2 TABLE OF CONTENTS FINDING MODEL NUMBER This Operator’s Manual is an import ant part of your new lawn mower. It will help you asse mble, prepare and maintain the unit fo r best performance.
3 SECTION 1: IMPORTANT SAFE OPERATION PRACTICES WARNING: This symbol po ints out impo rtant safety instructions wh ich, if not followed, could endanger the persona l safety and/or property of yourself and others. Read and follow all instructions in this manual befor e attempting to operate this machin e.
4 Slope Operation Slopes are a major factor related to slip and fall accidents which can result in severe injury. Operati on on slopes requires extra caution. If you feel uneasy on a slope, do not mow it. For your safety, use the slope gauge included as part of this manual to measure slopes before operating this unit on a sloped or hill y area.
5 SECTION 2: SLOPE GAUGE Use this page as a guide to determine sl opes wh ere you may not operate sa fely. Do not operate your lawn mower on such slopes.
6 SECTION 3: ASSEMBLING YOUR LAWN MOWER Unpacking Loose P arts Once the carton is opened, you will find several loose parts lik e the wheels, handle s, and chute deflector. A hardware pack is also included in the carton. Make sure to remove all loos e parts before discarding the car ton.
7 Attaching Lower Handle 1. Lift the re ar of the deck and place it on a block secure ly. 2. Place the lower handle , with the pointed end face down, over the handle bra cket assemblies and position each handle bracket a ssembly stud into the bot tom hole in the lower handl e.
8 Attaching “Z” Fitting 3. Hold the cable end near t he left side of the upper handle and hook the “Z” end of the brake cable into the blade control handle from t he inside to outside.
9 SECTION 4: OPERATING YOUR LAWN MOWER Know your lawn mowe r Now that you have set up your lawn mower for operation, get acqu ainted with its controls and features. These are de scribed below and illustrated in Figure 11. This knowledge w ill allow you to use your new equi pment to its fullest potential.
10 Starting Engine 1. Push primer three times. Wait about two seconds between each push. In temp erature around 55 o F or below, prime f ive times. Do not prime to restart a warm engine. 2. Standing behin d the mower, squeeze the blade contro l handle against the u pper handle.
11 SECTION 5: MAKING ADJUSTMENTS Cutting Height Each wheel has a heigh t adjustment lever to change the cutt ing height of the mower. 1. Depress the lever towards the whee l and slide the lever assembly to desired position for a change in cuttin g height.
12 SECTION 6: MAINTAINING YOUR LAWN MOWER General Recommendations • Always observe saf ety rules when performing an y maintenance. • The warranty on this lawn mower does not cover items that have been subjected t o operator abuse or negligence. To receive full value from the warranty, oper ator must maintain the lawn mower as instru cted here.
13 Blade Care • Periodically inspect the bla de adapter for cracks, espe cially if you strike a fo reign object. Replace when necessary. Follow the steps below for blad e service. 1. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug. Turn mower on it s side making sure that the air filter and th e carburetor are up.
14 SECTION 7: TROUBLESHOOTING NOTE: Fo r repairs beyond the minor adjustments listed above, contact an authorized service dealer. Pr oblem Cause Re medy Engine fails to star t 1. Blade control handle disengaged. 2. Spark plug wire disconnected. 3. Fuel tank empty or stale fuel .
