2 About this manual This manual explains the new functions that have been added in KARMA Music W orkstation system version 2.0, and the improvements that have been made fr om version 1.0. • “Introduction” provides an overview of the major new functions of version 2.
3 Introduction Main features of version 2.0 System version 2.0 adds numerous new featur es to the KARMA music workstation. KARMA function 1. Extended GE suppor t In addition to the 1,190 preset GEs (Generated Ef fects) used to generate phrases and patterns within a KARMA module, system version 2.
4 Sequencer mode 1. “T one Adjust” parameters The “T one Adjust” parameters let you make temporary adjustments to the sound of the Programs used by each track as an edit that is only used for the current song.
5 Introduction Installing the software into the KARMA Music W orkstation In order to upgrade to system version 2.0, you must install the following two types of data into the KARMA music workstation. • System Boot Disk for KARMA Music W orkstation This is the system update data.
6 GE Select In addition to the 1,190 preset GEs (Generated Ef fects) that generate phrases and patterns within each KARMA module, system version 2.0 gives you 320 rewritable user GE memories. In conjunction with this addition, you can now select user GEs in the “GE Select” fields of each mode.
7 KARMA Function K.R TC (KARMA RealTime Controls) System version 2.0 adds a value display function to the K.R TC (KARMA Realtime Controls) page of each mode. K.R TC (KARMA Realtime Controls) appears in the following pages. Program mode PROG 1.1-4 ( ☞ PG p.
8 The display in Combination mode 6.2–3a 6.2–3a: Freeze Randomize In modes where you can use mor e than one KARMA module (Combination, Sequencer , and Song Play modes), use the [ ]/[ ] keys to select the KARMA module for which you want to set the Fr eeze Randomize parameters.
9 KARMA Function (2) “Start Seed”: any value , “Freeze Loop Length”: Of f Each time triggering occurs, the same phrase will be gener- ated. Different “Start Seed” values cause dif ferent phrases to be generated.
10 If the “Start Seed” parameter (6.2-3a ☞ p.8) of the KARMA module for which you execute random capture is assigned as an R T Parameter ( ☞ p.1 1), a message of “Can’t execute random captur e” will be displayed, and random capture will not be executed.
11 KARMA Function “Seed” is the source data fr om which the randomiza- tions are cr eated. The “Seed” of the phrase being looped is automatically set internally within the KARMA module as the “Start Seed.” The “Start Seed” is used each time the GE is triggered.
12 AutoName w/GEchg System version 2.0 adds “AutoName w/GEchg” to the utility menu commands in the Play KARMA and KARMA Setup pages of each mode. “AutoName w/GEchg” (“AutoName GEchg” in Sequencer mode) will appear in the utility menu of the following pages.
13 KARMA Function GE Parameter KARMA Music W orkstation system version 2.0 adds several new GE parameters and GE parameter values. Planned future pr oducts in the EXB-PCM 04/05 are expected to include new programs, combinations, and GE data designed for the KARMA music workstation that will use these parameters.

For example, if the Duration Pattern is generating 16th - 8th at a tempo of 120 BPM , the notes would have the durations of 125 ms , 250 ms , etc. If the “Duration V alue” is 80% , they would be generated as 100 ms , 200 ms , etc.

20 Copy From Comb (Copy from Combination) As described below , system version 2.0 enhances the utility menu command “Copy From Comb” ( ☞ PG p.72) found in the SEQ 1.1-1 page. Also, a “Multi REC Standby” check box has been added to the “Copy From Comb” dialog box.
21 Sequencer mode Quantize - Swing Parameter System version 2.0 adds a “Swing” parameter to the dialog box for the “Quantize” utility menu command ( ☞ PG p.101) of the SEQ 5.2-1: T rack Edit page. Quantize Swing [-300%…+300%] Adds a sense of swing to the rhythm.
22 Global mode RT (Realtime Command) An “R T (Realtime Command)” check box has been added to GLOBAL 2.1-1a: MIDI Setup ( ☞ PG p.137). RT (RealTime Command) [Off, On] Off (unchecked): MIDI common.
23 Global mode Stop: If “ Start “ has been previously transmitted, the MIDI system realtime message “ Stop ” will be transmitted at the moment you turn off the [KARMA ON/OFF] key .
