8 H OW TO A DJUST THE S EAT It is im portant to adj ust the seat to a n optimal he ight for ped aling on the Lifecycle Ex ercise Bik e. Pedaling with the seat too l ow can place ex cessive strai n on the k nees and quadric eps musc les. Pedaling w ith the s eat too high can irritate th e feet, ank les, hips, and k nees.
9 H OW TO A DJUST THE P EDAL S TRA PS The bik e pedal straps keep the user ’ s shoes on th e pedals duri ng a workout. T he straps shou ld fit com fortably, but they also s hould be tig ht enough to pr event shoes from s lipping at an y point in the p edaling ro tation.

W ith this easy-to-us e console, th e user can trac k fitness impr ovement fr o m one workout to the next.

16 MY WORKOUT S is not a workout pr ogram but a f eature that al lows the user t o pre-set up t o seven w ork outs with persona l setup inform ation, such as age or le vel, and then store the wor kouts in the c onsole mem ory. These work outs are accessed wi th an AR RO W key.

20 S PORT T RAINING This program s i m ulates an outd oor cyclin g terrain b y s etting dif ferent hills, or intensit y levels, thr oughout the course. Hi lls #1 and # 2 simulate go ing downhil l. Hill #3 sim ulates riding on a flat road. Hills #4 and above sim ulate clim bing, with each hill matc hing a progress ive degre e of diffic ulty.
21 H EA RT R ATE H ILL TM W ORKOUT This pr ogram cons ists of three hil ls that target t hree heart rate goals: The f irst hill brings the heart rat e to 90 percent of the targ et rate*. The s econd hill increases the rate to 95 perc ent. The third hill matches the target hear t rate.
22 E XTREME H EART R ATE TM W ORKOUT This intense, varied workout is d esigned to hel p more exper ienced users to break through fitness improvem ent plateaus. T he work out alternates bet ween two target heart rate go als as quick ly as poss ible. The eff ect is sim ilar to that of r unning sprints.
23 A EROB ICS T RA INER (C9i ONLY ) In this workout, the M ESSAGE CENT ER continuous ly prom pts the user to switc h between a high pedalin g speed and a lo w pedaling sp eed. These s peed intervals alternate in a pattern th at promotes a “ build-up ” in the inte nsity of the work out, followed b y a “ build-do wn ” in intensi ty.
