2 Use the keyboard to type a few lines of text into the blank document. It doesn ’ t matter w hat y ou typ e . 4 Touch the metal part of the power supply case inside the computer to discharge static electricity. Alw ay s do this bef ore y ou t ouch any parts or i nstall components i nsi de the com puter .
5 Remove the expansion card clip. Grasp t h e c lip handles wit h y our thumb and f oref ing er a nd squeeze . P ull t he c lip straight out. 6P ull out the plastic cover plate behind the expansion slot you want to use, and set the cover plate aside.
7 Remove the card from its static-proof bag. Hol d the car d by its t op edg e to a v oi d t ouching t he connect or on the bottom o f th e card. 8A lign the connector end of the card with the expansion slot.
9P ress the card firmly until the connector is seated. m Don ’ t for ce the car d. If y ou meet a lot o f res istance , pull it out and try a g ai n. m To s ee if the c ard is pr op erl y connected, wi g gle it g ent l y . If it re s ists and sta y s i n pl ace , it ’ s connected.

3 Locate the ID number switch on the back of your SCSI device. 4P ush the ID switch repeatedly until the number you want appears. On s ome S CS I de v ice s , the ID number s witch i s i nsi de a small hole . I nser t a strai ghten ed pap er c lip to pu sh the s witch .
4 Use a SCSI cable to connect the device either to the computer’s SCSI port or to the last SCSI device already in the chain. If the de v ice i s the first or onl y one y ou ’ re connect i ng , use a S C S I s y stem ca b l e to c onn ect it t o the computer ’ s SC S I por t.
5M ake sure that the last (or only) device in the SCSI chain has a terminator. Make sure that no other external SCSI device has a terminator. To ensure ac curate tra nsmis si on of inf ormati on, a termi nator mu st b e at each end o f a SC SI c hai n.
