you selected "AUT O" in step 4 and if you live near the boundary of an adjacent time zone, or receive cable TV channels, a PBS channel from a different time zone may become your host channel.

12 T uner Set Receivable Channels TURN ON THE VCR 1 Press POWER . If watching on channel 3 or 4, press TV/ VIDEO to select the VIDEO mode. VIDEO is displayed on the front display panel. ACCESS MAIN MENU SCREEN 2 Press MENU as many times as necessary .
13 PERFORM AUTO CHANNEL SET 6 Place the arrow next to "AUT O CHANNEL SET" by pressing CH 5 ∞ or SHUTTLE PLUS 5 ∞ , then press OK . Receivable channels in your area are automatically assigned to the CH 5 ∞ buttons, and non-receivable channels are skipped.
14 Add Or Delete A Channel ACCESS TUNER SET SCREEN 1 Access by performing steps 2 and 3 of the T uner procedure on page 12. ● T o add a channel, go to step 2 . ● T o delete a channel, skip to step 4 . ACCESS AFC SCREEN 2 Place the arrow next to "AFC" by pressing CH 5 ∞ or SHUTTLE PLUS 5 ∞ , then press OK .
15 This procedure is required if you receive your TV channels through a cable box (descrambler). The Cable Box Controller allows the VCR to automatically switch cable box channels, allowing you to timer -record programs from various cable stations.

17 SELECT CABLE BOX OUTPUT CHANNEL 6 Y our selection depends on how your cable box is connected to your VCR. If your cable box is connected to your VCR using an RF connection . . . . . . press CH 5 ∞ or SHUTTLE PLUS 5 ∞ to place the arrow next to the channel number representing the cable box’ s output (2–6).

19 The VCR Plus+ timer programming system eliminates the need to input channel, date, start and stop time data when setting the timer record function. Simply key in the PlusCode number for the TV program you wish to record (found in most TV listings) and the VCR’ s timer is automatically programmed.
20 ACCESS CUSTOM SET SCREEN 3 Press CH 5 ∞ or SHUTTLE PLUS 5 ∞ to place the arrow next to “CUST OM SET”, then press OK . ACCESS VCR PLUS+ SET -UP SCREEN 4 Press CH 5 ∞ or SHUTTLE PLUS 5 ∞ to place the arrow next to “VCR PLUS+ SET -UP”, then press OK .
21 INPUT RECEIVING CHANNEL NUMBER 7 Press CH 5 ∞ , SHUTTLE PLUS 5 ∞ or the appropriate NUMBER keys to input the number of the channel on which the Guide Channel’ s broadcasts are received. Then press OK . ● If there is more than one mismatch, repeat steps 6 and 7 for each instance.
22 12 45 3 6 8 0 7 9 SIMPLE PLA YBACK AND RECORDING LOAD A CASSETTE 1 Make sure the window side is up, the rear label side is facing you and the arrow on the front of the cassette is pointing towards the VCR. Don’t apply too much pressure when inserting.

24 P AUSE DURING PLA YBACK 1 Press P AUSE . If there is vertical jitter , press CH 5 or ∞ on the VCR's front panel or remote to stabilize the picture.
25 Manual T racking Once playback begins, the VCR’ s automatic tracking function is engaged. If noise appears in the picture, you can override this and make the adjustment manually .
26 Superimpose This function, switchable between ON and OFF , determines whether or not operational indicators will appear on screen. ACCESS MAIN MENU SCREEN 1 Press MENU as many times as necessary . 27 Skip Search Repeat Playback ST ART REPEA T 1 Press and hold PLA Y (until "PLA Y" blinks on the front display panel) during playback, then release. ● The entire tape is played back 20 times. STOP REPEA T 2 T o stop, press STOP at any time.
28 Instant ReV iew At the press of a button, you can power up your VCR, rewind the tape and begin viewing the most recent timer -recorded program. ACTIV A TE INST ANT REVIEW 1 After ensuring that the VCR is off and the T imer mode is disengaged, press REVIEW .
29 COUNT 0:33:27 T ape Position Indicator The T ape position indicator appears on screen when, from the stop mode, you press FF , REW or perform an Index Search or Instant ReV iew . The position of " " in relation to "B" (Beginning) or "E" (End) shows you where you are on the tape.
30 Active V ideo Calibration Y our VCR is equipped with the Active V ideo Calibration feature, which checks the condition of the tape in use during recording and playback, and compensates to provide the highest-possible recording and playback pictures.

36 Instant Timer Recording (ITR) This easy method lets you record for from 30 minutes to 6 hours (selectable in 30-min. increments), and shuts the VCR off after recording is finished. ST ART RECORDING 1 Press REC . ENGAGE ITR MODE 2 Press REC again. ITR blinks and 0:30 appears on the front display panel.

42 Assemble Editing Assemble Editing adds one recorded scene to another in succession. T o use your VCR as the recorder ... LOAD CASSETTES 1 Insert the original cassette in the player , and the recording cassette in the recorder . SET T APE SPEED 2 Set to "SP" or "EP" by pressing the SP/EP button on the remote control.
43 SPECIAL FEA TURES TV Multi-Brand Remote Contr ol The VCR's remote control can control several functions on JVC remote control TVs and on the brands of remote control TVs listed below .
44 Cable Box Multi-Brand Remote Contr ol The VCR's remote control can control functions on the brands of cable boxes listed below . Some cable box brands have more than one code. If your cable box does not function with a specified code, try other codes.
45 Contr ol T wo JVC VCRs The supplied remote control is capable of controlling two JVC VCRs independently using the A/B CODE switch. Y ou can set this VCR so it responds to remote commands only when the switch is set to B , and another VCR so it responds to commands when the switch is set to A .
46 TROUBLESHOOTING Before requesting service for a problem, use this chart and see if you can repair the trouble yourself. Small problems are often easily corrected, and this can save you the trouble of sending your VCR off for repair . POWER POSSIBLE CAUSE ● The power cord is disconnected.
