6 FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION CA UTION: • Alwa ys be sure that the tool is switched off and unplugged bef ore adjusting or checking function on the tool. Adjusting depth of cut Depth of cut ma y be adjusted by simply turning the knob on the front of the tool.
7 • Handle the blades v er y carefully . Use glo ves or rags to protect your fingers or hands when remo ving or installing the blades. • Use only the Makita wrench provided to remo ve or install the blades . F ailure to do so may result in o ver tightening or insufficient tightening of the installation bolts.
8 5. Slip the heel of the adjusting plate into the groov e of the drum. 6. Set the drum cover o ver the adjusting plate/set plate and screw in the three he x flange head bolts so that a gap e xists between the drum and the set plate to slide the mini planer blade into position.
9 Place the blade on the gauge base so that the b lade edge is perf ectly flush with the inside edge of the gauge plate. Place the adjusting plate on the blade , then simply press in the heel of the adjusting plate flush with the back side of the gauge base and tighten two scre ws on the adjusting plate.
10 Nozzle assembly (optional accessor y) Use of the special nozzle assembly will minimiz e chip scat- ter , making f or a cleaner wor k area. The nozzle assembly ma y be attached after the chip cov er on the tool body is remov ed. When slipping on the assembly , fit the pin on it into the rear cov er hole.
11 OPERA TION Planing operation First, rest the tool front base flat upon the workpiece surface without the blades making an y contact. Switch on and wait until the blades attain full speed. Then mo ve the tool gently f orward. Apply pressure on the front of tool at the star t of planing, and at the back at the end of planing.
12 Y ou ma y wish to add to the length of the fence by attaching an e xtra piece of wood. Conv enient holes are provided in the f ence for this purpose, and also for attaching an e xtension guide (optional accessor y).
13 First, loosen the two wing nuts on the holder and insert the blades (A) and (B), so that the y contact the sides (C) and (D). Then tighten the wing nuts. Immerse the dressing stone in water f or 2 or 3 minutes bef ore shar pening. Hold the holder so that the blades both contact the dressing stone f or simultaneous shar pening at the same angle.
14 Use a screwdriv er to remove the brush holder caps. T ake out the worn carbon br ushes , inser t the new ones and secure the brush holder caps. T o maintain product SAFETY and RELIABILITY , repairs.
