– 6 – Getting Started Unpacking After unpacking, check to be sure that you ha ve all the follo wing items. The number in the parentheses indicates the quantity of the pieces supplied.
– 7 – MAIN SPEAKER SUBWOOFER 4-8 [ ] 6-16 [ ] RR LL 1 Pr ess and hold the clamp of the AM terminals on the r ear of the unit. 2 Insert the end of the AM loop antenna cord into the terminal. 3 Release the f inger from the clamp. 4 T urn the AM loop antenna until y ou hav e the best r eception.
– 8 – T o audio output A UX IN Audio equipment Connecting Other Equipment • DO NO T connect any equipment while the po wer is on. • DO NO T plug in any equipment until all connections are complete. T o connect the TV Connect your TV and this unit using the composite video cord (supplied) or an S-video cord (not supplied).
– 9 – CANCEL /DEMO CANCEL /DEMO DIGIT AL OUT OPTICAL [ ] T o connect audio equipment with an optical digital input terminal — such as digital decoder Y ou can connect a digital decoder or MD recorder by using an optical digital cord (not supplied).
– 10 – Common Operations T urning On and Off the Power T o turn on the unit, press ST ANDBY/ON so that the ST ANDBY lamp goes of f. • When the unit is turned on, the D VD VIDEO lamp on the unit lights up. T o turn off the unit (on standby), press ST ANDBY/ON again so that the ST ANDBY lamp lights up.
– 11 – Adjusting the V olume Y ou can adjust the volume le vel only while the unit is turned on. T urn the V OLUME control clockwise to incr ease the volume or counterclockwise to decr ease it. • The volume le vel can be adjusted in 32 steps (V OL MIN, V OL 1 — V OL 30, and V OL MAX).
– 12 – Selecting the Sound Modes This function only af fects the playback sound, but does not af fect your recording. Y ou can select one of the 6 preset sound modes (3 surround modes and 3 SEA — Sound Ef fect Amplifier — modes). T o select the sound modes, turn the SOUND MODE control until the sound mode you want appears on the display .
– 13 – Listening to FM and AM Broadcasts T uning in a Station 1 Pr ess FM/AM. The unit automatically turns on and tunes in the pre viously tuned station (either FM or AM). • Each time you press the button, the band alternates between FM and AM. 2 Start searching f or stations.
– 14 – Disc Introduction—DVD/VCD/CD • On some D VD or VCD discs, their actual operations may be different fr om what is explained in this manual.
– 15 – Basic Disc Operations Loading Discs 1 Pr ess 0 . The unit automatically turns on and the carrousel comes out. 2 Place one or two discs corr ectly on the front slots of the carr ousel, with its label side up. • When using a CD single (8 cm), place it on the inner circle of the disc tray .
– 16 – When playing back CDs and VCD without PBC function, all loaded discs can be played continuously When 3 discs are loaded on the disc trays, they are played in one of the follo wing sequences.
– 17 – DVD Playback 3 3 3 1 : Disc type 2 : Current title and total number of the titles on the disc • Ex.: 1st title is playing out of 3 titles recorded. 3 : Current chapter and total number in the current title • Ex.: 1st chapter is playing out of 5 chapters in the current title.
– 18 – Selecting the Multi-Angle Views While playing a disc containing multi-angle vie ws, you can view the same scene a t different angles. On the r emote control ONL Y : T o select the subtitle language, press ANGLE r e peatedly . • Each time you press the button, the vie w angle changes.
– 19 – Disc Menu-Driven Playback Disc menu-dri ven playback is possible while playing back a D VD with menus. • When operating a disc using the disc menu, refer also to the instructions supplied with the disc. D VD discs generally have their o wn menus or title lists.
– 20 – 7 7 7 7 7 A-B Repeat While playing, you can also select a portion you want to repeat. • A-B repeat is not performed between different titles. 1 Press A-B REPEA T to select the start point. “RPT . A–” appears on the TV screen. • “RPT A–” also appears on the display .
– 21 – Programming the Playing Order of the Chapters—Program Play Y ou can arrange the chapter playback order before you start playing. Y ou can program up to 20 steps. • Bef ore making a pr ogram, make sure that the TV is turned on and the corr ect input is selected on the TV .
– 22 – T o modify the program Y ou can modify the program while the PR OGRAM MENU screen is sho wn on the TV screen. T o erase a step: press Cursor ∞ (or 5 ) to select (highlight) an unwanted program step, then press CLEAR.

– 29 – Setting the DVD Preference (System) Y ou can set the D VD preference to match it to your usage and operating circumstances. On the system setting menu, you can set the follo wing: VIDEO OUTPUT : Y ou can select the video output jack on the rear to use.
– 30 – Setting the Parental Lock Using this function, you can restrict playback of D VD containing violent scenes and those not suitable for your family members. Nobody can play such a disc unless this function is canceled. (“P ARENT AL LEVEL” appears on the display if you try to play back such a disc.
– 31 – Playing Back T apes Playing Back a T ape Y ou can play back only type I tape. 1 Pr ess EJECT ( 0 ) for the deck y ou want to use. 2 Put a cassette in with the exposed part of the tape down. 3 Close the cassette holder gently . If you put cassettes in both decks A and B, the last deck which you hav e put a cassette into is selected.
– 32 – Recording Recording a T ape on Deck B On the unit ONL Y : 1 Press EJECT 0 f or the deck B. 2 Put a recordable cassette in with the e xposed part of the tape down. 3 Close the cassette holder gently . 4 Check the tape direction of deck B. • If the tape direction is not correct, press T APE 2 3 twice then 7 to change the tape direction.
– 33 – CD Synchronized Recording Y ou can easily r ecord a disc onto a tape. • Y ou can also record the tracks in order you have made the program. On the unit ONL Y : 1 Put a recordable cassette into deck B. 2 Place a disc correctl y on the circle of the disc tray , with its label side up.
