10 4 Operating Y our Snow Thr o wer Now that you have set up your snow thrower for opera- tion, g et acquainted wit h its contr ols and features. Thes e are desc ribed bel ow and illustr ated in Figure 4- 1 . This knowled ge will all ow you to use your new equipment to its full est potential.

Alway s wear safety glasses while operating the snow th rower , or while per form ing an y adjust - ments or repairs on it.
12 Gas & Oil Fill-Up Ser vice t he engine wi th gasol ine and oil as in struc ted in the sep arate engine manua l packed with your unit . Read instru ction s carefully .
13 NOTE : Keep the key in a safe place. The engi ne cannot star t witho ut the igni tion key . Recoil Starter 1 . With en gine runni ng, pull star ter rope wi th a rapid, conti nuous full arm st roke three or four times. Pullin g the star ter rop e will produ ce a loud c lattering s ound, whic h is not harmful to eng ine.
14 Shift Cable If the full r ange of spe eds (for ward and reverse ) cannot be achi ev ed, refer to the fig ure to the lef t and adjust t he shif t cabl e as follows : 1 . Place the s hift lever in the f astest for ward spee d posit ion. 2. Loosen t he hex nut on the shi ft c able index brac ket.
15 5 2. With t he drive control re leased, th ere must be 1/ 8 ” cleara nce bet ween the fric tion whe el and the dr ive pulley in all p osition s of the shif t lever . 3. With t he drive control e ngaged, th e frict ion wheel mus t contac t the dri ve pulley .

18 Drive Belt Replacement T o remove and rep lace your snow thrower’s auger belt, proce ed as follows : 1 . Remove the plast ic belt c ov er on the front of t he engine by rem oving the t wo self-tapp ing screws. See Figure 6 - 4. 2. Drain th e gasoline fr om the snow thrower , or place a piec e of plastic u nder the g as cap.
19 7 Off-Season Storage Never st ore sno w throw er with fuel in tank indoors or in poorly v entilat ed areas, where fuel fumes ma y reach an open flame, spark or pilot l ight as on a furnace, w ater heater , clothes dryer or gas appliance. 15 5 Réglages Il est déconseillé d’ util iser la souffleuse sur une su rface r ecou- verte de gravier qu i, s’ i l est projeté par la tarière, peut causer des blessures corpo - relles et des dégats matériels.
