Intro duction 1-1 Chapter 1: Introduc tion The Phantom sy stem from Minicom is a CAT5 based Distributed KVM Switching sy stem for serv er manag ement. Connect up to 64 com puters in the Phantom sy stem. The sy stem can be m anaged and controlled by 1 or 2 users.

OSD T echnol ogy 1 - 5 OSD T echnology The Phantom sy stem superim poses a menu on the Manag er position computer screen. This On- Screen-D isplay (OSD) consists of three sections. From the OSD, y ou activate v arious functions discussed in the Operating guide.
The OSD f unctions 2-1 Chapter 2: The OSD functions The Phantom sy stem is controlled and m onitored through an On- Screen-D isplay (OSD) on the Manager screen. When the Phantom Manag er is the UPM you can also use Minicom ’s Control software or equivalent software.
The hotkey functi ons 2-2 Selecting a Computer To select a computer: 1. Navigate to the desired com puter with the Up and Down A rro w keys . Or Type the computer num ber. I t will appear in the “SELECT COMPUTER” line. See Figure 2- 1. 2. Press Enter .
The OSD functions 2-3 Move Label - F1 Position the Confirmation label – Fig ure 2-2 abov e – anywhere on the screen. To position the label: 1. Navigate to the desired com puter using the Up and Down arrow k eys. 2. Press F1 . The selected screen im age and I dentification label will appear.
The hotkey functi ons 2-4 1. Navig ate to the first character in the sequence. 2. Press and hold the Spacebar down until y ou erase the sequence. Saving changes To save all editing chang es and return to the Select Com puter window: Press Esc .

The OSD f unctions 2-7 Scanning Computers – F4 You scan com puters from the Select Com puter window. To start scanning: Press F4 . During scanning a Confirmation label appears, showing which Remote com puter is presently displayed.
The OSD functions 2 -8 Skipping out unconnected or switched off computers - F6 When navigating through the list of computers, you can skip out the unconnected or switched off computers. You do this with Autoskip. By default, Autoskip is activated. To activate or deactivate Autoskip: In the Setup window (F3), press F6 .
Passw ord protect ing the OS D & Auto numbering 3-1 Chapter 3: Passw ord protectin g the OSD & A uto numbering The Managem ent OSD comes with an adv anced password security system that contains 3 different security levels. Each security level has different access righ ts to the system .
Enabli ng passw ord protection 3-2 Enabling passw ord protection By default, password protection is disabled. To enable password protection: 1. From the Manag ement OSD Select Com puter window press F7 . The Password box appears. See Figure 3-1. Figure 3-1 The Enter Password box 2.
Passw ord protect ing the OS D & Auto numbering 3-3 Setting up a passw ord The Administrator sets up passw ords for each User Profile in the Password window. See Figure 3- 3. He can also edit the names to g ive each Profile a m ore identifiable name.

Change the desired access lev el by pressing the Spacebar. 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for each User Profile and com puter.
Passw ord protect ing the OS D & Auto numbering 3-5 T imeout When password protection is activated y ou can automatically disable the Management k eyboard, m ouse and screen after a preset time of non- use. You set the Timeout period in the OUT colum n of the Setup window (F3).
Auto numbering – F1 2 3-6 A uto numbering – F12 Auto num bering giv es each Phantom Rem ote a sequential ID number. Auto num bering is done throug h the Managem ent OSD. For Auto numbering to work properly ALL connected com puters MUST be switched on To perform Auto num bering: 1.

Operating the Ph antom system w ith the Co ntrol software 4-3 Selecting a Com port During the Setup process y ou will be prom pted to choose a Com port. C hoose the Com port to w hich the RS232 Serial cable is connected. Failure to select the correct Com port will result in the software running in demo m ode.

The tool bar buttons 4-6 Logo and Passw ords You can edit the logo that appears at the top of the OSD window. You can also edit the nam es and passwords for the Administrator, Superv isor and 6 Users. 1. Edit the Logo and Passwords by choosing them from the Edit m enu.
Operating the Ph antom system w ith the Co ntrol software 4-7 Single computer settings To see all the settings of a single com puter righ t click on the com puter icon. The settings appear as in the figure below. Note! There is no Select box to check.
Passw ord protect ion 4-8 User (Statu s U) – Lowest There are 6 different Users in the Phantom sy stem. Each U ser has a Profile that defines the access level to different computers.
Renumbering t he Phantom Remotes 5-1 Chapter 5: Renu mbering the Phan tom Remotes When the Phantom system was first installed, ID numbers were assig ned with the auto- numbering process. Auto num bering giv es each Phantom Rem ote a sequential num ber according to its physical location in the daisy chain.

Renumbering t he Phantom Remotes 5-3 A uto numbering Auto num bering fills in any blank ID number boxes with the first av ailable free ID number. To perform Auto num bering: 1. In the toolbar, click Auto Number ing . All blank boxes are filled in. 2. Click Apply .
Rem ote wi th d ipswitches 5-4 Remote w ith dipsw itches When adding a Rem ote with dipswitches to the system , check that it does not hav e an ID num ber that is already in use. I f it does, then when performing the scan, a Configuration Error box appears.
