QuickPan III / IV Panoramic T ripod Head Ov er vie w Thank you f or purchasing a Kaidan QuickPan III / IV Panoramic T ripod Head. This manual is designed to help you understand ho w to use your QuickPan III / IV to create quality panoramas.
The QuickPan III / IV Family T win-Axis Adapter The T win-Axis Adapter is designed to support most digital and film cameras that are equipped with fishey e lenses, or will appeal to those users who de- sire tw o independent axes of adjustment. It can be used with either the Standard Camera Brack et or with the Compact Camera Brack et.
QuickPan III Rotator Base Installing Indexing Rings 1) Slide the Indexi ng Ring onto the Rotator Base from the bot- tom, keeping the portion of the Indexing Ring with the degree label facing up until it makes contact with the brass plunger . The brass plunger will eventu- ally snap into the hole that is in the side of the Indexing Ring.
QuickPan IV Rotator Base Installing Detent Discs 1) T o install or change the Detent Discs simply loosen the silver thumbscr ew on the side of the black Rotator Hub by turning it in a counter clockwise direction. Do not remov e the screw , just turn sev eral times.
QuickPan III / IV Rotator Base T ripod threaded bushing adapter The QuickPan III / IV Rotator Bases comes with a tripod adapter bushing which ac- commodates both 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch tripod mounts.
Standar d Camera Brack et - Camera Mounting Mounting your camera on the Standar d Camera Br ac k et T o mount your camera, first select the appr opriate slot in the V er tical Camera Brack et that will best locate the tripod mounting thread on your camera.
Mounting your camera on the Spherical Brack et The Spherical Camera Mounting Brack et has a rotating swing arm which is held into position by large black locking knob. The knob allows you to position the arm and y our camera from plus 90 degr ees to minus 90 degrees .
Camera Mounting - Standar d Camera Brack et Mounting your camera on the camer a brack ets For the Standar d Camera Bracket, shown at right, select the appropriate slot in the brack et that will best locate the tripod mounting thread on y our particular camera.

QuickPan-L Rotator The QuickPan-L is a unique model which has three concentric rings of 24, 18 and 14 positions. There are thr ee corresponding plunger positions in the rotator ca p. Y ou can mov e the plunger from one position to another and select any one of the thr ee ro ws.
Nodal P oint This is one of the most frequentl y ask ed questions when it comes to stitcher -based panorama cr eation. Once you understand the basics, you’ll be able to easil y locate the nodal point for an y camera and lens combination. Simply put, the nodal point is the point inside your camera wher e the light ra ys conv erge and flip ov er .
Nodal P oint (continued) Step 2: Fore-Aft Adjustment This step is most easily accomplished out of doors. Find a vertical edge or line, such as a doorwa y or edge of a building. Position y our camera and tripod about 2-1/2 feet a wa y , or as close as possible with the edge still in focus when y ou look through the viewfinder .
Nodal P oint (continued) comes to the For e-Aft adjustment, you w on’ t be able to look through the viewfinder to determine the proper setting since the vie wfinder is a separate optical path that doesn’ t really “see” the same image as the film.
Shooting Panoramas How much Ov erlap? The amount you turn the camera f or each shot varies. It is dependent on a number of factors such as the field of view (the angle) of your camera and lens, as well as which program y ou intend to use.
Shooting Panoramas (contin ued) How do I begin? stairstepping of images as you pr ogress around the panorama. Stairstepping has nothing to do with the state of the entire head being lev el with respect to the horizon. This can be corr ected by rotating all the images a slight amount in your authoring program.
