6 ENGLISH Preparing the remote controller Before using the remote controller: • Aim the remote controller directly at the remote sensor on the main unit. Make sure there is no obstacle in between. • Do not expose the remote sensor to strong light (direct sunlight or artificial lighting).

8 ENGLISH RADIO OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio Y ou can use either automatic searching or manual searching to tune in to a par ticular station. Searching for a station automatically: Auto search 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM). Note: This r ecei ver has three FM bands (FM1, FM2, and FM3).
9 ENGLISH Storing stations in memor y Y ou can use one of the f ollo wing methods to store broadcasting stations in memor y . • Automatic preset: SSM (Strong-station Sequential Memory) • Manual preset • Storing your favorite station into the EX button Automatic preset: SSM Y ou can preset 6 local stations in each FM band (FM1, FM2, and FM3).
10 ENGLISH T uning in to a preset station Y ou can easily tune in to a preset station. Remember that you must store stations first. If you have not stored them yet, see page 9. 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3, or AM) you want. 2 Select the number (1 – 6) f or the preset station you want.
11 ENGLISH Other convenient tuner functions Scanning broadcast stations 1 Select “ SCAN. ” * When receiving an FM stereo broadcast. 2 Star t scanning. Each time a broadcast is tuned in, scanning stops for about 5 seconds (tuned frequency number flashes on the displa y), and you can check what program is no w being broadcasted.
12 ENGLISH CD OPERA TIONS Playing a CD 1 Insert a disc into the loading slot. The unit turns on, dra ws a CD and starts playbac k automatically . Current tr ack T otal playing time of the inser ted .
13 ENGLISH Press ¢ briefly while playing a CD , to go ahead to the beginning of the ne xt trac k. Each time you press the b utton consecutively , the beginning of the next tr ac ks is located and played back. Press 4 briefly while playing a CD , to go back to the beginning of the current trac k.
14 ENGLISH Selecting CD playback modes T o play back tracks repeatedly (Repeat Play) Y ou can play back the current tr ack repeatedly . 1 Press MODE repeatedly until “ REPEA T ” appears. 2 Press SEL. Each time y ou press the button, CD repeat pla y mode turns on ( “ REPEA T ON ” ) and off ( “ REPEA T OFF ” ) alternately .
15 ENGLISH Prohibiting CD ejection Y ou can prohibit the CD ejection and can “ lock ” a CD in the loading slot. While pressing CD/CH, press and hold CD 0 for more than 2 seconds . “ CD ” flashes on the displa y f or a while , and the CD is locked and cannot be ejected.
16 ENGLISH What is MP3? MP3 is an ab breviation of Motion Picture Experts Group (or MPEG) Audio La y er 3*. MP3 is simply a file f or mat with a data compression ratio of 1:10 (128 Kbps**). That means , by using MP3 for mat, one CD-R or CD-RW can contain 10 times as much data v olume as a regular CD can.

20 ENGLISH T o go to a particular director y directly IMPORT ANT : T o directly select the directories using the n umber b utton(s), it is required that directories are assigned 2 digit n umbers at the beginning of their directory names. (This can only be done during the recording of CD-Rs or CD- RW s .
21 ENGLISH T o play back tracks at random (Random Play) 1 Press MODE repeatedly until “ RANDOM ” appears. 2 Press SEL. Each time y ou press the b utton, r andom pla y mode changes as f ollo ws: Mode RND Pla ys at random Indicator RANDOM1 ON Lights All files of the current directory , then the files of the next directory , and so on.
22 ENGLISH T APE OPERA TIONS Listening to a tape Y ou can play back type 1 (normal) tapes. 1 Insert a cassette into the cassette compartment. The unit turns on and tape pla y star ts automatically . When one side of the tape reaches its end during play , the other side of the tape automatically star ts playing.
23 ENGLISH T o stop play and eject the cassette Press T APE 0 . T ape play stops and the cassette automatically ejects from the cassette compar tment. If you change the source, the tape pla y also stops (without ejecting the cassette this time). • Y ou can also eject the cassette by pressing T APE 0 with the unit tur ned of f.

ENGLISH 25 SOUND ADJUSTMENTS Reinforcing the bass sound Y ou can also adjust the level of Super Bass . 1 Select “ S.BASS. ” 2 Adjust the le vel within the rang e of “ 00 ” to “ 08. ” Adjusting the sound Y ou can adjust the sound characteristics to y our preference.

ENGLISH 29 OTHER MAIN FUNCTIONS About the demonstration mode (DEMO MODE) When shipped from the factory , “ DEMO ” is set to “ DEMO ON ” in this unit. The demonstration will star t automatically if no sound comes in for 3 minutes. (See page 31.
30 ENGLISH Changing general settings (PSM) Y ou can change the settings for this unit by using the PSM (Preferred Setting Mode) control. Basic Procedure • There is a time limit in doing the f ollowing procedure. If the setting is canceled bef ore y ou finish, star t from step 1 again.

ENGLISH 33 Assigning names to the sources Y ou can assign names to station frequencies, CDs, and the e xter nal component connected to the auxiliar y (A UX) input jac k. After assigning a name, it will appear on the display when you select the source.
34 ENGLISH EXTERNAL COMPONENT OPERA TIONS Y ou can connect two external components to this unit. Connect one to the auxiliar y (A UX) input jac k on the control panel, and the other to the CD changer jac k on the rear .
ENGLISH 35 CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS We recommend that you use one of the CH-X ser ies with y our unit. If you have another CD automatic changer , consult your JVC car audio dealer for connections . • F or example, if your CD automa tic changer is one of the KD-MK series, y ou need a cor d (KS-U15K) for connecting it to this unit.

38 ENGLISH Handling cassettes The cassette dec k built in this unit requires very little attention, but y ou will be able to extend the lif e of the cassette dec k if you f ollow the instructions right column.
ENGLISH 39 The function below is also provided to ensure the longer life of the cassette dec k. Ignition key-off release When you tur n off the ignition ke y with a cassette in the compar tment, the unit automatically releases the tape from its head.
40 ENGLISH TROUBLESHOOTING What appears to be troub le is not alw ays serious. Check the f ollowing points bef ore calling a service center. Symptoms • Sound is sometimes interrupted. • Sound cannot be heard from the speakers . • This unit does not work at all.
ENGLISH 41 Symptoms • Disc cannot be pla yed back. • Files skip , or 00 ’ 00 ” appears and pla ybac k stops . • Noise is gener ated. • A longer readout time is required ( “ FILE CHECK ” keeps flashing on the displa y). • Files cannot be pla y ed back as y ou hav e intended them to pla y .
