4 Introduction ............... Unpacking your CR-4 When you first open the packing for your CR- 4, you should f ind the followin g (as well as t his manual): •T h e C R - 4 i t s e l f • An AC power adapter • Y our warranty card and other service infor- mation.

6 Finding your way around the CR-4 Use this “r oad map” as a quick guide to find important features of your CR-4. Speakers: turn these on and of f with t he rear panel switch. Y ou can also use headphones as an alterna- tive monitoring met hod. Stereo head- phones go in here Ampworks ef f ect.
7 Setting up the CR-4 T o use the CR-4, you need to make enough room on a level firm surface for the unit itself, and also leave enough space for connec tions. There ar e two kinds of connections to make (as well as the power connection): the audio con- nections to the CR-4 and the connections from the unit.
8 Setting up the CR-4 Y ou may want to take up any slack in the tape cassette, using a pencil, before you load it into the CR-4. 1 Lift the cassette li d (use your fi ngers— there’s no eject button). 2 Mark the tape with your project (song) name and the date, and add “CR-4” so that you know in the futur e that it ’s a multi- track tape.
9 Making your first recording For this recor ding, let’s assume that you are starting with a bass and drum part on the first two tracks and the drum sou nds will come from a r hythm (drum) machine. The bass guitar wi ll be recor ded on track 1, and the drum part on track 2.
10 Making your first recording 8 When you reach the end of the r hythm track, stop the r hythm machine, pr ess the [P AUSE] button, and then pr ess the [ST OP] button. Rewind the tape to the zero posi- tion (where you started the recor ding). T urn down track 2’s [TRIM] control and disconnect the rhythm mach ine .
Making your first recording 11 ............... Recording a guitar This is almost the same as recor ding the bass. Use track 3 for the guitar part. Un plug the bass from input 1, and connect the guitar to input 3. Adjust the [TRIM] as you did for the bass (and don’t for get to turn down the [TRIM] on tr ack 1).
12 Making your first recording ............... Mixdown For mixdown, it’s a good idea to use speakers, rather than headphones, so turn the speakers back on.
