3 Safety precautions IMPORT ANT INFORMA TION NOTICE This product has a High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamp that contains a small amount of mercury . It also contains lead in some com- ponents. Disposal of these materials may be regulated in your community due to envir on- mental considerations.
4 • All the safety and operating instructions should be read befor e the product is operated. • The safety and operating instructions should be retained for futur e refer ence. • All warnings on the product and in the operat- ing instructions should be adhered to.

9 A Indicator Please refer to ‘Indicators’ (Page 12) for details. B Air Inlets (2 in front and 1 at bottom surface) The air inlets absorb air to cool the interior of the unit. Do not block or allow warm air to blow into them. This may cause the unit to malfunction.
10 A Control Panel Cover Remove this cover when operating this unit or when replacing the lamp unit. • Unlock the cover , followed by sliding it down- wards to remove it. • Please refer to page 11 for details on the con- trol panel. Handling the Control Panel Cover • The gap between the body of the unit and the control panel cover is narrow .
11 A Rx/Tx Indicators This indicator lights up during communication with a remote contr ol system or computer connected to the serial port. Rx : Lights up when unit is receiving RS-232C data. Tx : Lights up when unit is sending RS-232C data. B MENU Button Press this button to display the menu.
12 A ST ANDBY Indicator Light on: Unit is in standby mode. Blinking: Unit is cooling down. B OPERA TE Indicator Light on: Illuminated when unit is currently operating (projecting).
13 Note: Cool Down Mode After projection, the hot lamp goes thr ough a 60-second cool-down process known as ‘cool down mode’. This mode is designed to prevent damage and deformation that heat from the heated lamp may cause to the internal com- ponents of the projector .
14 Remote Control The Meridian/Faroudja infra-r ed remote contr ol is used to operate both DILA projectors and digital video processors (DVP) made by Merid- ian.
15 F MENU Button Press this button to display the menu. Pr essing this button when the menu is displayed clears the menu. G EXIT Button (main label Bypass) Press this button to r eturn to the previous level up in an hierarchical menu (for example, to return from submenu to main menu).
16 Considerations for projector installation Please read the following car efully before in- stalling this unit. Installation Environment This unit is a precision device. Do not install it in the following places. Doing so may cause fire or malfunction of the unit.
17 Projector and Scr een Installation The optimum image can be obtained when the centre of the pr ojector’ s lens and the screen are placed perpendicular to each other . T ake note of the projection angle when placing both items. Failing to do so may give rise to trapezoidal distortion of the projected image.
18 Screen Size and Pr ojection Distance Adjust the distance from the lens to the scr een to achieve your desired scr een size. Y ou will need to have specified the Normal Throw (DILA1080MF1) or Short Thr ow (DILA1080MF1S) version of this projector when or dering.
19 Lens Shift Setting This unit comes with a Lens Shift feature that enables upward/downwar d adjustment of the projection scr een position. Adjust accordingly depending on the installation conditions. • The shift level is between 0 % and 60 %. The shift level is set to 50 % as the default.
20 Connecting to Devices Before connection, be sur e to turn off both the projector and the device to be connected. • Thoroughly r ead the manual that is supplied with the device to be connected. Connecting a Video Pr ocessor • A Meridian/Faroudja Digital Video pr ocessor is the ideal companion for your projector .
21 Connecting the Power Cable (Supplied) Before plugging in the power cable/cor d, en- sure that all devices have been connected. 1 2 P ower Cable (Supplied) 1 Connect the supplied power cable to the .
22 Basic Operation After installation, the projector will r equire initial set-up, adjustment, alignment and con- figuration (see next page). Once this has been done, the unit can be used simply by following these basic operational procedur es.
23 Adjustments and Settings Using Menus The menus displayed on the screen ar e used to perform adjustment and setting for this unit. Menu Structure The menus of this unit have the following structure. Characters on the scr een are displayed in Eng- lish only .

25 Menu Configuration 1 Image Adjust Menu Permits image adjustment Gamma Switches the gradation characteristics of the image. Select your prefer ence setting values according to the image to be viewed.
26 3 Options Menu Menu Display Adjusts the display duration of the menu screen. Setting V alues: 15sec, On Default V alue: 15sec • The menu screen display will not disappear au- tomatically when this is set to On. Instead, press the EXIT button to clear the menu screen.
27 The life of light-source lamps used for this unit is about 2000 hours. • The lamp life of 2000 hours is merely the aver - age life span of light-source lamps and we do not provide any guarantee for this figur e. The lamp life may not reach 2000 hours depend- ing on the operating conditions.
28 Lamp Replacement Procedur e 1 Remove the control panel cover • See page 10 for details on removing the contr ol panel cover . 2 Loosen the screw and r emove the lamp cover • Undo the retaining scr ew with a ‘+’ screwdriver . 3 Loosen the screws on the lamp unit and lift up the handle • Loosen the 2 screws with a ‘+’ scr ewdriver .
29 5 Slide in the new lamp unit until it is fully inserted Handling the new Lamp Unit Do not touch the glass surface of the lamp directly with your hand or stain it. T ouching it with a bare hand may dirty the surface, hence shortening the lamp life, causing marked performance deterioration, image darkening, lamp blowout and other problems.
30 Resetting Lamp Time After installing a new lamp unit, the lamp time must be reset befor e the projector can be used. Resetting the lamp time resets the inter - nal counter to zero hours. NOTE: if the previous lamp had accumulated over 2,000 hours of use, the projector will not operate until the lamp time has been reset.
31 4 Reinstall the inner filter • Check that the 2 clips at the left and right of the inner filter are locked to the body of the projector . CAUTION: • If you are using a detergent to clean the filter , we recommend wearing rubber gloves. • After cleaning the filter , do not reinstall it until it is perfectly dry .
32 W arning Indicators About warning indicators If a problem occurs in the unit during pr ojection, the warning mode will be triggered and the type of problem will be identified by a combination of indicators displayed on the top surface of the projector .

35 RS-232C External Control Control of this unit is possible via a computer , control system or other device by connecting the de- vice to the projector with a RS-232C cr oss cable (D-sub 9 pins). The commands to control this unit and the response data format against the r eceived commands are as follows.
36 Numeric value A 2-byte signed hexadecimal value is repr esented by a set of 4-digit (4-byte) characters. The range that can be specified is from 8000h to 7FFFh ON/OFF Shows the status (ON or OFF) of the unit, such as POWER and HIDE.
