Introduction 34 Introduction This chapter provide s information on handling, se lecting, and storing media. Refer to the Maintenance Guide for media specifications. Media Handling Before purchasing a large quantity of special medi a, do a trial printing with the same media and check print quali ty .
Media Types 35 Media Types Plain Paper Letterhead and Memo Media Formatting Format data within your application. Input Upper and Optional Tr a y s 500 sheets of 20 lb bond (75 g/m²) paper (letter/ A4/legal) each; cap acity for other weights va ries accordingly .
Media Types 36 Thick Stock Ty p e Any standard or recycled office paper suitable for plain-paper laser printers, such as „ Hammermill Laser Print „ Georgia-Pacific Microprint Laser 1000 „ Neusie.
Media Types 37 Envelopes Labels Formatting Y our printer receives the instructions to print on envelopes from your application. „ Print on the fron t side only . Some pa rts of the envelope consist of three layers of paper—the front, back, and flap.
Media Types 38 Postcards Transparencies Notes „ Avoid using labels with exposed adhesive; it may stick to the transfer belt or the fuser roller , causing labels to peel off and media jams to occur . „ Adhesive label stock is supported only i n letter or A4 sheets.
Media Types 39 Input Location Upper and Optional T ra ys Multipurpose tray Capacity Up to 50 sheets, dependin g on the thickness of the transparencies If you have problems feeding 50 she ets, try load- ing only 5–10 sheets at a time. Loading a large number of transparencies at a time may cause static buildup, thus causing feeding prob lems .
Loading Media 40 Loading Media T ake off the top and bottom sheets of a ream of paper . Hold- ing a stack of approximately 250 sheets at a time, fan the stack to prevent static buildup fo r the paper before inserting it in a tray . 5 " Do not fan transparen cy media.
Loading Media 41 If you are printing duplex from the u pper or optional tray , load the media print- ing-side down with the top of the medi a (or letterhead or memo information) toward the right side of the tray .
Loading Media 42 3 Adjust the media guide s to fit the size pap er you’re loading. Squeeze the retainers, move the guides to the appropriate location (media sizes are listed on the tray), and release the retaine rs. The media should fit easi ly between the guides.
Loading Media 43 Make sure that the paper fits easily between the guides and the paper corners are under the left and right media-separating tabs and are not bent. Attention Always readjust the media gu ides after inserting the media. Improperly adjusted guides may cause poor print quality , media jams, or printer damage.
Loading Media 44 1 Open the mu ltipurpose tray on the right side of the printer . 2 Open the media support. Attention Load only one type/size of media per tray at a time.
Loading Media 45 Often, an arrow o n the pape r package label i ndicates the face-up (printing) side of the paper. A fill limit mark is provided on th e inside of the media guides on the multipurpose tray . The multi- purpose tray holds 150 sheets of 20 lb bond (75 g/m²) paper.
Media Storage 46 4 Place the envelope stack into the multipurpose tray with the flap-side up. Check your application docume ntation to determine if the flap shoul d be placed on the left or on the right. Print a single envelope to check the ori- entation before printing multiple copies.

Maintaining the Printer 48 Maintaining the Printer Handle the printer with care to preserve its life. Abuse may cause damage and void your warranty . If dust and paper scraps remain on the inside or out- side of the pr inter , printe r performance and print quality will suffer , so the printer should be cleaned periodically .
Maintaining the Printer 49 „ Do not put a cover o n the printer immediate ly after using it. Turn it off and wait until it cools down . „ Do not leave the printer ’s covers open for any length of ti me, especially in well-lit places; light may damage the OPC dru m cartridge.
Cleaning 50 Cleaning Y ou should pe rform a th orough cleaning every 30,000 si ngle-sided pages, every 12 months, or as needed, whichever comes earlier .
