3 IMPORT ANT PRECAUTIONS W ARNING: T o reduce the risk of serious injury , read the following important precau- tions before using the exercise cycle. 1. Read all instructions in this manual before using the exercise cycle. Use the exercise cycle only as described.
4 Congratulations for selecting the new NordicT rack ® SL 720 exercise cycle. Cycling is one of the most effect ive exercises for increasing cardiovascular fit- ness, building endurance, and toning the entire body .
5 ASSEMBL Y Assembly requires two persons. Place all parts of the exercise cycle in a cleared area and remove the packing materials. Do not dispose of the packing materials until assembly is completed. Assembly requires the included tools and your own adjustable wrench .
6 2. While another person lifts the rear of the Frame (1), attach the Rear Stabilizer (16) to the Frame with four M8 x 40mm Button Screws (54) and four M8 Split W ashers (55). 3 2 1 78 88 88 43 3 3. Have another person hold the Upright (2) in the posi- tion shown.
7 6. Pull the Seat Knob (10) and slide the Seat Carriage (1 1) toward the rear of the Seat Rail (5). Have another person hold the Seat Frame (7) near the Seat Carriage (1 1). L ocate the two pulse wires extend- ing from the Seat Frame. Connect each pulse wire to the pulse wire of the same color in the Seat Carriage.
8 9. Make sure that all parts are properly tightened before you use the exercise cycle. Note: After assembly is completed, some extra parts may be left over . Place a mat beneath the exercise cycle to protect the flo or . 8. Identify the Left Pedal (22), which is marked with an “L.
9 INST ALLING THE RECEIVER FOR THE OPTIONAL CHEST PULSE SENSOR If you purchase the optional chest pulse sensor (see page 21), follow the steps below to install the receiver inclu ded with the chest pulse sensor . Remove the access door from the underside of the Console (4).
10 HOW T O OPERA TE THE EXERCISE CYCLE HOW TO MOVE AND LEVEL THE EXERCISE CYCLE Stand in back of the exercise cycle, and lift the exer- cise cycle until it can be moved on the front wheels. Move the exercise cycle to the desired location and carefully lower it.
1 1 FEA TURES OF THE CONSOLE The advanced console offers a selection of features designed to make your workouts more enjoyable and effective. When the manual mode of the console is selected, the resistance of the exercise cycle can be changed with a touch of a button.
12 HOW T O USE THE MANUAL MODE Begin pedaling to activate the console. The exercise cycle requires no batteries or external power source. Power is supplied by a generator as you pedal. T o activate the con- sole, begin pedaling at a speed of about 3 miles per hour or faster .
13 Note: The console can display speed and distance in either miles or kilo- meters. T o find which unit of mea- surement is select- ed, you must select the console’s user mode.
14 HOW TO USE RESIST ANCE AND P ACE PROGRAMS Begin pedaling to activate the console. See step 1 on page 12. Select one of the six resistance and pace programs.
15 Monitor your progress with the two displays. See step 4 on page 12. Measure your heart rate if desired. See step 5 on page 13. T urn on the fan if desired. See step 6 on page 13. When the program is finished, the console will automatically turn off.
16 Hold the handgrip pulse sensor . T o use a heart rate program, you must use the handgrip pulse sensor (see step 5 on page 13) or the optional chest pulse sensor . If you use the handgrip pulse sensor , it is not necessary to hold the handgrips continuously during the program.
17 HOW TO CONNECT YOUR CD PLA YER, VCR, OR COMPUTER T o use iFIT .com CDs , the exercise cycle must be con - nected to your portable CD player , portable stereo, home stereo, or computer with CD player . See pages 17 and 18 for connecting instructions.
18 HOW TO CONNECT YOUR HOME STEREO Note: If your stereo has an unused LINE OUT jack, see instruction A below . If the LINE OUT jack is being used, see instruction B. A. Plug one end of the audio cable into the jack beneath the console. Plug the other end of the cable into the adapter .
19 HOW TO CONNECT YOUR VCR Note: If your VCR has an unused AUDIO OUT jack, see instruction A below . If the AUDIO OUT jack is being used, see instruction B. If you have a TV with a built-in VCR, see instruction B. If your VCR is connected to your home stereo, see HOW TO CONNECT YOUR HOME STEREO on page 18.
20 T o use iFIT .com CDs or videocassettes, the exercise cycle must be connected to your portable CD player , porta ble stereo, home stereo, computer with CD play- er , or VCR. See HOW T O CONNECT YOUR CD PLA YER, VCR, OR COMPUTER o n page 17. T o pur- chase iFIT .
21 HOW TO USE PROGRAMS DIRECTL Y FROM OUR WEB SITE Our Web site at www .iFIT .com allows you to play iFIT .com audio and video programs directly from the internet. T o use programs from our Web site, the exer- cise cycle must be connected to your home computer .
22 Inspect and properly tighten all parts of the exercise cycle regularly . T o clean the exercise cycle, use a soft, damp cloth. Keep liquids away from the console and keep the console out of direct sunlight. HOW TO ADJUST THE REED SWITCH If the console does not display correct feedback, the reed switch should be adjusted.
23 The following guidelines will help you to plan your exercise program. Remember that proper nutrition and adequate rest are essential for successful results. EXERCISE INTENSITY Whether your goal is to burn fat or to strengthen your cardiovascular system, the key to achieving the desired results is to exercise with the proper intensity .
24 SUGGESTED STRETCHES The correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right. Move slowly as you stretch—never bounce. 1. T oe T ouch Stretch Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips. Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible.
