7 Getting started Connections • Do not connect the A C power cord until all other connections ha ve been made . • Since differ ent components often have different terminal names, car efully read the instructions supplied with the component you are going to connect.

9 NO TES: • Disconnect the supplied FM antenna bef ore attaching a 75 Ω coaxial connector (the kind with a round wire going to an outdoor antenna). • W e recommend that you use a coaxial cable (not supplied) to the FM antenna, since it is w ell-shielded against interference.

11 CA UTION: • When you do not use the supplied speakers but connect other (larger) speakers, use the speakers with the SPEAKER IMPEDANCE indicated by the speaker terminals on the rear panel of the center unit. • DO NOT connect more than one speaker to one speaker terminal.
12 Installing the satellite speaker s on the wall Using the supplied satellite speaker wall brackets, you can fix the surr ound speakers on the wall. CA UTION: When attaching the brackets on the wall, have them attached on the wall by a qualified person.

15 Using the remote contr ol Putting batteries in the remote contr ol Before using the r emote control, put in two supplied batteries first. 1 On the back of the remote control, remove the battery cover . 2 Insert batteries. • Make sure to match the polarity: (+) to (+) and (–) to (–).
16 Operating a TV using the remote contr ol Y ou can operate your TV using the remote control. • Refer also to the instruction manuals supplied with your TV . Manufacturers ’ codes for TV * Manufacturers’ codes are subject to change without notice.
17 Basic operations This section mainly explains common basic operations. • T ur n on your TV and select the correct input mode on the TV if necessary . T urning on the system Press AUDIO on the remote control or (standby/on) on the center unit. The ST ANDBY lamp goes off and the last selected source activates.
18 Adjusting the v olume Y ou can adjust the volume level within the range of “0” (minimum) to “70” (maximum). Press VOLUME +/ – . • Press + to incr ease the volume. • Press – to decr ease the volume. The volume level appears on the display .
19 T urning off the power with the sleep timer Using the sleep timer , you can fall asleep while listening to music. From the remote control ONL Y : Press SLEEP . 22 1 Press FM/AM repeatedly to select the band. Each time you press the button, the band alternates between FM and AM (MW). The selected band appears on the display , then the last received station appears. Ex.: When AM is selected 2 Press TUNING UP or DOWN repeatedly until you find the frequency you want.
23 3 Press the number buttons (1 – 10, +10) to select a channel number while the channel number position is flashing. The channel number and the CH indicator start flashing. Ex.: • For channel number 3, press 3. • For channel number 14, press +10 then 4.
24 Using the RDS (Radio Data System) to receive FM stations RDS allows FM stations to send an additional signal along with their regular pr ogram signals. For example, the stations send their station names, as well as information about what type of program they br oadcast, such as sports or music, etc.

27 How the Enhanced Other Netw orks function actually w orks: CASE 1 If there is no station broadcasting the program you have selected The system continues tuning in to the current station. « When a station starts broadcasting the program you have selected, the system automatically switches to the station.
28 Basic settings Some of the following settings are r equired after connecting and positioning your speakers, while others will make operations easier . • Y ou can also set following speakers setting using the choice menu except “EX/ES” and “PHASE” (see pages 59 and 60).

35 Using Surr ound mode The system is so set up in its initial state that it automatically selects the optimal surround mode for each input signal — auto surround mode. Only when you want to change a surround mode selected automatically , per form the following procedure.

39 Locating a par ticular scene fr om the disc menu Using the disc menu, you can start playing a title, chapter , or track you specify . Locating a particular scene from the D VD menu DVD discs generally have their own menus which show the disc contents.
