Chapter 3 Basics 20 Zooming in or out Depending on the app, you may be able to zoom in to enlarge , or zoom out to r educe the image on the screen. When viewing photos , webpages , mail, or maps, for example, pinch two ngers together to zoom out or s pread them apar t to zoom in.
Chapter 3 Basics 21 The orientation lock icon appears in the status bar when the screen orientation is locked. Y ou can also set the Side Switch to lock the screen orientation instead of silencing sound e ects and notications. Go to Settings > General, and under “Use Side Switch to ,” tap Lock Rotation.

An aler t can appear briey as a banner at the top of the screen, which goes a way if you don ’t r espond to it, or as a notice in the cen ter of the screen that remains until y ou acknowledge it.

Chapter 3 Basics 34 Charge the batt er y: The best wa y to charge the iP ad battery is to connect iPad t o a power outlet using the included cable and USB power adapter . iP ad may also charge slowly when y ou connect it to a USB 2.0 por t on your computer .
4 35 Siri What is Siri? Siri is the intelligent personal assistant tha t helps you get things done just by talking. Siri understands natural speech, so you don’ t have to learn specic c ommands or remember keywords. Y ou can ask things in di erent ways.
Chapter 4 Siri 36 Y ou’ll hear two quick beeps and see “ What can I help you with?” on the screen. Just star t speaking. The microphone icon lights up to let y ou k now that Siri hears y ou talk ing . Once you ’ve started a dialogue with Siri, tap the microphone icon to talk to it again.
