Printing from Windows – PCL > 17 C OLOUR MATCHING F ACTORS THAT AFFECT COLOUR PRINTING There are many factors that affe ct colo ur printing. Some of the most important factors are: > the differences betw een the range of colo urs a monitor can reproduce versus the range of colours that a printer can reproduce (See page 17 ).
Printing from Windows – PCL > 18 Software se ttings Many software applications have their own colour settings. The application settings may override t he settin gs in the printer driver. Please refer to the documentation for your software application for details on that p articular program’s colour management functions.
Printing from Windows – PCL > 19 H OW TO PERFORM COLOUR MATCHING There are several ways to achieve colour matchi ng with your printer. The range of options available varies according to your computer platform, operating system, colour produc tion method, and printe r driver type.
Printing from Windows – PCL > 20 Render ing intents - PCL5 c driver only When a document is printed, a conversion takes place from the document's colour space to the printer colour space. The rendering intents are esse ntiall y a set of rules that determine how this colour co nversion takes place.

Raising the print resolution can maximise the image quality of a print job. You usually do this for final versions of d ocuments or when printing images (p hotographs).

Printing from Windows – PCL > 32 F ONT S UBSTITUTION This advanced feature allows you t o substitute printer f onts for TrueType fonts. This may be useful if you have a document formatted with a font that is not installed on your system, but the font is buil t in to the printer.
Printing from Windows – PCL > 33 S ECURE PRINTING Secure printing allows you to print confident ial documents on printers that are shared wi th other users in a network environment. The document does not print until a PIN (perso nal identif ication numb er) is entered through the printer control panel.

Print options – PostScript > 59 Creep Adjustment Off /Normal/Th ick Creep occurs when booklets have a large number of pages or are printed on heavy media. Use this option to adjust images that may shift from the center of the shee t in booklets. Select Norm al when you use normal media paper for your print job.
Print options – PostScript > 60 Image Smoothing Off /On Select On (tick che ckbox) to minimize gr ainy output when printing low-resolu tion images. When y ou select On, Image Smoothing is enforced on all images. If you create an EPS file in Photoshop, the sett ings specified fr om Photoshop take effect.
Print options – PostScript > 61 Mirror Off /On Specify On (tick checkbox) to print the mirror image of the job, from right to left. This option is available only from Windows printer driver s. Mixed Media User defined Click Define to specify the media types used for specific pages, or range(s) of pages, and to assign chapter-based finishing.

Print options – PostScript > 63 Pure Black T ext/Graphics Printer’s default/ Pure Black/ Rich Black/Normal Select Normal to print black text and graphics as a f our- color black using C, M, Y , and K toner , and to use normal PostScript renderi ng.
Print options – PostScript > 64 Spot Color Matching Printer’s default /Off/On Select Off to print spec ified PANT ONE colours in your job using the current CMYK Simulation and CMYK Simulation Meth od. Select On to activate the PANT ONE Lookup T able.
