6 RADIO BASIC OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM). Y ou can select any one of FM1, FM2, and FM3 to listen to an FM station. Selected band appears. T o search stations of lower frequencies. T o search stations of higher frequencies.
7 ENGLISH 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM) y ou want to store stations into . 2 Press and hold both buttons for more than 3 seconds. Local stations with the strongest signals are searched and stored automatically in the band you ha ve selected (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM).
8 Manual preset Y ou can preset up to 6 stations in each band (FM1, FM2, FM3 and AM) manually . EXAMPLE: Storing an FM station of 88.3 MHz into the preset number 1 of the FM1 band 1 Select the FM1 band. 2 T une into a station of 88.3 MHz. See page 6 to tune into a station.
9 ENGLISH T uning into a preset station Y ou can easily tune into a preset station. Remember that you must store stations first. If you have not stored them yet, see pages 7 and 8. 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM) y ou want. 2 Select the n umber (1 – 6) f or the preset station y ou w ant.
10 1 Open the control panel. If there is already a CD or an MD inside the unit, it ejects automatically . Playing a CD 1 Note on One-T ouch Operation: When a CD is already in the loading slot, pr essing MD/CD turns on the unit and starts playback automatically .

12 Selecting CD playback modes T rack number of the currently pla ying track RND SCAN MO RPT SCAN/RND T o play back tracks at random (Random Play) Y ou can pla y back all tr acks on the CD at random. Each time y ou press SCAN/RND (Scan/Random) while playing a CD , CD r andom play mode turns on and off alter nately .
13 ENGLISH T rack number of the currently playing tr ack T o play back only intros (Intr o Scan) Each time you press INT (Intro) briefly while playing a CD , CD intro scan mode tur ns on and off alternately . When the intro scan mode is turned on, “INTR O” appears on the display for 5 seconds and the trac k n umber flashes.
14 Playing an MD 1 MD OPERA TIONS 1 2 1. Inser t an MD into the loading slot. The unit turns on, draws the MD and star ts pla yback automatically . 2. Close the control panel by hand. Open the control panel. If there is already a CD or an MD inside the unit, it ejects automatically .

17 ENGLISH T rack number of the currently playing tr ack INT T o cancel the prohibition and “unlock” the MD, press and hold again f or more than 2 seconds , while holding MD/CD.
18 SOUND OFF BEA T SOFT POP SOUND Selecting preset sound contr ol modes Y ou can select a preset sound adjustment suitable to the music genre. Call up the sound control mode y ou w ant.

When shipped from the factory , the level indicator on the display shows the audio level setting. • NORMAL: Audio level indicator • PEAK: Peak level indicator • OFF: V olume le vel indicator 1.
25 ENGLISH EU US Changing the AM/FM channel inter vals When this unit is shipped from the factory , the channel inter vals are set to 10 kHz f or AM and 200 kHz for FM (US settings). Y ou will hav e to change the channel inter v als when using this unit in an area other than North Amer ica and South America.
26 Adjusting the contrast level Y ou can adjust the displa y contrast lev el (among 1 to 10). When shipped from the factor y , the display contrast level is at level 5. 1. Press and hold SEL (Select) for more than 2 seconds so that “PSM” appears on the lower par t of the display .
27 ENGLISH Controlling the volume automatically (Audio Cruise Mode) Y ou can select the proper cruise mode for y our car . This unit changes the volume lev el automatically (at 3 possib le lev els) based on the dr iving speed of your car by detecting the alternator’ s generating frequency (Audio Cruise).
28 T o adjust the volume increase rate If you find Audio Cr uise increase (or decrease) the volume either too much or too little as the driving speed changes, you can adjust the increase r ate by changing the boost lev el. T o change it, f ollow the procedure below .
29 ENGLISH Assigning names to the sources Y ou can assign names to station frequencies, CDs and the e xternal component connected to the LINE IN plugs.

32 How to detach the contr ol panel Before detaching the control panel, be sure to turn off the pow er. 1 Unlock the control panel. 2 Pull the control panel out of the unit. 3 Put the detached control panel into the provided case. How to attach the control panel 1 Insert the left side of the control panel into the g roo v e on the panel holder .
33 ENGLISH REMOTE OPERA TIONS Before using the remote controller: • Aim the remote controller directly at the remote sensor on the main unit. Make sure there is no obstacle in between. • Do not expose the remote sensor to strong light (direct sunlight or ar tificial lighting).
34 Using the r emote controller 1 Functions the same as the button on the main unit. 2 • Functions as the BAND button while listening to the radio. Each time y ou press the button, the band changes. • Functions as the DISC + button while listening to the CD changer .
35 ENGLISH CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS We recommend that you use one of the CH-X ser ies (ex: CH-X1200) with your unit. If you have another type of CD automatic changer , consult your JVC car audio dealer f or connections.

38 Playing the CD T ext The following operations are possible only when a CD changer compatible with CD T ext is connected (ex.: CH-X1200). In a CD T e xt, some inf or mation about the disc (its disc title , performer and track title) is recorded. Y ou can show these disc information on the display .
39 ENGLISH EXTERNAL COMPONENT OPERA TIONS 1 Select the external component. Each time you press the button, you can select the CD automatic changer and the e xter nal component alternately . 2 T ur n on the connected device and start playing the source.
40 COMPACT DIGITAL AUDIO Center holder MAINTENANCE Handling Discs T aking care of CDs This unit has been designed only to reproduce the CDs bearing the or mar k. Other discs cannot be played back. How to handle CDs When removing a CD from its case, press down the center holder of the case and lift the CD out, holding it by the edges.
41 ENGLISH T aking car e of MDs Since the disc is accommodated inside a cartridge, it can be handled easily without caring about dust and dir t. Howe ver , to maintain the high audio quality for an e xtended period, use care in the following points. Disc storage Do not place the MD in following places.
42 Causes CD is inserted upside down. Y ou are driving on rough roads. The disc is scratched. Connections are incorrect. The volume control is turned to the minimum level. Connections are incorrect. “P . AMP (P ower Amplifier) ” is not set correctly .
43 ENGLISH Causes An error occurs while playing a CD or an MD . Y ou have inserted a blank disc. Y ou have pressed MD/CD when there was no CD or MD inside the unit. Y ou have pressed DISP with a disc for which no name w as assigned. The temperature inside the unit becomes very high.
