En- 11 Bef o re Using the CD Receiver Y ou can improv e the sound quality by attaching the included floor pads to raise the speakers off the surface and reduce the contact are a. The floor pads also make the speakers stable and pre vent them from slipping.
En- 12 Disc (A udio CD and MP3) and USB Flash Drive (MP3) Notes Precautions f or Pla yback Compact discs (CDs) with the following logo on the label surface can be used. Do not use discs designed for purposes other than audio, such as CD-R OMs for PC use.

The disc could get stuck in the CD receiv er, or could damage the CD receiv er.
En- 14 Connecting FM Antenna This section explains ho w to connect the supplied indoor FM antenna. The CD recei ver won’ t pick up an y radio signals if no antenna is connected, so you must connect the antenna to use the tuner .
En- 15 Connecting Other Components About Connections • Before making any connect ions, read the manuals supplied with your other components. • Don’t connect the po wer cord until you’ ve completed and double-checked all connections. Connection Color Coding RCA-type audio connections are usually color-coded: red and white.
En- 16 Connecting Other Components —Conti nued Connect the CD recei ver’ s power cord to a suitable wall outlet. Notes: • Do not use any cord other than the included power cord. Do not connect the included po wer cord to any other de vice. Doing so may cause malfunctions or accidents.
En- 17 Basic Operation Press the [ ON/ST ANDBY] button. Alternati vely , press the remote controller’ s [ ] button. The CD receiv er comes on, and the display lights up. If an iPod/iPhone is connected to the CD recei ver, the “Connecting” message wi ll be sho wn and the iPod/iPhone will be char ged.
En- 18 Basic Op eration —Continued Press the [B ASS] or [TREBLE] button, and then use the [ ]/[ ] buttons to adjust the bass or treble, respectively . The default setting is “0. ” Y ou can adjust the bass and treble from –5 to +5. While adjusting the bass or treble, you can press the [CLEAR] butt on to return the setting to “0”.
En- 19 Pla ying CDs 1 Press the [ ] button to open the disc tra y . Tip: • Pressing the [ ] button while the CD receiv er is on Standby will turn on the CD recei ver and open the disc tray . 2 Place the CD on the tray with the label-side facing up.
En- 20 Playing CDs —Con tinued During playback or while playback is paused, press the remote controller’ s [D ISPLA Y] button repeatedly to display the follow ing CD information.
En- 21 Playing CDs —Continu ed The files on an MP3 CD can be located at the disc’ s root lev e l or within a folder . A folder can contain additi onal folders, with other folders inside them in a hierarc hical structure as sho wn in the follo wing illustration.
En- 22 Playing CDs —Con tinued Y o u can display v arious info rmation about the MP3 file currently playing, su ch as title, art ist, and album. During playback, pre ss the [DISPLA Y] button repeatedly to display the f ollowing MP3 information. The information is show n in the following order .
En- 23 Playing CDs —Continu ed W ith repeat playback, you can play an entire CD repeatedly or play one track repeatedly . Repeat playback can also be used in conjunction with random playback. Press the [REPEA T] button repeatedly until the REPEA T or REPEA T 1 indicator appears.
En- 24 Pla ying Y our iP od/iPhone • Before using your iPod/iPhone with the CD recei ver, be sure to update your iP od/iPhone with the latest software, a vailable from the Ap ple W eb site. • If you leav e your iPod/iPhone paused when using it on its ow n, ev entually it will go into hibernation.
En- 25 Playing Y our iP od/iPhone —Continu ed Note: • Operation using the remote controller is e xplained below . 1 Press the [MENU] button to display the iPod menu. 2 Use the Up/Down [ ]/[ ]/[ ]/[ ] butto ns to select an item on the menu, and then press the [ENTER] button.
En- 26 Listening to the Radio When tuned to a station, the T uned ( ) indicator appears. When receiving a stereo FM signal, the FM ST indicator appears as well. The [MODE] b utton is used to select Auto mode or Mono mode. In Auto mode, the output will be stereo or mono depending on the stati on being recei ved.
En- 27 Listening to the Radio —Continued W ith the Preset Write function, you can manually preset individual FM radio stations. Presets make it easy to select your fa vorite stations and eliminate the need to tune the radio manually each time you want to change stations.
En- 28 Listening to the Radio —Continued Press the [DISPLA Y] button repeatedl y to display the f ollowing RDS inf ormation. RDS can be vie wed on this unit only in areas where RDS broadcasts are av ailable. What is RDS? RDS stands for Radio Data Sy stem and is a method of transmitting data in FM radi o signals.
En- 29 Pla ying a USB Flash Drive 1 Disconnect the iP od/iPh one from the iP od dock. A USB flash driv e cannot be used if an iPod/ iPhone is inserted. 2 Press the [iP od] butto n, or the [I NPUT] button on the top panel, repeatedly to select “iP od/USB”.
En- 30 Setting the Cloc k 1 Press the [TIMER] button repeatedly until “Clock” appear s. 2 Press [ENTER]. 3 Use the arrow [ ]/[ ] buttons to enter the current hour . When the CD rec eiv er is shipped from th e factory , the time disp lay format is set to 24-hour time.
En- 31 Using the Timer The CD receiv er has a programmable timer for automated playback, and a sl eep timer for turning the CD receiv er off after a specif ied period. Y ou can also use the alarm playback function of your iPod/iPhone to initiate time r playback on the CD receiv er.
En- 32 Using the Timer —Continued Tip s: • If you decide to cancel dur ing this procedure without making timer settings, pr ess the [TIMER] button. • By pressing the [DISPLA Y ] b utton when specifying the time, you can switch between 12-hour and 24-hour displays.
En- 33 Using the Timer —Continued When the alarm play function of the iPod/iPhone connected to the CD receiv er starts playing a song, the CD receiv er will power -on and switch to the iPod input. 1 On your iP od /iPhone, make settings for its alarm play functi on.
En- 34 T r oubleshooting If you hav e any trouble using the CD receiver, loo k for a solution in this section. Can’t turn on the CD receiver. • Make sure that the power cord is properl y plugged into the wall outlet (see page 16). • Make sure that the po wer cord is properly plugged into the CD recei ver’ s AC INLET (see page 16).
En- 35 T roub leshooting —Continued The disc will not play . • Make sure the disc has been lo aded co rrectly , with the label-side facing up. • Check to see if the surfac e of the disc is dirt y (see page 12). • If condensation is suspected, turn on the CD recei ver and lea ve it for 2 to 3 hours before playing any discs.
En- 36 T roub leshooting —Continued Can’t access the music files on a USB flash drive . • Make sure that an iPod/iPhone is not connected to the iPod dock. If an iPod/iP hone is connected, di sconnect it (see page 29). • The CD receiv er supports US B flash dri ves only .
En- 37 T roub leshooting —Continued No sound is heard from your turntable. • Make sure the turntable has a b uilt- in phono equalizer . If the turntable does n’t ha ve a phono equalizer built-in, you must provide one. The timer doesn’t work. • Make sure the clock has been set correctly (see page 30).
