1 Introduction American Po w er Conversion Corpo ration (APC) is the leading national and international manufac- turer of state-of- the-art un interru ptible pow er suppl ies, redundan t swi tches, power m anagement soft- ware, an d related equi pment.
2 Connecting Equipment and Power to the UPS S MART - UPS R EAR P ANEL 230V M ODELS 120 V/100V M ODELS 1. Plug in th e battery con nector . 2. Connect equi pment to the UPS. Note: Do not connect a laser printer to the UPS. A laser printer d raws signifi cantly m ore power than other type s of equ ipmen t and may overl oad the UPS.
3 B ASIC C ONNE CTORS Serial Port USB Port Power management s oftware and interface k its can be used wi th th e U PS. Use only interfa ce kits supplied or approv ed by APC. Use the APC supplied cable to connect to the Serial Port. DO NOT use a standard serial interface cable since it is incompatible with the UPS connector.
4 2: O PERA TION S MART - UPS F RONT P ANEL Power On Power Off Load Battery Charge Online The online LED illuminates when the UPS is supplying utilit y power to the con- nected equipment. If the LED is not lit, the UPS is eit her not turned ON, or is sup- plying battery power.
5 AVR Boost This LED illuminates to indicate the UPS is compensating for a low utility voltage. On Battery When the on batter y power LED is lit th e UPS is supp lying battery power to the con nected equipment. Wh en on battery, the UPS sounds an alarm—four beeps ev ery 30 seconds .

8 4: S TO R AG E , M A INT ENA NCE , A ND T R A NSPO RTING Storage Store the UPS covered and positioned as for proper functioning, in a cool, dry location, with the bat- teries fully charged. At -15 t o +30 ° C (+5 to + 86 ° F), charg e the UPS battery every six months.
9 1500VA Model Step 3 Pull the battery module out of the compartment until t he back of the m odule is flush with th e outer edg es of the U PS. Disconn ect the battery conn ector. 1000VA Model Step 3 Disconnect the batter y cable termin als before re moving t he batt er y module fr om the UP S.
10 R EPL ACING THE B ATTERY M ODULE To replace the battery module, reverse th e directions above for Removin g the Front Bezel and Bat- tery M odule . Disconnecting the Battery for Transport Always DISCONNEC T THE BATT ERY before shipp ing in co m pliance w ith U.

12 P ROBLEM AND P OSSI BLE C AUSE S OLUTION T HE OVERLOAD LED IS LIT AND THE UPS EMITS A SUSTAINED ALARM TONE The UPS is overloaded. The conn ected equi pment exceed s the sp ecified “maximu m load” as de- fine d in Spec ifications at the APC w eb site, w ww .
13 P ROBLEM AND P OSSIBLE C AUSE S OLUTION UTILITY CIRCUIT BREAKER T RIPS Utility c ircuit breake r trips during norma l operatio n. 100V mo dels: In order to operate at the f ull VA rating of the 1500VA produ ct, the sup plied 15A pl ug must be replaced with a 20 A plug.
14 Service If the UPS requires s ervice do not return it to the dealer. Ins tead, follow these steps: 1. Revi ew the problem s discussed in the Tr oubleshooti ng section of this manual to eliminate com- mon probl ems . 2. 16 Declaration of Conformity Limited Warranty American Power Conversion (APC) warrants it s products to be free from defects in materials and workmanshi p for a period of two years from th e date of pu rchase. Its obli gation und er this warranty is lim ited to repairin g or replac ing, at its own sole o p- tion, any such defecti ve produ cts.
