2 Introduction 7 Important cautions Installation of the system • Select a place which is le vel, dry and neither too hot nor too cold; between 5 ° C and 35 ° C. • Leav e suff icient distance betw een the sy stem and the TV . • Do not use the system in a place su bject to vibration.
3 About discs This system has been designed to play back the following discs: D VD VIDEO, DVD A UDIO, V ideo CD (VCD), Super V ideo CD (SVCD), Audio CD (CD), CD-R and CD-R W . • This system accommodates the NTSC and P AL s ystem. When you play an NTSC disc with the scan mode set to “ PA L ” ( A pg.
About discs 4 Notes on MP3/WMA/JPEG/MPE G4 discs • MP3/WMA/JPEG/MPEG4 discs (either CD-R or CD-R W) require a longer readout time. (It dif fers due to the complexity of the directory/file configuratio n.) • When making an MP3/WMA/JPEG/MPEG4 disc, select ISO 9660 Lev el 1 or Lev el 2 for the disc format.

CAUTION • Do not expose batteries to heat or flame. Operating the system from the remote control Aim the remote control directly to the front panel of the center unit.
8 Connections 7 AM loop antenna Setting up sup plied AM loop antenn a Connecting AM l oop antenna • T urn the loop antenna until you hav e the best reception during AM broadcast program reception. NOTE • Make sure the antenna conductors do not touch any other terminals, connecting cords and power cords.
Connections 9 The following procedur e explains the front speaker assemb ly . The assembly of both the front and surround speakers ar e done in the same manner . NOTE • The stands and the base plates are commonly used fo r both front and surround speakers assembly.
Connections 10 CAUTION • When you connect speak ers other than the supplied ones, use speakers of the same speaker impedance (SPEAKER IMPED ANCE) indicated near the speaker terminals on the rear of the po wered subwoofer . • DO NOT connect more than one speaker to one speaker terminal.

Connections 12 NOTE • Although the satellite speakers and the powered subwoofer are magnetically shielded, the TV screen may appear mottled. In this case, keep enough distanc e between the speakers and the TV. • The speakers are magnetically shielded to avoid color distortions on TVs.
Connections 13 Y ou can enjoy the sound of an analog component. NOTE • The signals input to the VIDEO VCR IN jack will be output only from the VIDEO OUT jack, not from the S-VIDEO OUT jack.
14 Operating external components with the remote control NOTE • Manufacturers ’ codes are subject to change without notice. • Set the codes again after replacing the batteries of the remote control. 7 To set the manufact urer’s code Y ou can operate a JVC TV without setting the manufacturer ’ s code.

Basic operations 17 On the remote contro l: Press one of the source selecting buttons (DVD, FM/AM, VCR or DBS). DV D : T o play back a disc (D VD VIDEO, VCD etc.). ( A pg. 20) FM/AM : T o tune in an FM or AM station. ( A pg. 39) Each time you press the button, the band alternates between FM and AM.
Basic operations 18 The system turns of f automatically when the specified period of time has passed. Press SLEEP. Each time you press the button, the shut-of f time changes. Example: To check the remaining time Press SLEEP once. To change the remaining time Press SLEEP r epeatedly .

Playback 22 7 Screen saver A TV screen may burn out if a static picture is displayed for a long time. T o preve nt this, the system automat ically dims the scre en if a static picture is displayed for o ver 5 minutes (th e screen sa ver function). • Pressing any b utton will cancel the screen saver function.

Advanced operations 25 7 All Channel Stereo (DSP) All Channel Stereo (ALL CH ST .) mode can reproduce a larger stereo sound fi eld using all the connected (and activ ated) speakers. All Channel Stereo can be used while reproducing 2 channel stereo source.

Advanced operations 27 Y ou can start playing a title, chapter or track you specify . Y ou can also play a disc from specif ied time. Locating a desired scene from the DVD menu D VD VIDEOs generally ha ve their own menus which show disc contents and you can display them on the TV screen.

Advanced operations 34 Repeating a desired part [A-B Repeat] Y ou can repeat playback of a desired part by specifying the beginning (point A) and ending (point B). 7 During playback When using the A-B RPT button: 1 Press A-B RPT at the beginning of the part you want to repeat (point A).

Some countries space AM stations 9 kHz apart, and other countries use 10 kHz spacing. • 9 kHz interv al spacing is the initial se tting.
T uner operations 40 Once a station is assigned to a channel number , the station can be quickly tuned in. Y ou can preset 30 FM and 15 AM stations. 7 To preset the stations 1 Tune in the station you want to preset. • If you want to store the FM reception mode for an FM station, select the reception mode you want.
41 A V COMPU LINK remote control system The A V COMPU LINK remote control system allo ws you to operate JVC TVs and VCRs through the center unit. This system is equipped with the A V COMPU LINK-III, which adds a function to operate JVC ’ s video components via the video components terminals.
42 References 7 Handling Discs • Remove the disc from its case by holding it at the edge while pressing the center hole lightly . • Do not touch the shin y surface of the disc or bend the disc. • Put the disc back in its case after use to prev ent warping.
