3 CODES The equipment shall be installed in acco rdance with those installation regulations in forc e in the local area where the installation is to be made. These shall be carefully followed in all cases. A uthor ities having jurisdiction shall be consulted befor e installations are made.

5 INLET AND OUTLET CONNECTIONS For ease of ser vice, install unions on the c old water inlet and hot water outlet of the water heater . The cold water inlet connection is located on the lo wer left front side of the water heater . A manual shutoff valve should be installed upstream on the cold wat er source as an isolation device.

7 JACKET ASSEMBL Y Outer Jack et - The out er jacket assembly is c onst ructed from hea vy gauge steel. The ext er ior surface is specially prepared and phosphat e coated to allow application of a multiple coat enamel paint pr ocess. This coating process insures a long life from the jack et assembly .
8 A main power t er minal block is provided for field connection of the branch power supply to the electric water heater . All internal pow er circuits to the immersion heating elements are c onnected to the load side of the main terminal block.
9 The limit is reset by pushing the r ed reset button on the limit. Operation of the limit control usually indicates a major problem with the heating elements or temperature contr ol. Do not contin ue to push the reset m ultiple times. The problem causing the r eset to function must be found and corrected to insur e proper operation.
10 W ARNING: HAZARD OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK - Before opening the electrical access panel to adjust the thermostat or ser vicing the water heater , make sur e the electrical supply to the water heater is turned "OFF". Failure t o do this could result in death, serious bodily injur y or propert y damage.
11 W ARNING: SHOULD O VERHEA TING O CCUR OR THE TEMPERA TURE CONTROLS F AIL TO SHUT OFF , TURN OFF OR DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL SUPPL Y A T THE MAIN POWER DISCONNECT , EXTERN AL TO THE APPLIANCE. DANGER • W ater temperature over 125°F (51.7°C) can cause severe burns instantly or death from scald.

13 NOTE: The cold water supply m ust be left in the open position when the water heater is in use. 5. Check the near by hot water faucet t o verify that air is exiting the tank as it fills with water . Allow wate r to run until a constant flo w is obtained at the faucet.
14 SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE 1. T urn off the main electr ical power t o the water heater . If the power disc onnect point is out of sig ht, lock it in the open ("OFF") position and tag to prev ent unexpected application of power . 2. T urn the valve in the water heat er's cold water supply to the closed or "OFF" position.
Scale accumulation in the bott om of the storage tank may be remo ved by turning off main power and draining the tank. Once all wate r is remo ved, the hand hole access can be remo ved. This w ill allow large ac cumulations of scale to be cleaned from the bottom of the tank.
Revision Notes: Revision 2 (ECO #C02870) reflects the addition of the scald char t on page 10. CP -5M-1/09-Printed in U.S.A. 16 7. Clean remaining gask et recess on eac h screw-in element flange. Do not reuse element gask ets. 8. Install a new gask et on each element.
