Fundamentals 4 Fundamentals T urning the T riton on 1. Press and hold the power button until the T riton splash screen is displayed. T urning the T riton off When turning off the T riton you can select to have it shutdown or go into suspend mode. 1. Press the Power button and the T riton will begin the shutdown sequence.

Navigation Screens 11 Navigation Scr eens The Magellan T riton has six navigation screens and a Satellite Status screen. The Navigation scree ns provide you with information to assist you in your journeys.
Navigation Screens 12 The pan cursor (target icon) can be moved to any posi tion on the map by using the cursor control. A small red dot around the cursor indi cates the direction to your present position. The pan cursor is used for adding waypoin ts to the map or creating a go to route from your present position to a spot on the map.
Navigation Screens 13 Current Location Screen The Current Loca tion screen contains information about your present position as well as the distanc e a nd bearing to your next waypoint destination if there is an active route being used.
Navigation Screens 14 Resetting Maximum Speed 1. While viewing the Speedometer screen, pres s MENU . 2. Select Reset Speed . 3. The Speedometer screen is displayed with the maximu m and average speeds reset to zero.
Navigation Screens 15 5. An arrow is displayed outside the compass ring. Rotate the T riton, keeping the arrow pointed towards you. The center of the compass will beg in to add red segments indica ting the calibration progress. When the inner portion of the compass is red, the rotation portion of the calibration is complete.
Navigation Screens 16 The Satellite Status Screen The Satellite Status Screen graphically displays the satellites and their signal strength that is being used to compute your location. This s creen shows when you are getting strong, weak, or poor signal recep tion.
Navigation Screens 17 Explanation of Data Field T ypes Latitude (LA T) Latitude is the coordinate measurement of North and South. The la titude lines run parallel to the equator . They range from 0° (th e Equator) to 90° N/S (the Poles) Longitude (LON) Longitude is the coordinate measurement of East a nd West.
Navigation Screens 18 Cross T rack Error (XTE) Cross T rack Error measures how far the user is off the trail or route. If no Go T o or Route is set, this will appear blank or dashes. Elevation Elevation measures the height abo ve or below Sea Level which is 0.
Using the Keyboard 19 Using the Keyboar d Entering alphanumeric c haracters into the Magellan T riton is done by the use of the keyboa rd. Key Types Color Sample Description Alphanumeric Light Blue Enters the alpha, numeric or symbol character selected.
Using the Keyboard 20 Extended Character Select Medium Blue Changes the available characters to extended characters. Numeric Select Blue Changes the available characters to numeric characters. Alpha Select Blue Change s the available characters to alphabetic characters.
Using the Keyboard 21 Shift Key Medium Blue With alphabetic characters shown, shifts between upper and lower case characters. With extended characters shown, shifts between two character sets. Not functional when numeric or symbol characters are displayed.
Using the Keyboard 22 Date Entry The Magellan T riton uses a standard calendar di splay to enter dates fo r local information and waypoint data. Use the left and right arrows to ch ange months. W ith the desired month displayed, select the date to be entered.
Settings 23 Settings The Magellan T riton gives you the means to customize the re ceiver and view details about the Magellan T riton receiver . Customizing Navigation Settings 1. From the Map screen press MENU . 2. Select View . 3. Select Settings . 4.

Clearing Memory Use caution when clearing memory . This will delete waypoints and routes stored in the rece iver and cannot be undone.

Routes 39 Routes There are two types of route s that are commonly used in the Magellan T riton, Go T o route and Multileg route. A third type of route, Backtrack rout e, is also commonly used and is described in the chapter on T rails. A Go T o route is the simplest route possible.

Trails 45 Tr a i l s As you travel with the Magellan T riton on and computing your position, the Magellan T riton automatically drops electronic breadcrumbs to record your travels. These breadcrumbs are temporary waypoints that are created and sto red while you travel.
