Carefully read thr ough these rules for safe operation before hooking up the terminal. REMO TE CONTROLS 10 REMO TE CONTROLS A T 8400 The remote control r equires two alkaline AA batteries. A diagram inside the compartment of the remote control indicates proper battery placement. Replace as needed, when the indicator light becomes dim or no longer illuminates .

REMO TE CONTROLS 12 HOW T O IDENTIFY PROGRAMMED CODES 1. Press and hold the SELECT k ey and the appropriate mode key (A UX, VCR, TV or CBL) until the mode k ey blinks twice . 2. Enter carefully the code 990 . After each digit the mode k ey will blink once .

PROGRAMMING THE UR5-8400A REMO TE CONTROL THREE-DIGIT CODE PROGRAMMING METHOD T he remote control can be programmed by pressing in a three-digit code number that corresponds to particular manufacturers and brands of Audio/V ideo equipment. T he three-digit code numbers are listed in the code table of the instruction manual.

PROGRAMMING CHANNEL CONTROL By following the steps below , the user can program the channel controls (Channel Up , Channel Down and Last) from one device to operate in another device mode .

Notes: • T he best possible connection with the cables supplied is illustrated by the solid lines . T he dotted lines represent viable options , however . • Although the rear of the terminal depends on the model (sock ets in different positions), the connection is done in the same way .

ILLICO ON DEMAND 28 The features available while watching a movie on illico on Demand ar e the same as for a VCR. This means: 1. P ause 2. Resume watching 3. Rewind 4. F ast forward 5. Stop ORDERING A MOVIE 1. Put the VCR/VOD illico terminal button in the V OD mode.
INTERA CTIVE PROGRAM GUIDE Press the GUIDE button and the Interactive Progr am Guide (IPG) displays the list of upcoming programs for the next days . T hese progr ams can be sorted by channel , theme or title . HOW T O BROWSE BY CHANNEL 1. Press GUIDE ; the program you are watching is highlighted.
INTERA CTIVE PROGRAM GUIDE 30 HOW T O BROWSE BY TITLE 1. When the guide is on screen, press , choose Title , then press SELECT . 2. Press the , choose the first letter of the program in question and press SELECT . 3. Use the and arrows to move through the titles .

ADJUSTING THE V OLUME 32 A UDIO SIGNAL EMITTED BY Y OUR TERMINAL By adjusting the volume on your TV , you determine the loudness of the sound coming from your speak ers. With illico , however , the VOLUME feature adjusts the power of the audio signal coming from your terminal.
P A Y -PER-VIEW Indigo and Viewer’ s Choice feature uninterrupted films and special events that can be ordered at any time using the IPG . Charges for these progr ams will appear on your next month’ s bill. • Channel 300 is the preview channel for Indigo , and 350, that for Viewer’ s Choice .
PERSONAL VIDEO RECORDER 34 P A Y -PER-VIEW HOW T O CONTROL A LIVE PROGRAM Y OU ARE W A TCHING T he PVR stores the programming being broadcast on the channel you are watching in a memory buffer . T his lets you pause and rewind the action (even with a live broadcast), and resume watching the progr am in real time.
PERSONAL VIDEO RECORDER When you pr ess one of these keys , a status bar is momentarily displayed at the bottom of the screen to show you the progress of playback and broadcast of the program you are w atching. 35 PERSONAL VIDEO RECORDER Note: T he program stored in the memory buffer is erased as soon as you change channels or switch off the PVR.

ST ORAGE CAP ABILITIES Digital TV channels broadcast variable amounts of data, depending on the type of program being aired. F or instance , there may be times when a sports specialty channel broadcasts a larger quantity of data than channels whose lineups are primarily made up of tal k sh ows or soap o peras .
