M ore video memory prov ides more colours or higher resolutions (provided that your monitor can cope). If your computer h as 1 Mbyte of video memory, you can upgrade it to the maximum of 2 Mbytes.

Upgrading 7/12 APRICOT 340 OWNER’S HANDBOOK Upgrading the processor The ZIF (zero insert ion force) processor socket on t he moth erboard is designed to accept a variety of Intel Pentium processors wit h processor speeds from 75 to 166 megahertz (MHz).
Upgrading APRICOT 340 OWNER’S HANDBOOK 7/13 6. Carefully remove the clip from the heat sink. A lever attached to the socket secures the processor in place. 7. Lift the lever f rom the locked posit ion until it is upright (at right-angles to t he moth erboard).
Upgrading 7/14 APRICOT 340 OWNER’S HANDBOOK Instead, separate t he h eat sink from t he processor by tw isting th e heat sink back and fort h to loosen t he grip of t he th ermal bonding compound, then slide the heat sink off to one side of the processor.

A range of removable-media drives are available for this bay. Configuring the drive Drives purchased from an aut horized supplier should arrive pre- configured and ready for installat ion.

Open the drive bay door. The drive bay apert ure is initially obscured by a blanking plate attached t o the t op of th e metalwork.

Some drives may be supplied wit h additional screws or cables (some of which may not be required). 7. Place th e drive, upside down, on a suitable ant i-static surface, then place the drive tray over the drive.

Upgrading APRICOT 340 OWNER’S HANDBOOK 7/21 Adding a hard disk drive The computer’ s 3.5" h ard disk drive bay can accommodate one 1 .6" high, or t wo 1" h igh, hard disk driv es. Hard disk drives should always be connected to the primary ATA/IDE interface.

If one hard disk is already fit ted, unplug it s power and signal cables from the rear of the drive. 8. The h ard disk drive bay is secured by two screws and h eld by two lugs in t he base of th e system unit.
Upgrading APRICOT 340 OWNER’S HANDBOOK 7/23 11. Slide th e hard disk drive into t he bay from th e front, wit h the drive’s circuit board facing upwards and it s power and signal connectors away from you.
Upgrading 7/24 APRICOT 340 OWNER’S HANDBOOK The bay is correct ly positioned when t he diskette drive EJECT button protrudes t hrough t he front bezel and th e two screw holes in the bay line up with th ose in the base of t he system unit. 14. Replace the hard disk drive bay’s two securing screws.
