General produ ct information 3 3.0 G ENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION 3.1 Product / System Description The Liebert XDV cooling system is designed to be a ttached to the top of a co mputer cabinet or rack containing heat dissipating equipment.
General produ ct information 4 3.3 Equipment Inspection Upon arrival of the unit, and before unpacking, veri fy that the labeled equi pment matches the bill of lading.
General produ ct information 5 3.3.2 Unit Handling If possible, tran sport the unit using a forklift or pallet jack. • If using a forklift or pallet ja ck, ensure that the fork tine length is suitable to safely move the packaged unit.
General produ ct information 6 Export Packaging 1. Unbend all metal tabs as indicated in Step 1 in Figure 6 . 2. Remove outer packaging when re ady to install the Liebert XDV. 3. Ke ep the Liebert XDV covered by th e unit bag until removal from pallet.
General produ ct information 7 Removing the Liebert XDV from the Pallet 1. Unfold the unit bag to expose the Liebert XDV. 2. Verify the nameplate information found on the Liebert XDV against the bi ll of lading. If the information does not matc h the product specifi ed, contact your local Liebert sales representative.
Mechanical Considerations 8 4.0 M ECHANICAL C ONSIDERATIONS 4.1 Determining Placement in the Conditioned Sp ace Liebert XDVs should be placed above or on top of the cabinets that generate the greatest amount of heat. If heat loads are dispersed ev enly throug hout the room, the Lieb ert XDV modules may be spread out accordingly.
Mechanical Considerations 9 4.2 Changing the Air Intake Location The Liebert XDV comes from the fact ory with the air intake on the re ar of the unit. If required for your application, this can be changed so th at th e Liebert XDV takes in heated air from the bottom.

Mounting the Liebert XDV 13 5.2 Suspended Mounting Method The Liebert XDV also may be mounted abo ve the cabi net by suspending it either from overhead com- ponents or from Unistruts above the cabinets (see Figures 15 and 16 ). An optional kit availa ble from Liebert will simplify mounting the Li ebert XDV above the computer cabinet.
Mounting the Liebert XDV 14 5.2.1 Suspending the Liebert XDV from Unistrut s The Liebert XDV may be bolted to customer-supplie d Unistruts. The hei ght of the Unistruts above the computer cabinet must be adeq uate to accommodate the combined height of the Liebert XDV and the baffle.

Stackin g may be done eith er during the original system or added later to an existing configuration.
Mounting the Liebert XDV 17 5.3.1 Hanging S t acked Liebert XDVs from Unistrut s Because the upper Liebert XDV in a stacked arrang ement must be positioned farther forward than the lower Liebert XDV, two sets of Unistruts are required. The second set of Unis truts must be installed 9-7/8 in ches (251mm) forward of the first set.
Mounting the Liebert XDV 18 5.3.2 Hanging S t acked Liebert XDVs from the Overhead Structure Because the upper Liebert XDV in a stacked arrang ement must be positioned farther forward than the lower Liebert XDV, the place wh ere the hangers attach to the ov erhead structure must be offset accordingly.

Piping 22 6.4 Hard Piped Connection Sizes Supply piping connection is 1/2" OD copper pipe and return pipi ng connection is 5/8" OD copper. 6.4.1 Holding Charge—Hard-Piped Unit s The Liebert XDV in hard-piped configuration is shipped with a low-pressure holding charge (about 30 psi) of nitrogen to prevent oxidation and moisture.

Piping 24 6.6 Connection Methods—O ne-Shot Connections The assembly and connection means used for piping in the Liebert XD system are the same as those used in conventional refrigera tion systems. Observe all standard practices during installa tion and startup to prevent damage and contamination.
Piping 25 6.6.1 Refrigerant Charge—Pre-Charged Option Liebert XDVs with the pre-charged option are equipped with one-shot connections on the supply and return fittings. These contain a ch arge of R-134a refrigerant un der pressure within the unit. This charge must not be vented.

Check the Liebert XDV to ensure that the unit has no refrigerant leaks.

Electrical 32 7.2 Connecting Low V oltage W iring—Optional Low voltage connections to the Liebert XD V are avail able only on units with the optional condensate detection feature. The low voltag e connections are on the right side o f the electrical connections box, just above the power connections (see Figure 35 ).

Operation 34 9.0 O PERATION The Liebert XDV’s fan controls are on the front of the unit, near the fa ns, for easy acce ss. Each switch controls the operation of one fan (see Figure 36 ). The separate sw itches permit the use of only one fan at a time, reducing the airflow if the Lieb ert XDV’s full cooling capacity is not needed.
Maintenance 35 10.0 M AINTENANCE Minimal maintenance is required to keep the Liebert XDV operatin g a t optimal levels. The unit should be cleaned and checked for damage an d worn parts.
Maintenance 36 10.2.1 Accessing Internal Electrical Component s 1. Disconnect all power inputs. 2. Remove five screws to remove th e front electrical panel cover.
